If you plan on renewing next year, just buy it anyway if it's a good enough deal. That way you don't have to pay next year.

A US Gold Subscription should work in Canada.

Thanks for the heads up. I have been waiting for the price to drop again. Just snagged one, after buying the month free from MS...now need to wait and cancel with them over the phone. Wish it was the old 12+1 cards for a full 13 months, but Ill take 12 at $27.99!

If I buy the card before auto-renew comes up, will they try to charge another $50 anyway or wait until the subscription is about to run out?

They will definitely opt for the auto-renew, and I think the only way to stop it is to call Microsoft and get them to turn off the auto-renew function.

If you enter a 12 month code before your gold membership ends you will NOT be charged. Microsoft only auto-bills your credit card if your gold membership ends.

Also, if I am not mistaken, once you insert a 12 month code I think the auto-renewal goes away for good. I am not 100% sure on that, but I think I am correct.

You can enter in any subscription code at anytime to your account. Remember though you can only have up to 3 years worth of XBOX Live on your account at any one time. My Live is good through April 9, 2012, so as of right now the most I could add to my account would be about two months. On July 9th, I could add 3 months to it if I wanted to which would bring it to the 3 year max limit of time pre-paid in advance.

As I understand it, a US Live Gold Subscription code will work on a Canadian console. The confusing part is that US Live MS Points codes will NOT work on a Canadian account.

The buy.com deal is over. I think that just happened to be a day before the eBay deal by coincidence. I hope the eBay deal is as good or better because I wasn't able to buy one.

Not sure why this was reported as a "deal for tomorrow" when in fact the deal was today (Monday) and was dead by about 12pm pacific time. When I checked, at about 9:45am pacific time, they had 1,002 of them left available. Within about 15 minutes that number dropped to only 639 available. The limit was 5 per person, at $27.99 shipped free each. If you are signed up to Microsoft's new "Bing" service (formerly Microsoft Live Cash Back), you could get an extra 8% off, so about $2.50 off each. By noon, they were all gone. But I am sure it will be back in some form or another within a few months. The seller was Buy.com but on eBay they have to go by the name "Buy".

Also you can have up to 3 years already on your XBOX Live account pre-paid. For example IF you happen to be a new user, you could put in a total of 3 years worth of subscription cards and won't have to worry about renewing until the 3 years were up.
