Hey, remember that Gamasutra feature where Michael Pachter said Xbox Twitter was the greatest thing of E3? Yeah, well in that very same feature, Cowen and Company analyst Doug Creutz had some choice words for the PlayStation Motion Controller. Specifically, Creutz believes that while Project Natal may have gotten the bulk of E3 coverage, the PlayStation Motion Controller is the better peripheral for hardcore gamers.
"Natal appeared to me to be a technological solution in search of a problem," said Creutz. "I had a very hard time envisioning playing Modern Warfare 3 using Natal," he said, adding, "By contrast, I had a very easy time envisioning it (and enjoying it) using Sony's control/motion capture scheme." Creutz stated that Microsoft is likely trying to snag some of the Wii's casual marketshare -- "a difficult proposition given that you're essentially asking casual gamers to upgrade twice during the cycle," according to Creutz -- while Sony's device caters more to the core gaming demographic.
We must point out that neither Project Natal nor the PlayStation Motion Controller are finished products, so there's no telling how they might be implemented in future games. For example, there's no reason that Natal couldn't make use of both motion sensing and traditional control, similar to Sony's device. Furthermore, we'd say Sony is probably just as keen to capture some of the casual market as Microsoft.

The PS3eye is just a 2D camera. There is nothing about the camera that allows you to map along the Z axis. There is only so much you can do with a regular camera.
Lets be honest, the Eyepet paper object is nothing more than video capture and creating an object of that capture. This is all software base and has nothing to do with the hardware. Any camera would be able to do the same thing, hell, I provided a link showing MS doing something similar already.
Could you provide a link of the PS3eye doing actual 3d stuff. Not the wand technology but actually just the camera itself. I do know the camera can do 3d in a very limited capacity but you can only do so much with software and a 2D scene.
I do not understand the Sixaxis argument. Every game is not made to use the motion controls on the Sixaxis and even if they were using the wand technology is totally different from the Sixaxis. The Sixaxis does not use a camera to map the location of the controller in 3d space. I am sure the data that comes back from the PS3eye is totally different from the data used for the Sixaxis so the amount of work would be exactly the same if not more for an existing game to use the wand tech or Natal. MS has already shone that it can be done with Natal, we still will need to see if it can be done with Sony's wand.
Do not forget that Sony has already stated that their technology can only track 4 wands at one time while MS has stated that 4 people with 48 bones mapped for each individual, 192 points total is on a totally different plane.
I continue to here people say they cannot see how Natal can be used in games like Halo or Gears of War. I hate to say this but thats because a lot of people do not have any type of imagination. The reason you cannot see yourself playing Halo with Natal because you are stuck in the box that says you need a keyboard and mouse to play FPS or you can only see yourself holding something to play a game. We will see what company can truly bring an interface and control method to a FPS using Natal that changes the way you think about playing those game because I can think of at least 3 different methods I believe would be great.
I like the Sony wand but I am more interested in seeing what Sony 1st party devs can do with the technology. I am not excited about the technology because I have not seen anything that separate it from the Wiimote including M+.

"Creutz believes that while Project Natal may have gotten the bulk of E3 coverage, the PlayStation Motion Controller is the better peripheral for hardcore gamers."
I beg to differ. MS had 1 original playable game. 1 older game made playable, and 1 software to show emotion detection with the project natal camera. This all seemed to work flawlessly. However the PS motion camera, seem to be a hit and miss during the demo. This kind of stuff has been shown before with the ps2 so its nothing new on Sonys behalf.
Natal was obviously more mature than the pseye2 by the demonstrations at e3. If you don't agree then you have a favouritism issue which I can't help with. Remember there was 2 games available for people to test the natal camera at e3.
PSeye is a better camera than the original xbox camera, however natal has seemed to hit the sweet spot with better technology behind it.
Sorry but the motion detection for the PS3 seemed to be added into the E3 demonstration by Sony after MS wowed the crowed with Natal to try and bring some attention back to themselves.
By the way, I'm into the motion controller based games and only have a Wii. I will eventually get a Ps3 or x360 depending on which one comes on top with there motion control schemes. So far I'm leaning towards the X360.

@ all the delusional asshats,
You really need to stop with the Microsoft bashing over Natal, (and it's supposed copying of the Wii), because the facts speak volumes, and the fact is Nintendo and Sony copied Microsoft in all this, (not the other way around), so get a clue.
If you guys did a little research you would quickly discover that the big heads at Nintendo never revolutionized shit; now who are the true copiers !!

I have been saying this, ever since the Wii hit the market, and every time someone decides to try and say how revolutionary the Wii is, (and now Sony decided to jump on the bandwagon); what a joke !!

As others have said, core gamers don't like motion controls. It's just not hte same as a controller. Such as, you don't have precise controls with motion. And I know when I use a controller I feel more into the game, as I feel I have more control of the game.

How come no one is talking about how Sony's new device IS the Wiimote in black?

Hopefully these suits will understand that motion controls are a ancillary function of gaming.
