I've had this game unopened in a box for months now, is it worth playing or should I trade it to my cousin for Prototype?

Trade. Confrontation is a trainwreck from what I hear. Prototype and Infamous are much more imminently must-play-able titles.

They are COMPLETELY different videogame experiences. I love inFamous, but once you're done, youre done.

SOCOM, you can play for hours and hours for months on end.

Prototype is one of the worst games I have ever played. Socom is great.

hmm, i just recently got socom for free in a Home scavenger hunt. this is pretty great news. the players are just so intimidating, though. everyone is really focused during a game.

just play a respawn or unranked room for awhile to get used to it, most players are actually pretty mature.

oh, i definitely don't question the maturity of the players. in fact, i think the community is actually really great. i will try out an unranked match though, just to get used to the mechanics.

Yeah, it is a bit daunting at first. But I started playing it just recently after not even playing an FPS on a console at all for probably a month (360 died too many times, so I finally got store credit and picked up a PS3 lol. SOCOM was one of the first games I got, since it looked like a great tactical shooter.) and I was able to pick it up no problem. I'm still not great, but I can hold my own and all that in ranked matches. The players really are a lot more interesting to play with as well. Most of them get more into it than the Halo and COD players (run and gunners, rather than tactics and strategy).

Like the other guy said, jump into some respawn enabled matches first so you can get used to the controls (they are definitely different, but easy once you get used to them) and how the game plays. Give it a few days of that and you'll be ready for the big time in no time :) It didn't take me long to get into the groove, and I hadn't even played a SOCOM game in my lifetime, much less a shooter on PS3 (or any other system) other than a few rounds of Killzone 2 against bots.

This is one of the reasons to own a PS3 constant support of brilliant games, when I hear of news like this it makes me think why don't Microsoft just give up the console race as PS3 has clearly won this generation.

ive loved socom since the ps2 days, but lets not get carried away. Confrontation is no where near being a 'brilliant game'. And the constant support was becuase they released a completley broken game. It has only recently gotten to the point at which it should have been at launch. And with 7 maps and no single player mode it makes you wonder how they could have shipped such a pile of trash.

@ Heavytoka, I would keep the game. Prototype has been getting average reviews but SOCOM is finally at a solid state.

The only things holding this game back are the bugs and a few other things like all of the propane tanks in Desert Glory.. If they fix the bugs and get rid of some of the explosives and make some minor changes to the game then this game will be close to my favorite online MP game of all time.

They need to make a Ranked suppression because no respawns suck.

GTFO you NOOB! That's the Socom legacy RESPAWN is obsolete in the game. It's only there to warm up, and fool around.

Socom is all about team work. That's why you only have one life per round. This isn't another respawn shooter.

don't get your hopes up 1.5 has already failed q&a numerous times. 1.5 has been in the works for months. i hope it comes out it would be nice to have a complete game even if it is 8 months after the initial release.

It's much better than it was at release.

It still needs User Created Ranked Rooms, however.

The community can be a bit rough at times. But it's definitely worth the money. Plus, you get an amazing headset.

Glad to hear they're still supporting this game.

I've not yet played it yet, I just wish I had more free time.

Great, great game - Very under rated for it's worth. It's different when you first play it, and the controls are different from the typical "socom: 2 feel" but if you loved Socom: 2, then give this game a shot. Just be sure to change your controls to the old style, like in Socom 2.
I personally think this game is the best game I have played in a while, and for the PS3. (Call of duty has really boring game modes, and resistance got pretty boring)

This game is a little slower, and your character doesn't take as many bullets as the typical Halo/Resistance/Call of duty super soldier. But if you like realistic games (aside from people looking around corners..=/ ) then this game is definitely worth a shot.

The people who say "lmao socom sucks dick" are 5 year old kids who can't stand waiting for the next respawn after they just got their ass beat. This game is for mature people who can handle waiting after they die like a bitch.
