We're so excited that we can finally share our love of Battlefield Heroes with the whole world. The casual, free-to-play shooter has (finally) gone live, and you can start outfitting your soldier right now.
While the game itself is free, if you want to level up faster, get special emotes and exclusive weapons, you're going to need to shell out some cash. But there's no need to worry about that at the moment -- just go, start up an account and feel free to swap your usernames below.

Me too. The fact that you have to rent clothes and weapons for ridiculously high prices put me off. Everyone looks like clones unless you rent the unique weapons and clothes, which is a complete rip-off.

Thus is how they make money. It's a big step up from the micro transaction model of some korean MMORPG's though (I'm looking at you: Mabinogi) that require you to pay money if you want to experience the story of the game, or level your character.
I'll be giving it a try later tonight probably.

Alright just played the game, it's pretty terrible so far I think. It doesn't really feel balanced or make much sense (ok, so my commando can go into stealth for as long as I want, but sometimes people see me and sometimes they don't? I assume other commandos can see each other, but why can other people see me?) and once I started seeing people do some stuff that they apparently got from leveling up I was done.
Really it just feels like a mess, I'd much rather play something else than it. Maybe it's just not for me... I don't know.

The stealth has a range of 15m. If an enemy gets within that radius, they can see you. It took me a while to figure that out.

To clear up a point in the OP, weapons are "bought" using what they call "Valor Points", which are earned while playing the game (winning rounds, getting assists, etc).
The game doesn't ask you for money for items that will give you an ingame advantage over someone else. The only things you have to pay real money for are cosmetic accessories and boosters.

Ummm...yeah...if by "released" you also include "only in certain locations," then great. We over here in Asia will join you all at some time in the future. :-(

I wouldn't get too worked up about it not being available in your country. It's crap.
The game, of course, not your country. I'm sure it's lovely.
