Rumored PlayStation Cloud details are fake, though we wish they weren't

It's almost three months since we first spotted the PS Cloud trademark and some fake details have been "leaked out." Allegedly, PlayStation Cloud is like MobileMe for the PSN. A cloud-based system which will hold all your contacts, save files, stats and in-game videos and screenshots online, so they can be accessed from any PS3.
Not only that, but these leaked details -- along with the screenshot above -- imply that the service would substantially improve the PSN's community features, showing peoples activity in realtime. As welcome as these features would be (very!), we've received feedback from the PlayStation Blog's Jeff Rubenstein. "This 'mockup' is pure conjecture. This is 100% fake."
We're glad to see Sony quashing rumors before they get out of hand. As for the fact this PlayStation Cloud info is fake? We could be happier.

It would be cool if this could be done on the PSP2 as well. Sony with the PSP2, please make all PSP2 games have trophy support.
DaveMcRae the Haiku Artist @ Jun 22nd 2009 6:58PM
The first challenge would be to make the PSP 2 unhackable.

I'm disappointed.
When I earn a trophy, I want Facebook to update my profile that says, "User achieved x trophy!" in real-time status.
Sly @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:31PM
i don't. my gaming and social lives HAVE TO stay apart except playing COD online multiplayer or rock band local with friends...
Ashitaka @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:35PM
Yeah, so all your cool friends can see how cool you are
ChiTownRuler23 @ Jun 23rd 2009 12:29AM
WORLDS ARE COLLIDING!!
Longhorn of Myon [PSN: MariusElijah] @ Jun 22nd 2009 6:51PM
Well the mockup might be fake but not the service...
I still want this
Doghunt00 @ Jun 23rd 2009 11:08AM
indeed this looks sweet
Jack_Jackington @ Jun 22nd 2009 6:54PM
They can still make it that way, right? Sony can copy, right?!?!
8-bit.artist @ Jun 22nd 2009 6:55PM
fake eh? just like the ps3 slim. ;)
Longhorn of Myon [PSN: MariusElijah] @ Jun 22nd 2009 6:58PM

