LittleBigPlanet-developer Media Molecule is "expanding." Stop looking surprised! After winning more gee oh tee why awards for it's maiden voyage than they probably had room for in their small Guildford-based studio, it's expanding! But, if a "job listing" is to be believed, this expansion isn't limited to an awards wing – it's also hiring a "Gameplay Programmer."
This code wizard is expected to not only have 2+ years industry experience, but also to have "shipped a console game with an online component," an unsurprising requirement considering the studio's (admittedly singular) pedigree. The job listing states that MM is "working on a ground-breaking, AAA, PS3 title for Sony Computer Entertainment" – as much as we'd like to announce "LittleBigPlanet 2 totally confirmed" we're not convinced this description necessarily means a followup game. After all, with DLC still in production on LittleBigPlanet – which is a ground-breaking, AAA PS3 title for Sony Computer Entertainment – this could be related to maintaining LBP as a platform.
But, of course, it's working on other games – expanding the PS3 development team to maintain the already shipped LBP doesn't make sense ... and the job listing does say the applicant "will be expected to maintain and improve the existing code and data structures." Existing code? Data structures? Oh emm gee! LittleBigPlanet 2 totally confirmed!

Anyone think this might just be someone to replace an original member on LBP while said member moves on to another game maybe completely unrelated to LBP

*Avoiding temptation to ridicule Sprinkles*
LBP may have had a few issues, but no doubt it was damn impressive, visuals were sleek and shiney, gameplay was unique in my eyes anyway and thus refreshing, yeah, so what if sidescrollers are nothing new, they are certianly new to this HD generation (excluding Wii), it was fun and me being the creative person I am, creating levels was also fun, even though I'm not much of a sharer :P
So the idea of LBP2 and LBP PSP excites me obviously, saying that, if MM can implement the same strategy into any new IPs they decide to create, they can once again impress me and get me to buy without hesitation :)

Geez guys you don't have to vote me down. I just merely expressed my dissatisfaction with the game, it was not meant as a total denouncement of the PS3 platform. I guess Sony isn't allowed a dud here or there. Did I come off as a raving fanboy or something? I was really careful with my words.

I don't know about you guys, but I've taken up drinking as a way to drown my downvoted posts. My liver hates me.

Why the fuck is he a Sony fanboy? I really want to meet you face to face and see if you behave this way without anonymity on your side.

Media Molecule has been committed to LBP being a platform and not just one game in a franchise. They wanted to add more and more things through digital content to expand on the original's potential. So the idea of a sequel is a little unusual (at least for right now).
If anything it may be an expansion pack on the scale of "The Lost and Damned" where there are substantial additions to the game. It could also be a brand new game.

You're losing your touch Sprinkles. Are you not feeling well today? I mean, just because the 360 is a complete waste of time and materials doesn't mean you have to be so mopey about it. Just learn from your mistake and buy a proper console...... and by that I mean the glorious PS3!!

Glorious? Is it the second coming of Christ? I know that the PS3 is a worthwhile system, but come the fuck on. Every system has good points and bad points. There is no such thing as perfection.

The point I'm trying to get across is that referring to an inanimate piece of plastic as "glorious" is a tad off. Also, the reason I equated glory with perfection is that both have overwhelmingly positive connotations. Still, I could have chosen my words better. I apologise.

I dont think they should work on LBP 2 maybe until the end of the PS3, they should concentrate on doing another FUN game but please keep Sackboy as your character maybe use those motion controllers

It would be good for them to have another shot at making something top-shelf. LBP was a great start for a previously unknown company, but had some flaws that held it back (notably the platforming mechanics themselves)
They could create something truly epic, given more time, money, and talent

LBP sounds like a great game but I dont think a sequel will be that great. It would be great if they make another IP and just keep supporting this one. I mean, come on, can anyone here even think of something that they would do with a sequel that they cant just add through DLC? Is the DLC free? I dont have the game(or a ps3 at that matter, yet) but if you have to pay for ALL the DLC then it might be a good idea because a $60 gets you more stuff the $60 worth of DLC.

I agree with most people here(as long as your not being sarcastic) but I dont think joystiq would be the same without sprinkles. Its just so funny reading his coments and reading the replies. Its the one time when sony fanboys and microsoft fanboys(and all the non-fanboys) get along and its just... its just beutiful. I think I might just cry :'(

I admire MM alot for LBP, it wasn't my cup of tea, but It was the cutest tea ever poured. I would prefer something a little more 'gamey' and less casual. But I look forward to this no matter.

I'm hoping it's a brand new game that they're coming out with. The next LBP, I hope it is in a 3D world. I think there could be a lot a lot of cool and different things to do, even more than what there already are.
I've yet to finish the regular 'campaign' mode (i've been stuck on that rotating electric wheel thing) but do understand why that person said there's no real object to it. The story aspect of it is pretty weak, but it's still fun. I wouldn't mind seeing a more indepth story while keeping the cute and fun aspect of it. I don't play it that often any more because it did get a little boring, one thing though that did make it a lot more fun was creating my own level and the more I played around with it, the better and better it got, but again, got tired of doing that.
One thing I do like about it is that the game can pretty much never get old as long as people keep creating levels.

So is it out of the realm of possibility that LBP might be a little bit overrated and not as good as the game media made it out to be? Sackboy is very appealing, I could see how there is a superficial affinity to the mascot based on first impressions and also the game's concept, but once played its a different story.
I know there are a lot of you reading this who are too afraid to come out and say how you really feel about this game due to the hive coming after you with down votes and labels. Ignore them and come out now, express what you really feel.

I liked LBP, I still like platformers. And it was fun to how so much power in level creations. I'm not sure why people take the time to read stories about games they don't like & then EVEN comment of them?
Example I've never played Halo & could care less about it & I have NEVER read a story about Halo & then commented about how it sucks LOL - what a waste.
Anyway, if it is a Little Big Planet sequel, they'd really have to give some new twist feature to make it worth it. Perhaps LBP-2 - would have 3-D not with glasses but as in you could walk 'into' the screen like the later Crash Bandicoot games. Or with 3D glasses?
