Metroid Prime Trilogy packaging cooler than a Chozo suit

We just got sent the box art for the upcoming Metroid Prime Trilogy and, wow, it's really nice. Featuring a badass Samus-adorned metal case, the box art is about as cool and futuristic as the retooled Metroid Prime content located on its disc. In addition to the metal case, the Wii Trilogy will also include a "special Metroid Prime Trilogy artbook." Looks like Nintendo's managed to weasel out another $50 out of us, huh? We'd go on more about it, but then that would keep you from going into our gallery below and checking out the various shots for yourself.

I don't know what you're talking about, their games regularly feature awesome box art. Sure the MP3 box looked ridiculous, but look at Phantom Hourglass, or Smash Bros.

It doesnt really count as a joke if it has been said thousands of times before, and/or isnt funny.

@ Damien: A joke retold is still a joke. Plus, it was retold in a different way, another common element in comedy.

Definitely. Even though I already have all three games... I DO WANT because of the epic case. It just screams "BUY ME, METROID FANS!"

I must say this is an unprecedented move for them. They thrive on putting fan-service into their games, but they generally never even try on the swag front (last thing i can remember where those boxing shorts for Punch-Out!!, then the coin that came with SMG before that)

One thing I liked in the past was the maps that they included with Golden Sun, and I think The Lost Age as well.

Anyway, I'll have to pick this up. I've never played the three Prime games.

phantom hourglass, a special feather stylus was given free to those who registered or completed a survey...can't recall which one.

Only says one player on the back. I really hope they didn't take out the genuinely fun multiplayer mode from Prime 2. Could have only gotten better in widescreen.

This is how you do it, Ninty. They never have cool packaging or do the 'Special Edition' thing. Nintendo should spruce up their classic franchises. I suppose the gold catridge was cool, but that's the only thing I can think of that was really neat for Nintendo fans.

I bet they will eventually do some sort of special edition pack in thing for super mario galaxy and the sequel.

Do not like it, but I will buy! Should have been all black with the 8 bit samus looking forward like when she beams down from the ship.

I was so hoping for them to bundle these games having so much about them - especially the first one. Never really expected Nintendo to deliver though.

Now maybe I'll discover whether my blind fanboy argument - Halo 1 >Metroid 1- from yesteryear were in anyway correct.

If you're talking about Halo vs Metroid Prime 1, then no. No game beats Metroid Prime 1. Ever. Halo vs the original Metroid is more arguable, since the latter borders on the boundary of too damn hard, between the lack of any sort of central map, and the fact that many areas looked exactly the same, to the point where you could get utterly and untraceably lost.

Yeah, I was referring to Metroid Prime on the Gamecube. I guess I'll see about that 'No game beats Metroid Prime 1. Ever.' soon enough.

You've peaked my interest about the original Metroid now.

As long as you don't play MP1 (or 2) like an FPS and start judging the game on its battle tactics or some nonsense. That's what I've seen too many people do and it's missing the point by effing miles. It's the gameplay of Super Metroid, but in 3D. That's why it'll always be infinitely superior to Halo.

Personally I think it's one of the worst box's I've ever seen, but whatever.

Looking at it some more, that's certainly a fake. The misspelling of echoes (mentioned above) makes it fairly certain, and the back of the box in general looks like it was made by someone who just did their first Photoshop filters + stroke lesson.

Amazon has the same picture up, and I saw this way before this was posted anyway, and I don't believe amazon would post a pic of a game from a random photoshopper.

Its the real deal, they'll fix the mistakes later I bet.

And the back totally does look like Lesson 4 from Learn Photoshop in 30 days.

@Cross: Pre-release box images are sometimes done with a rendering program - it can be easier than photographing a real box. (I didn't even look at the images, so not making a judgement on whether these are real or 3d.)

cool, i can't wait. love the prime series, echoes is quite possibly my favorite game of all time - great difficulty level.

launch day purchase for me, despite already owning all three. wiimote controls, can't wait.

First day purchase for me!

I enjoyed the first Prime game, and have played very little of the 2nd & 3rd ones. But what I did play was fun.

Nice deal really, especially with an artbook.

And still no EU release date. Why can't Nintendo pull off simultaneous worldwide releases like most other publishers?

The EU release date has already been said. The date is Sept 4th 09.

So they release it on my first week back at university? Amazingly bad timing. I guess I'll just wait and unless Galaxy 2 comes out at Christmas, then it'd be a great present.
