PSN release of Final Fantasy VII downloaded over 100,000 times

While touting the "power and interoperability built into the PlayStation brand," Sony also officially announced additional PS1 games for release later this summer: Wild Arms 2, Mobile Light Force and Spec Ops: Stealth Patrol. It's unlikely any of these games will even come close to what Final Fantasy VII was able to achieve.

Love this game...Squall is amazing!
LordToastington @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:36PM
Umm...
WREturns @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:39PM
No, he's right, Squall's Alzheimer's would kick the shit out of Cloud's schizophrenia!
LordToastington @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:42PM
Oh, I agree. But Squall isn't in VII, that's my point.
Henry @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:45PM

Of course he is! He falls in love with Ashe remember? L2FF noob.
WREturns @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:45PM
But he should have been, LordToastington. He should have been.
Chad Vanderbilt (Moptimus in Disguise) @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:08PM
either Squall was in FFVII or Cloud was in FFVIII because I remember seeing the 2 together during a cutscene
Surfaced @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:15PM
Well, they were both in Kingdom Hearts.
LaughingTarget @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:55PM
They're also both in horrible fanfic that you'd want to scrub from your mind.
I am a machineee @ Jun 23rd 2009 4:29PM
Dissidia, anyone?
Bigg Bozz @ Jun 24th 2009 12:37AM
I'm not buying this or any game online because it gives Microsoft and Sony more incentive to move toward digital distribution and make disc games obsolete. If that happens then us gamers get shafted because we wouldn't be able to trade games or resell them on ebay. Don't know about you guys but when I buy something I don't want Microsoft or Sony limiting my options on a property I own.
pspfanboi @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:35PM

koehler83 @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:35PM
$1000000 in two weeks. How that's split between Sony and Square, I have no idea. But if that doesn't fund further releases, Square Enix is more retarded than I have thus far given them credit for.
WREturns @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:47PM
The split is 43/52/5 with the cash going to Sony/Square/Jack Tretton's Favorite Charity respectively. Don't ask me how I know this.
Mazrael @ Jun 23rd 2009 3:36PM
yeah, Alcoholics Anonimous!
He looked like he'd cleaned up this year..
WREturns @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:38PM
Why can't I just get me FFVI remake already!?
AsherR @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:42PM
THANK YOU! A voice of reason! FFVI is hands down my favorite FF and my 2nd favorite Square game (Chrono Trigger holds that spot...)
Oh and none of this DS or "OH WE ADDED CUTSCENES" crap.
LordToastington @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:42PM
TRIGGER!!
WINterfang @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:44PM
Yeah and make it on the 360 too.
Sly @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:44PM
yeah, i'd rather have a chrono trigger remake, then a chrono cross remake, then a chrono sequel.
Joystick Hero @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:45PM
"Me FFVI remake"
You talk like a pirate.
WREturns @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:50PM
I talk like a pirate because I AM a pirate. Anyways, Chrono Trigger sequel would be sweet, but I think I put too many hours into the original to really want a remake.
Viney @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:55PM
FFVI does not need to be remade. Re-release, fine, but otherwise leave it alone!
WREturns @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:03PM
You don't want to see the world break apart in glorious HD? You don't want to listen to the Opera scene in 5.1, no!, 7.1 surround sound? You don't want one of the greatest epics of our day to be again displayed in all of it's heartbreaking beauty? With all of its bleak desolation? Well, I'll say "Good day" to you, sir.
Zerokku @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:03PM
I'm torn. One one hand VI is my favorite in the series, I would love to see it in glorious 3d, and there are definitely parts of the plot that could be fleshed out a little bit.
On the other hand, after seeing what's been done to VII the past couple years, I'm not sure I want squeenix touching the game with a 10 foot pole.
Nate @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:07PM
no kidding! they've ported it to the ps1, the gameboy advance, and even the ds. why not make a high-quality remake for the ps3?
the only reasons it's not more popular than ff7 is because it's 2d and has kinda crappy cutscenes (spoiler! nothing compared to dropping Aeris into the water)
why such the hesitation on making such easy money and improving the games?
Snowblind @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:26PM
@WINterfang
We can both be voted down, but it's fairly safe to say that if it ever does get remade, it'll be on the 360 as well. The games just require to much time and money to make these days, which is the whole reason they haven't done it yet.
j3ff @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:30PM
i have a special place in my heart for FF6...
AsherR @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:30PM
SPOILER for FFVI and VII if it even needs to be said at this point...
My brother and I were talking about VI this weekend. Kefka is one of my favorite villains mainly because he didn't have any tormented back story or history. He was just dag nasty evil.
I mean Sephy was cool and all, ya know when stabbed and killed a defenseless, praying girl. But Kefka didn't try to destroy the world, he DID. And all of this he did while being dressed like a clown.
Truth be told I would be wary of them destroying the game in a remake, but if they're going to keep remaking crap then they should at least remake the best! (In my personal opinion naturally)
Rabidkeebler @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:47PM
While I can see a FFVI remake, I can't see a FFVII remake. The reason why is there is so much goofy stuff that goes on in the game that it would look really awkward in today's graphics.
Examples include Cloud Cross Dressing, his snow board race to heal himself after Aeris's death, and Cloud's hot tub scene with around 10 scantily clad body builders.
T-Patch @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:59PM
all this talk of FFVI reminded me of the old tech demo made before VII.
http://lostlevels.org/200510/
still, if this is any indication... the VII PS3 tech demo is just what it's gonna be... a tech demo ;~;
koehler83 @ Jun 23rd 2009 3:34PM
If Dissidia is any indication, as awesome as it is, FFVI could NEVER be done justice in 3D. It's as close to perfect as it will ever be.
Jon Acheson @ Jun 23rd 2009 4:32PM
You could try and find the Final Fantasy Chronicles collections that were put out at the end of the PS1 age. As PS1 games, they should play on any model PS3.
Viney @ Jun 23rd 2009 4:44PM
no, no NO! Do NOT waste your money on the PS1 Final Fantasy re-release collections. Unless you prefer your flavor of random battles to be preceded by load times... EVERY time. Trust me, as great as FFVI is, it's a game breaker.
Cody @ Jun 23rd 2009 7:03PM
@Snowblind
I'm pretty sure time and money isn't the problem. If they were short on cash they would have remade vii and then they would have no problem with money.
Havok @ Jun 24th 2009 2:51AM
I still listen to this sometimes. To relive the magic.

Guilty.
The announcement of FFVII on PSN was a huge deal for me at E3... people have been waiting for this announcement since forever, but it makes me wonder why Sony can announce FFVII for 10 bucks (available that same day) but somehow get ragged on for everything else they do.
chispito @ Jun 23rd 2009 4:55PM
Because so much of everything else they do deserves ragging on?
Old_Snake @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:39PM
I hope this will lead to Xenogears finally getting released on the US Store. I've always wanted to play it, but was never able to. The eBay prices are pretty high, so I'd definitely buy it for $9.99
Tim Parsons @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:01PM
I never did beat Xenogears the disc was bad right at the end and would lock up on the Cut scene just b4 the final Boss.
I love the XenoSaga Series too that's a great Trilogy
acefondu @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:10PM
It is my favorite game of all time, one you shouldn't miss. Hopefully Square puts it up. But I think from this reception they will put up FF8 and FF9 before any of their other stuff.
