While expanding the unrelenting grasp of World of Warcraft to home consoles would undoubtedly net Blizzard an extra googolplex subscribers, there's a number of hurdles keeping MMOs from succeeding on non-PC platforms -- hurdles that were identified by Blizzard's executive VP of game design, Rob Pardo, in a recent interview with IndustryGamers.
Some hurdles are self-evident, such as the lack of a "keyboard and mouse" input device, and the massive amounts of storage space required for most online games (WoW is up to 10 gigs). Some have to do with the policies of the hardware manufacturers themselves, such as Microsoft's lengthy certification measures which would make WoW's frequent patches a nightmare to publish. However, according to Pardo, Microsoft has asked Blizzard for MMO advice, and has shown the company "some stuff they have in development." Halo MMO re-confirmed! (No, not really.)
Pardo's MMO outlook for the current generation of consoles is poor, but he thinks the next round of hardware is more likely to get it right -- at which point, people will be able to play WoW on any platform they want, and pretty much everyone will stop leaving the house. Hooray?

Microsoft and Square Enix had endless disputes about Final Fantasy XI 360, so Microsoft hasn't had the best history with these kind of things.
Sony obviously has the edge of help from SOE.
Nintendo's still struggling to get basic online functionality working, though an MMO was basically the only online game of the GameCube era, it had nothing to do with Nintendo themselves

You are joking about Wii right? Wii is too underpowered to support MMO. Lack of harddrive and old age memory/graphics would kill it. I am not sure why someone would mention wii for MMO like WOW or even FFXIV. PS3 and Xbox 360 can handle it for their graphics, keyboard/mouse and harddrives.

Wait, you mean I can't Use my console to pay every single month for a game that never ends and I won't be able to compete with losers who have no life? what ever will I do??

I dont usual post on here, i just read it, but i felt i had to say this. Motion controller for Sony in particular, but could work with wii or microsofts, + MMO like wow with new controls and better graphics = your pretty much in the game using a sword/shield to kill other players. Who needs a keyboard then?

Yeah, that's EXACTLY what WoW would need....console players. It'd surely be the thing to bring up the average quality of the player base.

I think what's holding back Blizzard is that really, WoW is a painfully complex game from a console standpoint. Dozens of powers that would be obnoxious to map to a controller, a lot of modal windows, lots of numbers and stats to track. (And yes, you could include keyboard support, but nobody including Sony would ever allow Blizzard to make it REQUIRED.)
You could always do a straight port but the first time someone asked you to get on Vent ("since in game voice sucks") or asked if you were running RaidHelperModule.4 or .5 and you had to say "oh I'm on an Xbox"... well, it could be done, I'm sure a lot would enjoy it, but it would always feel like the neglected stepsister of the WoW family. And Blizzard has a real issue with putting out something it feels is sub par.
So I suspect they'd want to build something from the ground up, ready to take advantage of all of a consoles strengths. Maybe a little simpler, or maybe just a little more oriented to couch style play. Probably a bit prettier at this stage too.
Its entirely possible that their doing so as we speak. I just don't ever expect a straight WoW port. As popular as it is, 5 years in is a little late to be doing it anyhow.

Face it! Consoles just can't handle teh clickan and teh brain dead AI-in, and the general grind-grind-shallow-combat-auto-fighting of such a "deep" game as WoW!

I wish SOE would bring the mmorpg Everquest to the PS3...I would freak out and run around the house like crazy.

@Kael: I have a comfy computer chair, so I don't know what you are talking about. Also, I had a friend with his PC hooked up to his 47" LCD in his living room.

Has everyone already forgot that the 360 has a keyboard already? It doesn't exactly come with the console but it wouldn't be that hard to package it with the game.
The messenger keypad doesn't exactly sport a full range of keys, but it definitely has plenty of buttons for WoW.

Can you just imagine having to buy the game, then pay MS money each month to go online with the xbox and then pay even more money each month to blizzard to play...PS2 game Champions:Return To Arms is very similar, kinda like Diablo II but better graphics and FREE...completely FREE....

Blizzard can't charge a monthly fee if they put it out on a console so why the hell would they do that?
