Gearbox trademarks 'Modern War Hero,' instrument compatibility unconfirmed

Oooh! We get it now. Gearbox wants Infinity Ward to quit making war games so it can get a piece. After the last Brother in Arms made a hasty retreat for the bargain bin, Gearbox looks like it could be deploying a new strategy: the Trojan horse.

A slew of new trademarks suggests the studio might try to sneak future games off of store shelves and into consumers' homes by disguising them as a cross between Activision's growing "Hero" brand and its Call of Duty games. Among the trademarked: "War Hero," "World War II Hero," "Brother In Arms War Hero," and -- saving the best for last -- "Modern War Hero." We can hear the conversation at GameStop already:

Madden Guy #1: Modern War Hero? Hey, bro, this the new Call of Duty?
Madden Guy #2: Yeah, broheim. Definitely.
Madden Guy #1: Sweeeeeet! New Madden ain't out yet -- I'm all over this.
Madden Guy #2: True. I'm not gonna lie, it sounds like you can play with your Guitar Hero guitar.
Madden Guy #1: Dude. Niiiiiice.

Randy Pitchford is a f***ing a**hole. He spent 4 years making Hell's Highway and it was terrible. Gearbox is the laughing stock of the industry right now. All he can do is make lame jokes to deflect away from his company's piss poor game development skills.

I will buy Modern War Hero if it comes with a gun I can shoot him in the face with.

Duuuuude.

How it works is that you have an assault rifle of some kind, your co-op buddy has a plastic PSG-1, your other buddy has an M203 attachment to their M4 and your other buddy again has a microphone into which he/she will shout battle orders.

The "fretboard" rolls up the screen and you have to make "music" by firing the right weapon at the right time and calling out the correct commands.

Genius. I'd take this over Glockenspiel Hero any day.

there'll be like a de-hypermode cheat right? there's no way i'd be able strum those bullets at normal speed.

i don't even want to think about strumming the machine gun.

Ha Ha Ha Ha... nice one guys really funny. What, you're serious? No way. Really? This can't end well.

An obvious fart in Activision's general direction. I think it's funny and doubt anything will ever come of it.

It'll be a sad day in history if those games get made. An even sadder day if they make money.

If it had the guitar from Once Upon A Time In Mexico, I might rent it.
