Metroid Prime Trilogy packaging cooler than a Chozo suit
Click image to morph into gallery
We just got sent the box art for the upcoming Metroid Prime Trilogy and, wow, it's really nice. Featuring a badass Samus-adorned metal case, the box art is about as cool and futuristic as the retooled Metroid Prime content located on its disc. In addition to the metal case, the Wii Trilogy will also include a "special Metroid Prime Trilogy artbook." Looks like Nintendo's managed to weasel out another $50 out of us, huh? We'd go on more about it, but then that would keep you from going into our gallery below and checking out the various shots for yourself.

That's so sweet. It's wicked awesome!
-Vexx- @ Jun 24th 2009 4:48PM
Nintendo going all out on Box Art? That's ra-Never.
Good job
bm @ Jun 25th 2009 5:37AM
I don't know what you're talking about, their games regularly feature awesome box art. Sure the MP3 box looked ridiculous, but look at Phantom Hourglass, or Smash Bros.
Storm Eagle @ Jun 24th 2009 4:49PM
But Oh No! Spelling Fail!
"New Wii controls for Metroid: Prime and Metroid Prime 2: ECHOS" ??????
It's Echoes, you fools!!
Garst @ Jun 24th 2009 8:13PM
You should hurry and snatch up a copy with the mis-spelling. It'll be worth more!
ohyeahcola @ Jun 24th 2009 8:21PM
who cares if they mispelled?
Brendan H @ Jun 24th 2009 11:40PM
They also misspelled Two GameCubes Duct Taped Together.
C'mon, I kid.
Erik Stroud @ Jun 25th 2009 1:34AM
Maybe it will be a collectors item one day.
Brendan H @ Jun 25th 2009 6:00PM
Thanks for voting me down! It reaffirms the fact that people out there can't take a joke (or possibly even understand one)! Way to reinforce the "fanboy" stereotype!
Damian @ Jun 25th 2009 7:40PM
It doesnt really count as a joke if it has been said thousands of times before, and/or isnt funny.
Brendan H @ Jun 25th 2009 11:48PM
@ Damien: A joke retold is still a joke. Plus, it was retold in a different way, another common element in comedy.
You've done this as well, in case you don't remember:
http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/16/daniel-petric-sentenced-to-23-years-in-prison/
"So he will be out just in time for Duke Nukem Forever."
Hmm, sounds like an "old" joke that's been said before, am I right? Way to contradict yourself!
Duke @ Jun 24th 2009 4:52PM
Looks like a must have!
ZaxCG2 @ Jun 25th 2009 3:10PM
Definitely. Even though I already have all three games... I DO WANT because of the epic case. It just screams "BUY ME, METROID FANS!"
Mr Khan @ Jun 24th 2009 4:53PM
I must say this is an unprecedented move for them. They thrive on putting fan-service into their games, but they generally never even try on the swag front (last thing i can remember where those boxing shorts for Punch-Out!!, then the coin that came with SMG before that)
Quite impressed
Suichimo @ Jun 24th 2009 5:00PM
One thing I liked in the past was the maps that they included with Golden Sun, and I think The Lost Age as well.
Anyway, I'll have to pick this up. I've never played the three Prime games.
Nook @ Jun 24th 2009 5:18PM
phantom hourglass, a special feather stylus was given free to those who registered or completed a survey...can't recall which one.
cuteSAVAGE @ Jun 24th 2009 4:53PM
Only says one player on the back. I really hope they didn't take out the genuinely fun multiplayer mode from Prime 2. Could have only gotten better in widescreen.
Apollo @ Jun 24th 2009 5:05PM
Wow, and I thought I was the only one who liked it.
CJLopez @ Jun 24th 2009 6:08PM
its been confirmed to come along with the local multiplayer of echoes already
uncle jesse @ Jun 24th 2009 4:57PM
This is how you do it, Ninty. They never have cool packaging or do the 'Special Edition' thing. Nintendo should spruce up their classic franchises. I suppose the gold catridge was cool, but that's the only thing I can think of that was really neat for Nintendo fans.
SEVENim @ Jun 24th 2009 6:13PM
I bet they will eventually do some sort of special edition pack in thing for super mario galaxy and the sequel.
Phange @ Jun 24th 2009 5:01PM
Obviously fake. Nintendo wouldn't misspell "Echoes" on the front cover.
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Jun 24th 2009 5:02PM
Do not like it, but I will buy! Should have been all black with the 8 bit samus looking forward like when she beams down from the ship.
Nigeria @ Jun 24th 2009 5:03PM
I was so hoping for them to bundle these games having so much about them - especially the first one. Never really expected Nintendo to deliver though.
Now maybe I'll discover whether my blind fanboy argument - Halo 1 >Metroid 1- from yesteryear were in anyway correct.
