LittleBigPlanet-developer Media Molecule is "expanding." Stop looking surprised! After winning more gee oh tee why awards for it's maiden voyage than they probably had room for in their small Guildford-based studio, it's expanding! But, if a "job listing" is to be believed, this expansion isn't limited to an awards wing – it's also hiring a "Gameplay Programmer."
This code wizard is expected to not only have 2+ years industry experience, but also to have "shipped a console game with an online component," an unsurprising requirement considering the studio's (admittedly singular) pedigree. The job listing states that MM is "working on a ground-breaking, AAA, PS3 title for Sony Computer Entertainment" – as much as we'd like to announce "LittleBigPlanet 2 totally confirmed" we're not convinced this description necessarily means a followup game. After all, with DLC still in production on LittleBigPlanet – which is a ground-breaking, AAA PS3 title for Sony Computer Entertainment – this could be related to maintaining LBP as a platform.
But, of course, it's working on other games – expanding the PS3 development team to maintain the already shipped LBP doesn't make sense ... and the job listing does say the applicant "will be expected to maintain and improve the existing code and data structures." Existing code? Data structures? Oh emm gee! LittleBigPlanet 2 totally confirmed!

Damn. All I did was read the headline and Joystiq beat me to the punch:
"LittleBigPlanet 2 totally confirmed!"

Whatever it is, I hope it's actually fun and they don't just throw everything into a single "innovative" idea. Fun comes before innovation guys.

I found it to be horribly boring, and there was really no point to the game other than seeing what kind of stuff everyone else could put into it.

there was no point in the original SMB, yet it was fun. LBP is the same. except with a HUGE level creator.

The pre-built levels were great, but even I gotta admit that after awhile the formula got old. They did manage to break up the monotony from time to time, and some of the user created maps are nice, but unless you have the time to go in and make an amazing original idea for a map, it ends up feeling the same again.
I'm glad they released weapons and other major updates with DLC though.

There's little stories that accompany each stage. People need rescuing, towns need saving, etc. That's the point of the single player game. There's high scores and time trials to beat. You can make your own levels and play levels others have created. How can you not get the point of the game?

I adore LBP and find it a great deal of fun. It would be right up there with the greatest games of all time, too, if it weren't somewhat hampered by the accuracy of its own control scheme. In the meantime, it will have to settle for making at least a few top-50s.

I agree, but that was 20 years ago. Games are a lot more than just 2d platforming through levels now.

You agree with me for the total opposite and wrong reasons. See, I have actually played the game for quite a good number of hours, tried making a level, and played many others and I just didn't like it.
You don't like it because it was a hyped PS3 game, but you haven't played it outside of a demo kiosk (and even then i have a hard time believing you) and you considered it a threat to the 360 so you lashed out at it. You do the same for all the big AAA ps3 exclusives, and there's a lot of them lately...which would explain why we see so much of you now.

Even after all the awards LBP won, you still have more trophies for being a douche.

Jesus H. Christ people, give tmac a break. Regardless of his past actions, don't jump down his throat if he isn't doing something flame-worthy. And as he said (and is right about), it's an opinion. Grow up.
And with that, I actually somewhat agree with tmac. The game WAS awesome, until you finish the story levels, play a little co-op, and then realize that creating a level that is even halfway decent takes a huge, huge time investment. There are a ton of really good user-created levels, but for a game that has to thrive on user-creation, LBP falls flat. It was a better idea than it was a game.
I like/d the game, but I don't think it's nearly as fun as people STILL hype it up to be. To each his own.

I got bored with single player as well, but after I started playing with 3 or 4 players on online user created levels, it changed everything. Some people are pretty creative!

This can be seen as one of four things:
1 - Expansion of development team to work on a new IP (possible)
2 - Sequel to LBP (doubt it)
3 - Expansion to LBP (think "Lost and Damned", not just typical DLC)
4- They needed one more guy for "Beer Pong Fridays".

Oh, I know that one! That's the one where you have to rescue the Sack Girls from the sweatshops!

Little Big Planet felt like a job.
Sorry I know this comment will piss some of you off, but I was disappointed with the game. The graphics were cute but I got tired of them after 10 hours of gameplay. Everything felt like a task. Acquiring the different level pieces was a frustrating experience, and after a while all the Molecule created levels felt the same except with a few creative aesthetic differences. All the user generated content and the rating system became self aggrandizing promotion for those who posted the comments.
In the end I felt it was the most overrated title for what has been a very promising collection of Playstation 3 exclusives.

I totally agree with both of you. It was uncanny how similar the sumo wrestlers were to all three stages of the creator boss, it was like battling the same thing twice. And all of the hundreds of thousands of creative online levels that people have made, don't even bother, its just like playing the story levels over and over and over again. LittleBigCalculator, The Azure Palace, its all the same, don't even waste your time.

There's no need for a LBP 2 though. The first one has more than enough tools where people can make anything they want pretty much, and MM can release more stuff through DLC.
Making another one is just going to be like Valve making a L4D2, pointless and milking the franchise.

You know, sometimes you have to move on. What made them famous is the creative minds behind the game. They both went in a new direction and look what happened, Uncharted and Infamous.
