Oh wow, Nathan Drake has really let himself go since the original Uncharted. What's that? Oh, sorry, this is actually Max Payne 3. So anyway, Rockstar has loosed the first screens of the latest game in its gritty, film noir inspired action series. Bruce Willis Max obviously got wrong directions from Google Maps and has ended up in Uncharted 2-- or is it Resident Evil 5? No, it really is the next Max Payne. Can't say it's really the look we were expecting. How about you?
We're not "black" over here in Brazil. We're "brown". Also, we're probably drug dealers in MP3 as opposed to normal Black folk who didn't choose to be zombies in RE5. Therefore, it's okay to shoot a brown drug dealer in brazil but its irresponsible to shoot a helpless black zombie who is trying to eated your brains.
I live in Panama and well I guess dark skinned people in Latin America are less darker than Africans
Again, I don't think those games are racist at all, I just think the media is really ironic, like in RE4 you kill Spanish people and the media didn't say a word.
Bem, gostei dessas 'screenshots.'
So...why exactly did Mouthsmasher get downvoted? If anyone here knew Portuguese they'd know that all he said was basically, "In Brazil not everyone is 'brown', there are people of all races".
I'm Brazilian and I'm white, at least I'm not blue though..... Captain Planet.
You really don't understand why he got downvoted?Even though every one here is writing in English we should all write in our Native languages instead b/c it would be more fun and we could all communicate better that way,Right spacefox.
Hopefully Max Payne will have a carnaval scene for some polygonal asses! if a white chick's ass uses about 4,000 polygon, a brazilian ass probably uses about 30,000 of them, and of course per pixel shading and that EA sports sweat effect...
ugh, this is just, idk but man, what is rockstar doing with this? I know they want to separate themselves from Remedy in making this but FFS just make a new IP
Totally agree. They completely done away with everything that made the first 2 games great. The character looks nothing like the original, the world looks wayy too bright & colorful, and noir is thrown out the window..
Just take this same game and rename it a new franchise all together. It's gonna try and sell on the max payne name alone but I bet it'll be just a generic 3rd person shooter And bomb.
With every bit of new info released, my care about it drops significantly.
It's funny cause every other shot in the lineup looks utterly NOT noir. You see 1 siloutted screen and the rest are all complete opposite..
Don't be dumb, just join us in bashing the new look and agree it should just be a new IP all together. Cause this is ruining my childhood. Max Payne 3 should have been set in some dirty city street and 90% at night. Not bright and sunny venezuala or wherever the gay this is.
I refuse to believe Remedy would have taken the franchise on this ridiculous venture.
I think there's too much emphasis on the "noir aesthetic" in this conversation. Go back and look at Double Indemnity, Sunset Boulevard, or even The Maltese Falcon. All very well-lit pictures. The "darkness" of film noir was inside of people who make deals to end human lives. People whose optimistic days were long behind them. People like Max.
That isn't to say that this game definitely won't be an abomination. But I'm still looking forward to seeing where they go from here.
Part of the noir aesthetic was doing dirty deeds at night, thus the famous eye-highlighting light bar across characters faces. Without shadows (and the darkness that creates them), the visual imagery of the scene doesn't depict the all encompassing darkness of the absurd world noir was trying to portray. The characters weren't supposed to be all bad people, just normal people who got caught up in bad things that were out of their control, and the use nighttime settings helped reinforce those ideas. A lot of the intervening scenes happen during the day, but a lot of the pivotal scenes happen at night. Look at Chinatown, investigation during the day, action during the night. Sunset Boulevard, Double Indemnity, The Big Sleep, Out of the Past, Maltese Falcon; all the big, memorable scenes happen at night, with the director framing the shots within the darkness.
@alienterrorist, how about if halo or god of war or some other franchise were set in such a similar environment? thats exactly the problem. this is not being max-payne-like at all. Uncharted is great, but thats not what we expect from a max payne game. you'd know if you played the first two games.
At least the game looks beautiful. I know its not dark and gritty like the old ones but that does not mean it can't be badass. Uncharted was all bright and colorful and when those damn monster things started chasing me in that damn mine I was like OH shit! So hey it could hold some nice suprises. Wait... I just compared Max Payne to Uncharted WTF! Oh well im getting this game anyway I love Max Payne.
Actually, they look like Rio de Janeiro favelas, and they are not like those in São Paulo (i.e. on hills). Anyway, they are once again making one of the biggest country in the world look like its most famous city. Developers could use some wikipedia from time to time.
One more thing, the real São Paulo looks a LOT like NYC, it is a very gritty, gray city. It definitely does not look tropical in any way. I wonder why they would put it in São Paulo (the largest city in the southern hemisphere with 22mil people) and make it look like the amazon. It's really stupid...
Sao Paulo does have a ton of sky scrapers and large buildings, but it looks nothing like NYC. Some parts are highly urban, but other parts, particularly on the outskirts are full of foliage and favelas. Although the city isn't nearly as hilly and mountainous as Rio, there's still plenty of hills wih favelas on them in the city.
I wouldn't come looking unless one burned to the ground. Or maybe if someone took a dump on Bobby Kotick's windshield. But I wouldn't know anything about that.
Fast-paced, highly advanced and furiously violent, Max Payne returns to reinvent the shooter genre with the most sophisticated, stylized shooting action, and a dark and deeply immersive story following one of the most iconic characters in video games. 12 years after the events of Max Payne 2, Max finds himself in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where security work is plentiful but the risks are high. But murder and betrayal dog his every step, and once again, Max is thrust into the heart of a brutal city with nothing but his weapons and his instincts in a desperate search for the truth and a way out.
