Battlefield Heroes now open to the masses
We're so excited that we can finally share our love of Battlefield Heroes with the whole world. The casual, free-to-play shooter has (finally) gone live, and you can start outfitting your soldier right now.
While the game itself is free, if you want to level up faster, get special emotes and exclusive weapons, you're going to need to shell out some cash. But there's no need to worry about that at the moment -- just go, start up an account and feel free to swap your usernames below.

well, I guess that tip I just sent in is pretty redundant
Masker @ Jun 25th 2009 5:10PM
Have trouble getting game.
Mind putting steps for noobs like me?
Masker @ Jun 25th 2009 5:26PM
nvm
Shit its 4 Gigabytes.
Kevin949 @ Jun 25th 2009 5:10PM
game was fun for a while. I just lost interest about half way through the beta through.
Tom18230 @ Jun 25th 2009 5:58PM
Me too. The fact that you have to rent clothes and weapons for ridiculously high prices put me off. Everyone looks like clones unless you rent the unique weapons and clothes, which is a complete rip-off.
BananaBoat @ Jun 25th 2009 8:11PM
Thus is how they make money. It's a big step up from the micro transaction model of some korean MMORPG's though (I'm looking at you: Mabinogi) that require you to pay money if you want to experience the story of the game, or level your character.
I'll be giving it a try later tonight probably.
Kevin949 @ Jun 25th 2009 9:40PM
@tom
Well, I don't think it's a ripoff. A lot of what bananaboat said is pretty true. It has to make a profit somehow, otherwise it's just not feasible.
Just be ready to hear everyone cry about snipers being overpowered in one fashion or another.
heyo007 @ Jun 25th 2009 5:14PM
heyo007 (surprising, I know) is my user name in case anyone wants to add me as a friend or play. I'll bring Peanut Butter Sammiches... :)
DaveMcRae the Haiku Artist @ Jun 25th 2009 5:16PM
It is time to fight!
All in your browser and free
Battlefield Heroes!
Kevin949 @ Jun 25th 2009 5:18PM
Not really. There's still a 4 gig or so install to go through. But at least you can run it windowed! But it's not necessarily "in your browser" it's just launched from there.
DaveMcRae the Haiku Artist @ Jun 25th 2009 5:23PM
curse you, facts!
Shagittarius @ Jun 25th 2009 5:20PM
An error occured: Could not find build.
ANyone else getting that when the install begins?
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jun 25th 2009 5:21PM
same here D:
I think this is DICE's payback for all the shit I've been talking about Mirrors Edge
SuiXide @ Jun 25th 2009 5:27PM
I had the same issue. Try clearing your browser's cache, and be sure to log in at the top before you try to start the game.
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jun 25th 2009 5:28PM
oh, I have to create an account first? I'll try that
thanks for teh helpz
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jun 25th 2009 5:39PM
working now
MoptimusSlime is the name, pwning joo is my game
Billy @ Jun 25th 2009 7:14PM
Yeah you have to register first. What horrible design on their part. They should tell you that, or not even give you the download page until you have created an account. I couldn't figure it out either until you guys commented here. LAME, EA!
Nadril @ Jun 25th 2009 5:43PM
Finishing downloading/installing now. I'm Nadril in game, probably will be playing a black nazi commando. (I find that odd that they allowed you to do that, haha).
DarkNessBear @ Jun 25th 2009 5:52PM
Cannot connect to any game... what's the deal?
Shmil @ Jun 25th 2009 6:09PM

jam @ Jun 25th 2009 6:11PM
i tried installing it when i wasnt logged in and i got an error message. BUT when i logged on and tryed installing it again i did not get an error message the game is currently installing as i type. not even half way there(about a a little past a quarter) and its been 5 - 6 minutes
Nadril @ Jun 25th 2009 6:22PM
Alright just played the game, it's pretty terrible so far I think. It doesn't really feel balanced or make much sense (ok, so my commando can go into stealth for as long as I want, but sometimes people see me and sometimes they don't? I assume other commandos can see each other, but why can other people see me?) and once I started seeing people do some stuff that they apparently got from leveling up I was done.
Really it just feels like a mess, I'd much rather play something else than it. Maybe it's just not for me... I don't know.
Levi (God Hand Defense Force) @ Jun 25th 2009 9:23PM
The stealth has a range of 15m. If an enemy gets within that radius, they can see you. It took me a while to figure that out.
nick @ Jun 25th 2009 6:24PM
I wanted to play this game, but could never get it to connect.
Levi (God Hand Defense Force) @ Jun 25th 2009 6:45PM
Unbelievable. Some fucker took Dolopo Bongato. In that case, my name is DolopoBongato
sorensilk @ Jun 25th 2009 7:02PM
I was a part of the beta and it's quite fun once you start really getting into it. My username is sorensilk if you want to play sometime.
Ratchet @ Jun 25th 2009 8:18PM
Wait... didn't I make you rage-quit earlier today? :D
sorensilk @ Jun 25th 2009 8:36PM
Nope. I wasn't playing earlier today. And I NEVER rage quit. I'm very laid back. ;)
Jrod @ Jun 25th 2009 7:17PM
Pretty cool to have a full game like this that's free for everyone.
Thumb up!
Mark @ Jun 25th 2009 8:17PM
To clear up a point in the OP, weapons are "bought" using what they call "Valor Points", which are earned while playing the game (winning rounds, getting assists, etc).
The game doesn't ask you for money for items that will give you an ingame advantage over someone else. The only things you have to pay real money for are cosmetic accessories and boosters.
Ben Montgomery @ Jun 26th 2009 12:45PM
Benvincible!
See you there!

Dr. steve brule @ Jun 26th 2009 3:03PM

Skull_Duggery @ Jun 25th 2009 11:09PM
Ummm...yeah...if by "released" you also include "only in certain locations," then great. We over here in Asia will join you all at some time in the future. :-(
BC @ Jun 26th 2009 3:48AM
I wouldn't get too worked up about it not being available in your country. It's crap.
The game, of course, not your country. I'm sure it's lovely.
Dr. steve brule @ Jun 26th 2009 3:03PM
btw name is ronald0raygun, add me as well
