Game consoles are not media centers. I really liked good old NES you put a game in and play. Why do I need to turn on my console and see 45 damn ads about games and BS I don't slightly care about. I want a block all the useless BS feature.

this is the same guy who said "this console generation is the last" and other such nonsense. i've never known him to predict anything that couldn't be predicted by a child or by flipping a coin.

and why is this guy always talked about and referenced? you'd think he actually made something, created something, did something worth a damn. he doesn't. he's just a douche. stop giving this douche attention.

Pachter reminds me of my dog. He'll just sit out in the backyard barking at the sky, mostly just listening to himself, but if someone picks up on it, that's just gravy.

In the long-term, it may have significance, as its probably a forerunner for better social integration, but in the short term, it's not going to do anything for the platform.

I don't see why you need to go on those well using a console. This makes no sense when its not mobile because most people have computers in there house as well. Well at least it goes to show how lazy people are now.

Time killer while waiting for buddies to sign on? That's all I can think of. Guaranteed to be more exciting than cycling back and forth through the dashboard for ten minutes.

For all you twitter naysayers, aren't you technically tweeting right now? I don't have any use for that functionality but I imagine most of the hardcore commenter's here would. Just forget about that annoying word "twitter" and just think about commenting about certain gaming experiences or demos right from the console and your xbox friends could be connected to that information. That is pretty powerful stuff.

Was real excited about Last.fm until I realized it was no longer free in Canada. Now it'll just be a waste of precious dashboard space... no better than an ad, when you think about it.

Twitter's alright though.

What is this, non-sequitur day? I'm going to go buy an airplane so I can brush my teeth in it.

Apparently I'm senile at age 24, but the new Ratchet, Galaxy, Mario bros, God of War, Alan Wake, the new PSP and the load of PSP games, Halo ODST/Reach, etc, etc, seem MUCH MUCH MUCH more interesting in the world of gaming to me than some features that any computer can run (simultaneously at that!).

How disgusting. It reminds me of a review of the '09 Ford Focus in my local newspaper that spent the entirety of the review talking about the Microsoft SYNC features and the ambient lights, without a single mention of the new final drive ratio/added horsepower while maintaining the same fuel economy, or any other aspect pertaining to the engineering.

But, he's probably right. Twitter/Facebook is as mainstream as you can possibly get, so it has the potential to pull in the same scatterbrained dolts that buy cars based on whether or not it'll play their iPod.

The only one I'm even remotely interested in is Last.fm, but even then I'm only interested if it will work in-game as a custom soundtrack.

Twitter and Facebook on the 360 game console! That way, I can waste time while I'm wasting time!

So useful! In the olden days, I'd have to lean over and pick up my iPod Touch in order to tell the world what movie I was watching. That or use my cel phone, but if it wasn't in the same room as the 360, let's face it - I wouldn't bother.

And Last.fm? Lemme tell ya, there is nothing more efficient than playing music with a 14 amp videogame console hooked up to giant TV. We used to have to use simple stereos to accomplish that feat!

as stupid as he may sound, i was about to say the same thing before e3. facebook and twitter are monstrously popular right now and i was suspecting the ps3 to integrate this first [without knowledge that microsoft actually owns a bit of facebook]. i was suspecting sony since they're usually the first to try to grab the wii's casual audience with non-gaming applications; and generally they're out of touch. but dedicated integration with facebook/twitter is a lot more personal than using a browser on a console and that's why this is a big deal.

I don't mind Twitter, I don't mind Facebook.

But can't we have Spotify instead of the evil Last.fm?

For me, personally, none of this is important. Or even relevant.
The 360 is my games-playing device.

Also for me, personally, Pachter is a right twat.

It's got to the point now that I only have to see his name and I automatically think 'Twat!' before reading what new analysis he's spouted out of his arse.

The only thing I'm going to like with this is the fact you can add any of your Facebook friends (who use it on the Xbox) to your Xbox friends list other than that I think only my gf would enjoy this feature! Ohhh wait! Facebook on the Xbox wasn't meant for the hardcore gamer? Well maybe my girlfriend will like playing games more often!

Twitter? Huh. I like the sound of last.fm (even though I prefer Pandora) especially if it'll be possible to use it for Xbox's custom soundtracks feature, but personally, I could easily do without Twitter. I'm looking forward more to Facebook coming to the dashboard, but even that is just for the screenshot posting functionality.

Adding a browser into 360 would be the worst thing for microsoft to do. More households own a computer than they do a gaming platform. chnaces are if you have broadband to deliver to your Xbox then you have a computer to match.

I personally never heard of Last.fm before this announcement but I checked it out and im hooked. Glad we are getting that. And also Facebook will be a nice addition. Not even looked into Twitter yet, dont think ill like it though.

Microsoft is not aiming at hardcore gamers with this one, but I think we will get suckered in by the ease of use with these services. Its not all about games anymore, and I think this is a step in the right direction. What about SKY TV? Mainly affects us in the UK but the idea of watching a Champions League Final On XBL with my pals is something that would make me buy a 360 all over again.

What is the biggest complaint most people have about the Wii? Once they are done playing Wii Sports they do not turn the thing on for months. Microsoft is providing another reason for these casual people to turn on their consoles. If they can watch Netflix, update Facebook, check out Twitter, listen to Lastfm, or jump into 1 vs 100 it starts to add up to a very compelling offering.