Something like this is the only way old fuddy duddies like me are going to go with the digital download everything system.
See, younger kids are used to things coming and going, but I actually like to keep everything I pay for. If something happens, I don't want to repay a buck a song for all the music I used to already own. If something happens to my PS3, I dont want to pay for all my games to come back again.
People like me want some kind of online system that acknowledges all our non-physical purchases, so if something happens we can download everything again. Hell, nothing has to actually happen, if we want to clear some space on our hard drive for a new movie, we want to be able to watch that old movie again in the future without having to pay for it. Right now people are fine with just losing that stuff forever, but soon there will be a reckoning and something like this will have to exist.
Old_Snake @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:07PM
I'm not sure what you're trying to reference here, but I think everyone would rather not repay for what they already own. I also don't think you just lose the content you download over PSN. I'm not sure on movies, but with games and content your PSN keeps account of everything you download and you can redownload anything on your list that for free
MystileArmor @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:03PM
Now I know why you picked the Lion as an avatar....
Old_Snake @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:05PM
I don't really care about the displaying stuff in real time thing, but the back-up feature would be fantastic
deanb @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:21PM
I just back up mine to a pen drive every couple of weeks, only takes a few minutes, nice piece of mind in case something goes tits up.
jobknockey @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:10PM
*User* is watching porn on the web Browser.
No thanks.
Fuze9 @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:18PM
Seriously, this feature is worth pursuing. The technology is ready to go, you just have to be willing to commit the server space. I think we'd all prefer innovations like this as opposed to Home.
MaliceMajorE15 @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:20PM
should have known it was too good to be true when PixelJunk Eden was spaced out into separate words
Ashitaka @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:37PM
Good eye
BigFat @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:21PM
Does it have to do with narnia.
AvA (ice~) @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:23PM
Love how you're acting all nice sprinkles, then flat out call him a jerk. cool.
Spino Prime @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:24PM
This looks awesome. I hope it isnt just a fake and this is the real deal (I think sony said that the trophy and psp go images were fake but they turned out to be true) because this would be an awesome new feature.
deanb @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:25PM
This seems more similar to Steams Community page, that list's what achievements folks have got, when they've got a new game, as well as the standard who's online and not. Steam Cloud also allows for backing up your config to Steams servers, though not sure about save files, though that would be great, but for now it's easy enough to carry them on a thumb stick.
Sony already have made vague whispers of PS Cloud, so I would guess this feature is proably coming, as pointed out above most Sony rumours tend to be true. and if it does it will be a welcome addition to the many new features of the PSN.
BryanVP @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:27PM
Sony debunked the new PSP rumors so you never know this can be the real deal!
BigFat @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:27PM
Didnt MS have something similar to this called on live or something. where you could check your friends from every where.
el serpiente @ Jun 22nd 2009 8:21PM
Yeah, and people were dumb enough to actually pay for it. LULZ!
Jeff... @ Jun 23rd 2009 6:44AM
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh shit, NO HE DIDN'T NO HE DIDN'T
linebeginstoblur @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:30PM
Watching a video is not noteworthy. And if this were real, there'd be no space in PixelJunk. Other than that, this sounds like a much-needed feature to PSN.
Vidikron @ Jun 22nd 2009 8:26PM
Well, you're right about PixelJunk, but Live tells you if people are watching videos, Netflix, or using Media Center. So noting that a friend was watching a video wouldn't be all that odd for those of us with 360's.
linebeginstoblur @ Jun 22nd 2009 8:27PM
So if I downloaded a trailer and felt like watching it, everyone knows? Now, if it's a movie bought off the PlayStation Store, by all means, I'd love to hear that and which movie, but the mental picture I had is that you notify people about every minute-long video you see.
dagamer43 @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:30PM
I would love a syncing system such that your save file is stored in the cloud so that when you want to play a game at someone's house, you don't have to start from the beginning.
Then again, Microsoft would still love you sell your those expensive pieces of shit they call memory cards.
Extinction @ Jun 22nd 2009 8:26PM
Copy to a USB drive or flash card
dagamer43 @ Jun 22nd 2009 8:27PM
You can do that? O_O
Kdiggy @ Jun 22nd 2009 10:19PM
lol just pull up your save file and hit "triangle"... insert USB into the USB drive and go to "copy"... you'll then be prompted to confirm the USB drive is the save location.
I'm doing this off of the top of my head, so it may not be exact, but you'll get it.
Night Elve @ Jun 23rd 2009 10:18AM
@Kdiggy
You certainly can do that on PS3, but I think he was referring to the 360.
Hyams @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:30PM
It's Aslan, isn't it? Haven't watched the two (new) Narnia films so I can't say for sure, but that'd be my guess.
Spartan @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:33PM
Slighty off topic:
Can I log into my LIVE account on someone else's 360?
Also if I have a friend over and they have LIVE as well can they sign in at the same time I do on the same console?
Thanx.

Hyams @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:40PM
Yes, and yes.
Knight Marquise @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:43PM
Yes. All you do is "recover gamertag" on that hard drive.
Spartan @ Jun 23rd 2009 10:53AM
thanx guys.
MystileArmor @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:34PM
You thought he was gone and that was the end of it, but no.. he had to come back. Although in your case, you should stay gone.
BigFat @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:34PM
yeah i assumed it to be Asland too. i though MystileArmor was referring to how no matter what Asland always shows up and he cant be killed (read the books)
Hyams @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:35PM
Oh, crap, the nostalgia just hit. Might have to go buy the books now.
Lavat @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:40PM
I knew this guy who usually would run across the street when it had incoming traffic...I never quite knew why he did it...But I think he once told that he 'just needed to get out sometimes'. I told him that it was not very healthy for him...
MystileArmor @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:39PM
Yeah BigFat, that's exactly what I meant.
Hyams @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:42PM
Don't care if it has nothing to do with Narnia. Think I'm gonna buy the books now anyway.
