Telltale: Tales of Monkey Island might come to XBLA 'later on'
Speaking to Eurogamer, Telltale's Dave Grossman spoke to the possibility of seeing Tales of Monkey Island on Xbox Live Arcade. Currently slated only for Wii and PC, Tales of Monkey Island could eventually see the light of day on XBLA, according to Grossman. "We didn't so much decide not to put it on Xbox Live Arcade as we decided not to put it on XBLA now," said Grossman, explaining that Telltale has been alternating platforms for each release. Joystiq readers will recall that Strong Bad is on Wii, while Wallace & Gromit is an XBLA title.
Grossman indicates that Tales of Monkey Island may wind up on XBLA, saying, "Yeah, I mean I wouldn't rule it out. We might do that one later on."
Regarding Telltale's overall strategy for future titles and other platforms, Grossman says that Telltale would eventually like to release "on every downloadable channel there is." When that will actually happen revolves around "how and when and can [Telltale] actually afford to do it."

When that will actually happen revolves around "how and when and can [Telltale] actually afford to do it."
So basically, the more we buy the more we get. I believe that's been stated multiple times.

I just bought Sam & Max Save the World, so I'm doing my part. C'mon Monkey Island and Strong Bad!
Curtis @ Jun 23rd 2009 3:03PM
My girlfriend already stated that she was buying Secret of Monkey Island not only for herself and her 360, but my own as well so that I may enjoy it at the same time.
Bigg Bozz @ Jun 24th 2009 12:35AM
I'm not buying this or any game online because it gives Microsoft and Sony more incentive to move toward digital distribution and make disc games obsolete. If that happens then us gamers get shafted because we wouldn't be able to trade games or resell them on ebay. Don't know about you guys but when I buy something I don't want Microsoft or Sony limiting my options on a property I own.

I have 204 pieces of eight.
Preston @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:43PM
But I want it on XBLA now. :(

Adventure games from the early 90s mostly, good fun but everyone makes a bigger deal out of them than need be for some reason.
Sinister Rouge @ Jun 23rd 2009 3:06PM
Well, people make a big deal out of them because it feels like a return to memories of when good writing still existed in games. Also, the return of big(ger) budget adventure games. I still love those things, but hardly anybody makes them. Thanks Telltale!
Markusdragon @ Jun 23rd 2009 3:48PM
I have to disagree with you there, Shagg; 1990s adventure games are a massive deal because in an age where video games' stories were whatever the manual writers could come up with at the last minute, point and click adventure games were offering us character development and writing on a level far better than even most modern examples.
alienterrorist @ Jun 23rd 2009 5:23PM
Well, I just heard of it not that long ago. How oldi is it?
Shagittarius @ Jun 23rd 2009 5:40PM
Not trying to argue here really...
To me those adventure games were the culmination of 10 or so years of perpetually the same design over and over. I had been playing text games for years before those graphic adventure games came out.
When finally we started to see First person shooters it sorta made Graphic adventure games look like those old text only based games.
I agree that these were great adventure games, but as far as game design went they were the same old tired stuff i'd been playing since '81. RTS, Platformers, FPS, strategy games all offered something far more interesting than another adventure game. I think ultimately thats why they died off, reguardless of what anyone might tell you.
Now its purely a nostalgia thing, which i get, I collect and own most of these games already. I just don't think anyone whos not doing it for nostalgia purposes will be very interested in playing much of these with just resolution upgrades. They need gameplay upgrades to truely hit the bigger market.
Just my opinion, not trying to dissagree with you guys in a fight kinda way...

What system did Sam & Max come out for first? Oh yeah, PC and Wii. It looks like they're just occasionally omitting the Arcade, not alternating systems.
I Like Corn @ Jun 24th 2009 5:36AM
Not really. Sam and Max was a PC-only release, the only other "platform" of release was Gametap. They then later ported it to the Wii(point and click is easier to port over there) and THEN ported to XBLA.
They weren't including other platforms until SBCG4AP, which they put on Wiiware because they were still doing point-and-click. Then XBLA with Wallace and Gromit, then back to Wiiware for Tales it seems.
Their general policy is "We want it on everything, but our monthly episodic release schedule and resources don't allow that."
Pos @ Jun 23rd 2009 3:11PM
Will only buy it if its on XBLA so.. "No Soup for U"
Old_Snake @ Jun 23rd 2009 3:12PM
I'm not sure how it works, but doesn't Sony have a policy of helping distribute and fund games from smaller developers over the PSN? Maybe Telltale could apply for that or something to help them break onto the that channel. I guess anyway, I'm not entirely sure how that works
Felix J. @ Jun 23rd 2009 3:18PM
I think what you are referring to is the pub fund.
I'm pretty sure they only split development costs if the game is PSN exclusive, so these games wouldn't apply.
Old_Snake @ Jun 23rd 2009 3:19PM
Oh, I see, well never mind then. I guess that would be much help
Old_Snake @ Jun 23rd 2009 3:22PM
*Wouldn't I mean, of course
Sinister Rouge @ Jun 23rd 2009 3:21PM
I have both, but I would feel weird playing this on a console. I guess it is just because I am used to adventure games on a PC. How am I supposed to click on every little thing without a mouse? Guess I'm just a traditionalist when it comes to adventure games.
BlackBeltJones @ Jun 23rd 2009 5:50PM
Makes sense, you make your money from the hardcore fans on your site, keep 100% of the profits then release it a few months down the line on other services to pick up a few more sales.
HDpurist @ Jun 23rd 2009 5:52PM
Whats up with the fat chick with saggy twins in the pic with an xbox symbol on her head? Is this the typical hottie for the typical Microsoft fanboi? ...hmm, good to know.
I Like Corn @ Jun 24th 2009 5:40AM
That's the Voodoo lady from Monkey Island. She has the Xbox logo because the game may be coming to XBLA. This is not a hard image to decipher, and neither was a fanboy hate comment really warranted or wanted.
Holster® @ Jun 23rd 2009 6:20PM
Good news about possible future releases on other platforms. As a PS3 and Mac owner, I'm starting to feel a bit left out in the current graphic adventure renaissance...

Original Monkey Island on the Wii yes yes? Point and click for the win.
I Like Corn @ Jun 24th 2009 5:38AM
They've basically given a "If it sells well, we'll port it to other platforms and give it a retail box release" line.