Mr Khan @ Jun 24th 2009 6:19PM
If you're talking about Halo vs Metroid Prime 1, then no. No game beats Metroid Prime 1. Ever. Halo vs the original Metroid is more arguable, since the latter borders on the boundary of too damn hard, between the lack of any sort of central map, and the fact that many areas looked exactly the same, to the point where you could get utterly and untraceably lost.
Nigeria @ Jun 24th 2009 7:23PM
Yeah, I was referring to Metroid Prime on the Gamecube. I guess I'll see about that 'No game beats Metroid Prime 1. Ever.' soon enough.
You've peaked my interest about the original Metroid now.
bm @ Jun 25th 2009 5:45AM
As long as you don't play MP1 (or 2) like an FPS and start judging the game on its battle tactics or some nonsense. That's what I've seen too many people do and it's missing the point by effing miles. It's the gameplay of Super Metroid, but in 3D. That's why it'll always be infinitely superior to Halo.
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jun 24th 2009 5:05PM
strange, theres no link to fact check this post...
funk_dat @ Jun 24th 2009 5:07PM
Damn, I was hoping for an excuse not to buy this, but I can't resist! Must have!
knighty (GT: ZeraKnight) @ Jun 24th 2009 5:09PM
Personally I think it's one of the worst box's I've ever seen, but whatever.
knighty (GT: ZeraKnight) @ Jun 24th 2009 5:13PM
Looking at it some more, that's certainly a fake. The misspelling of echoes (mentioned above) makes it fairly certain, and the back of the box in general looks like it was made by someone who just did their first Photoshop filters + stroke lesson.
nightmare452 @ Jun 24th 2009 5:17PM
Amazon has the same picture up, and I saw this way before this was posted anyway, and I don't believe amazon would post a pic of a game from a random photoshopper.
Its the real deal, they'll fix the mistakes later I bet.
knighty (GT: ZeraKnight) @ Jun 24th 2009 5:19PM

Check out the top right. Very sloppy mock up if it is real.
CrossTheAtlantic @ Jun 24th 2009 5:45PM
Yeah, I don't think it's real either. Look at the corners. That shit is pointy. What cheap 3d render was making this?
And the back totally does look like Lesson 4 from Learn Photoshop in 30 days.
sam @ Jun 24th 2009 6:03PM
@Cross: Pre-release box images are sometimes done with a rendering program - it can be easier than photographing a real box. (I didn't even look at the images, so not making a judgement on whether these are real or 3d.)
knighty (GT: ZeraKnight) @ Jun 24th 2009 6:07PM
Since when did he say it wasn't a render? Of course it is.
Nook @ Jun 24th 2009 5:20PM
cool, i can't wait. love the prime series, echoes is quite possibly my favorite game of all time - great difficulty level.
launch day purchase for me, despite already owning all three. wiimote controls, can't wait.
GewurztraminerX @ Jun 24th 2009 5:24PM
I am a sucker for spiffy boxart... plus I've never played the games. All the better.
Captain Planet @ Jun 24th 2009 5:29PM
Pretty sexy for a Wii game box/cover.
Einhanderkiller @ Jun 24th 2009 5:29PM
This makes up for the horrendous Metroid Prime 3: Corruption box art.
HappyFunBall @ Jun 24th 2009 5:36PM
Count me in.
I never got around to getting MP3, so I'll pick up this spiffy collection instead.
TrumpetDan @ Jun 24th 2009 5:40PM
First day purchase for me!
I enjoyed the first Prime game, and have played very little of the 2nd & 3rd ones. But what I did play was fun.
Nice deal really, especially with an artbook.
harusame @ Jun 24th 2009 5:45PM
And still no EU release date. Why can't Nintendo pull off simultaneous worldwide releases like most other publishers?
Fab @ Jun 24th 2009 6:02PM
Bold near the bottom of page 1:
http://www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/downloads/Q3_2009_Release_Schedule_UK.pdf
WPstart @ Jun 24th 2009 6:04PM
The EU release date has already been said. The date is Sept 4th 09.
mr mobius @ Jun 24th 2009 6:51PM
So they release it on my first week back at university? Amazingly bad timing. I guess I'll just wait and unless Galaxy 2 comes out at Christmas, then it'd be a great present.
Mr.U2 @ Jun 24th 2009 5:54PM
Sooo.... Joystiq, who sent this to you? Nintendo? Because I can't believe they would let a simple typo like "Echos" go like that.
Rob @ Jun 24th 2009 7:48PM
Spell Check is our friend!
MrRoboto1990 @ Jun 24th 2009 6:42PM
So, any news on how this interacts with Corruption?
I'm only 35% of the way through it. I don't want to buy this and have to start over.
relaxeder @ Jun 24th 2009 7:17PM
That looks sweet, I want to get a Wii just to play these.
