I'm passing on Monster Hunter for Conduit. Sim Earth was fun, I might get that and try giving it a go again - enjoyed it on SNES.

I would like to say that I hope Conduit does well, but I really don't care - I'm sure I'll like it. I bought Manhunt 2 and RE:UC supporting mature games and what do I have to show for it? Shit. That's why I passed on NMH and MW, the gameplay wasn't up my alley, The Conduit is.

I picked up NPC DK JB today for the wife since there were no Conduits to be found in the wild to break street date.

It sounds like you choose the wrong 2 to support and didnt pick up the better 2. I played manhunt on the PS2 and it was shit. RE was ok but it was like anyother onrails light shooter. madworld was awesome but no real replay value altho i do like playing mangolf with my brother.

the conduit has online play so im sure i will spend hours and hours online even after iv beat the game a few times. thats what made it a day one purchase for me

Ehh, i know you're just trolling, but there is an outside possibility that the game will fizzle at launch and never find it's legs, but that will happen because of the game's choice of being Online Multiplayer only, excluding local and LAN

Word of mouth and local multiplayer have saved many a Wii game from sales hell, and gone on to make them unprecedented successes. The Conduit won't have that luxury

Here's my issue with the conduit. Nothing in the game seems original, and it's biggest claim to fame is that it is the "best looking game on the wii." From what I've seen, it does look decent graphically (bad screenshot above)...for the wii. This is not Crysis. You can't market a game based on graphics, unless they're extraordinary to the whole video gaming front as opposed to just one console. Crysis marketed itself on its graphics, not gameplay (which was cool, but nothing spectacular, and incredibly frustrating at parts) but still received recognition because Crysis is, two years later, still the most gorgeous game I've ever played, across all consoles. Gears of War looks graphically better than the Conduit. Far Cry 2 looks better than the Conduit. Even Halo 3 looks better than the conduit. The fact that it's decent to good graphics are being hyped to the point where it is the next crysis simply because it is on the Wii is absolutely absurd.

Most FPS games aren't original, in particular the sequels, like WaW2.

Yet, people still buy and play them, just like people buy Madden year in and year out. So, get a new, original complaint.

So, wait, you're going to hold off buying a Wii game that looks potentially interesting because you haven't bought/played any Wii games in a while? How does that make any sense? Are you doing it so you can artificially maintain your "downtime" to show off on Nintendo-hater circle jerks?

Sounds kinda like those kids who sell their Wii each time they finished a game, and re-buy it when there's a new game they want to play, just so they can tell people on the internet how they sold their Wii.

Same with me. That FNR4 demo was just plain awful. How that game (or the demo) turned out so bad is beyond me. I think the formula is just getting old and they need to do a reboot from scratch under a different branding. The FNR# series just doesn't do it for me anymore. I would rather play UFC Undisputed or Punch Out!!.

It's kind of the same thing with the Madden franchise for me. It's gotten so stale and old I'm not interested in it at all anymore. Backbreaker is the type of football game Madden should be ... if you haven't heard of it then check this trailer from E3:
http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/958004/backbreaker/videos/backbreaker_trl_football_60909.html;jsessionid=23s2ts5i4ae46

It just proves to me some companies are still being original in stale genres even without a liscenced product. Pretty much all of the EA Sports franchises other than hockey & golf need a total reboot.

I was never interested in The Conduit (most FPS games bore me), but even so, I hope it succeeds. The Wii needs all the decent third-party titles it can get right now. If The Conduit (and consequently, the Quantum3 engine) succeeds, it could lead to more third-party companies taking the Wii more seriously.

That's so sad...why's everybody already predicting the failure of the Conduit? Just a dumb idea to begin with?

I was watching one of those developer diaries a few months ago, and the company's goal was to achieve next-gen graphic effects without having the benefit of 360 or ps3 hardware. A lofty goal, but nonetheless one directed towards a niche market of gamers who only own a wii but want to get in on some FPS action. It's not meant to trump COD4, GOW, or any other ones on currently on the market obviously.

Conduit and PangYa for me. Might consider Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Never played Monster Hunter before, but I've heard a lot of people talk about it, and this seems to be the "ultimate" version of it for PSP.

monster hunter freedom 2 was excellent, one of my favorite games on PSP. i've played the jap version of unite with the english patch, and it's definitely worth it. it gets really hard later on, and a lot of times, you'll be doing the same mission over and over and over again. but there are rarely if ever cheap deaths in the game. if you ever die, it's almost always your fault. the monsters themselves all act differently and if you don't learn their habits, you won't win against them. but outside of the actual hunting, there's a surprising amount of stuff to do. it's probably one of the longest lasting games on PSP.

Since when did PunchOut get deemed a failure? It's NPD numbers last month did come from a PARTIAL month, you know. And it reached the #8 spot in that shortened time.

Anecdotal evidence to the contrary - was in a local Target this weekend. Saw 5 different customers with the game + packed in nunchuck in their shopping carts (2 customers also buying Wiis at the same time). Let's see where PunchOut lies in terms of sales in the next month or 2 before we toss "failure" around as a descriptor.

Nothing for me this week.

Once upon a time I was going to buy The Conduit but after seeing some game play videos and hands-on impressions of it, I'll have to see the reviews first. Even then I probably won't get it.

The good news about the summer drought is that I can finally get to playing my back log of games.

First up: Blue Dragon and Mass Effect.

Though I am still enjoying my way through Punch-Out!! and inFamous.

FNR4 for me. Can't really understand why people are killing the demo. Personally, I thought it played very much like boxing (not watching, actually doing).

UFC was a bunch of animations strung together with button pushes. Completely lacked any flow.

To each his own. But, I'm very active in martial arts and we spar all the time and I thought Fight Night Round 4 lacked necessary movement. It felt robotic IMO. The reason I like the UFC Undisputed game is because of the complexities of the control mechanisms. You really have to be good at all aspects in that game to compete at a high level. There are certainly some things that should be fixed in the iteration or with a patch but all things considered I thought the game came out marvelous.

FNR4 just felt like rock em sock em robots in comparison. I would love it if the UFC Undisputed engine were used to make a boxing game ... that would be epic. I'm not one of those MMA guys that hates boxing as I grew up on boxing. I love both sports with a passion of something fierce and watch all of the fights from the different organizations and sanctioning bodies. But, IMO as a game FNR4 felt archaic compared to UFC Undisputed. Just one mans opinion.

As for the other comment about animations strung together ... Thats all every game is. A bunch of animation strung together with invisible hit boxes and collision detection. I'm not really shitting on the entire package of FNR4 but IMo the demo was extremely underwhelming. It could have been a bad demo but I have the feeling it's more to do with the game itself.

I think the demo was actually probably a bit of a bad demo. Once you whack the difficulty up (the demo was on easy) I think the movement will play a huge role in the game and it'll no longer be a slugfest. However, I might be eating my words by the end of the day :)

Good reply though. Its not often you get sensible replies back to a comment so I thank you for that :)

I wasn't even talking about how uninspired characters look like humans. That doesn't bother me as long as it's well animated. The problem I have is how everyone seems to forget that the "tall, slender alienoid with goat legs and colors so well coordinated you'd think Martha Stewart did it" look is overused. The only game I can now (opinion) accept that has these characters is Metroid Prime, since you'd imagine that's what space pirates looked like since forever.
