The off-Broadway (it's in Brooklyn) play, Adventure Quest, explores the conventions set by Sierra's adventure games back in the time of yore (that's something like 20 years ago). The story follows a hero who must meticulously collect items and push forward on his journey while playing by the rules. Of course, things start going wrong, à la Into the Woods (if you don't know, Netflix it).
Adventure Quest, currently playing at the Brick Theater as part of the Antidepressent Festival, will also be part of the theater's Game Play celebration, which will have a variety of video game related performances throughout July. If you've seen it (don't be shy, there is love of theater here at the 'stiq), let us know what you thought.

I live up in Alaska, so if it were local, which I doubt, I'd try to go to it in person. Would there be a DVD for sale offically that could ship to Alaska?

if it's a small thing in brooklyn you'd probably call it off-off broadway... big venues like blue man group are off-broadway

I'd go if I lived closer. But thanks for the Into the Woods reference...I do love Into the Woods, but every time it comes up I just imagine that Wolf and get completely creeped out.
Excuse me while I rewatch Bernadette Peters rapping about vegetables to clear my mind.

Holy crap, and I thought I was the only one who got the Into the Woods nod. ... and now I have the image of the wolf in my head, too. Thanks.
Next up, an off-Broadway production of Maniac Mansion, where the audience must pick three cast members and hope for the best!

Eh, Evil Dead the Music was still the best off-off Broadway production.

As someone who used to do shows with Justin McElroy in college, I can confirm the man's participation in Musical Theatre. It's okay, Justin. We all spontaneously break into song from time-to-time.

I saw Into the Woods last year at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival (the definitive production no doubt) and yea that wolf was creepy. Where were plays like this last month when I was in New York, ended up seeing on Broadway stuff...
