Mythic and BioWare rolled into one, Mythic's Mark Jacobs departs
EA is mushing up Mythic and BioWare into one team led by BioWare's General Manager, Ray Muzyka. The new "RPG/MMO studio group" will have BioWare's Greg Zeschuk as the "group creative officer." Mythic's General Manager, Mark Jacobs, who oversaw the less-than-successful Warhammer Online, has apparently been shown the door. Rob Denton, who was the chief operating officer at Mythic, will now become general manager and report to Muzyka.
Upon contacting EA, BioWare and Mythic, we were informed that a formal announcement would be made later in the day. We'll update as we hear more.

I wish their first announcement would be Mass Effect 2 also for the PS3. :)
Heavytoka @ Jun 24th 2009 3:59PM
That would be nice
waynski1457 @ Jun 24th 2009 1:03PM
This makes me simultaneously more excited and worried for SWTOR.
Still really wanna give it a try though.

Man, it's just a Mashup Wednesday isn't it? First id and Bethesda, now Mythic and BioWare. I mean, they were both under the same umbrella before, but now they're EXTRA best buds. Ohh, well. I just hope Mythic doesn't put their dirty little hands into the Old Republic pot....
sonicspike41 @ Jun 24th 2009 1:44PM
Too bad it's not monday, then we could have:
Mashup Monday
Terrible Tuesday
Wacky Wednesday
Thundering Thursdays?
Freaky Friday
Sarcastic Saturday
Sneaky Sunday
Misframed @ Jun 24th 2009 2:23PM
I prefer Thong Thursdays (just not on me)...
CaveDan @ Jun 24th 2009 1:10PM
Here's hoping the merger kills off Old Republic. *cheers*
saregos @ Jun 24th 2009 1:30PM
Uh... why?
Even if you don't want to play it, it's pretty vindictive of you to want to make it so nobody else can either.
Samael @ Jun 24th 2009 1:13PM
Hope this is not the start of the fall of Bioware, I love that company.
Nightbug @ Jun 24th 2009 3:05PM
I feel sorry for Bioware.
Huey2k2 @ Jun 24th 2009 1:18PM
I wonder what this will mean for Warhammer Online.
Dirty @ Jun 24th 2009 1:22PM
Lightsabers?
Ghen @ Jun 24th 2009 3:52PM
Hopefully nothing if Bioware wants to win over fans for their new RPG.
guises @ Jun 24th 2009 1:22PM
Just because "RPG" is contained in MMORPG, doesn't mean that they have _anything_ to do with one another. Completely different beasts.
EA has effectively just killed big budget RPGs on the PC. Bioware was effectively the only company left making them. It isn't a surprise, this is what EA is about - they see MMOs as a recurring revenue stream, so they dump all their resources into maximizing their short term profit. To hell with substance.
Samael @ Jun 24th 2009 1:25PM
atleast Dragon Age is coming out from Bioware :D
joshua.nash @ Jun 24th 2009 1:32PM
this will either be a really good thing or a really bad thing, but i have no clue which
Kristian @ Jun 24th 2009 1:48PM
Here's your clue. EA is involved. It's not a good thing.
finnith @ Jun 24th 2009 3:13PM
Get with the times, Activision is the evil corporation now! EA has already proven that they can do good things, just look at Dead Space, not to mention all those EA Partner's games.
Skypp @ Jun 24th 2009 1:53PM
This article is for all of you guys that said EA would leave Bioware alone and keep it independent.
Squoze @ Jun 24th 2009 2:08PM
When high hopes and bad experiences meet, the end result is extremely depressing.
j0e @ Jun 24th 2009 2:21PM
wow, as a former employee of one of those two companies, all i can say that this is craaaaaaaaaaazy. good luck to all of the employees, hopefully no one (other than jacobs) gets shafted.
Misframed @ Jun 24th 2009 2:27PM
Bioware appears to be left untouched (besides adding Mythic's staff members)... it's Mythic that seems to now be dead...
Johndoz @ Jun 24th 2009 2:30PM
Judging by what EA did to Earth and Beyond...
Say goodbye to Warhammer and TOR
compuguy1088 @ Jun 24th 2009 2:32PM
Out of curiosity, what will this mean for the mythic developers in Fairfax, VA? Is that going to stay open as a part of BioWare?
j0e @ Jun 24th 2009 2:43PM
I hope so because there is a lot of talent at that studio regardless of the somewhat unsuccessful Warhammer Online.
Nick Mosedale @ Jun 24th 2009 2:52PM
Will it blend?...
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 24th 2009 3:09PM
As long as the guys in charge of bioware are still in charge that's okay with me i guess
acme @ Jun 24th 2009 3:30PM
biothic inc.
mythware LTC
i like it.
Trulz @ Jun 24th 2009 3:52PM
I don't see how this a good thing in any way, but I guess it isn't terrible?
The whole EA/Bioware thing has been better than I ever imagined. If they can just get Mass Effect 2 out of the door without the inclusion of EA Traxx I'll be completely on board.
BEGUILER123 @ Jun 29th 2009 4:34PM
I see it as a good thing, even though warhammer wasn't as amazing as it was hyped up to be i feel that this is a good thing for bioware with all of mythic's mmo making experience over the years and bioware's amazing rpgs i think it will be a great mashup and create some excellent games in the near future. It's also smart on EA's part financially because then they would not have to open another CS department up at bioware, they could utilize the already in place CS department at mythic entertainment.
