According to Peter Edward, director of PlayStation Home for SCEE, PlayStation Home has gained 7 million users worldwide, with 3 million in Europe alone. That certainly sounds like an accomplishment -- but with over 21 million PS3s sold worldwide, that number reveals that fewer than one third of PS3 systems have connected to Home. That's a surprising figure, considering Edward calls Home "the starting point for PlayStation 3 online."
There are a number of factors behind the PS3 community's slow acceptance of PlayStation Home. A long-delayed launch was marred by infrequent updates; the service received a mixed response from hardcore gamers. Since then, Home has expanded quite significantly, with the promise of more to come. Edward told Gamasutra that we can expect "more games [to] support Game Launch from within Home" in the future.

Yes, and will do many times in the future.

I haven't got a ps3. but even though the idea doesn't appeal to me, I'm sure I would've had a look at least.

Every time I try to get in to home I get kicked off, so I haven't been able to get beyond character creation :S.

I tried out Home when I got my PS3 just to see what it was, but I too found it pretty uneventful. The fact that EVERYTHING required an extra install was pretty annoying too.
Consequently, I think I've used it twice lol. Probably going to remove everything I can about it today.

Been to home a few times and really don't understand what Sony have in mind, don't have any idea why anyone would ever visit it?

I think the poll here is a bit flawed... it should read:
Have you logged into HOME?
Yes: And realized it's utterly pointless...
No: I realized it was utterly pointless connecting to it...
and lastly
I don't own a PS3: But don't let HOME stop you from getting one, there's good stuff on it.

I connect to Home from time to time to check out what's new, but really, if Sony decided to abandon the whole idea I wouldn't care.
I think, like many, I was initially intrigued by the idea, quickly disappointed, soon completely bored, eventually a little annoyed and now entirely incredulous.
The less said about those people who have actually paid for content on Home the better.

Since Home is blocked to several regions (depending on the country you specified on your PSN registration), I'm not surprised.
Over here in Israel we can't even log on to a store to download demos, we have to create separate PSN accounts stating a country that does have access to the store just so we can try games before we buy them...

Probably because home sucks. THe character creator is so lame. THey force you to look like either Neko Case or Conor Oberst (sp). Sorry, but I don't have a faux-hawk nor do I wear tight black jeans and lowtop chuck taylors.

I told my girlfriend about it and she got excited. I let her use it and after 10 mintues she said "OK, this is lame. I'm done." She loves dressing up avatars and shopping for stuff. Hell she loves soul calibur because she can make all her characters "pretty". If you can't capture her, then I don't see how you can capture the male semi-hardcore gamer audience.
I've logged into it a few times, and all I see is a bunch of guys crowding around a girl in the town square hitting on her, not realizing she is probably a dude.

I don't live on Home but I surely check it out at least once a week. I enjoy being able to be on my PS3 without having to blast someones face off in COD. I watch Blurays, browse the web, and when I want to chat it up with other gamers I go on Home. There are a lot of really cool people I have met on Home and my friends list has at least 10-15 more people just from meeting them on Home. I met people that had an interest in some of the games I owned, tv shows I watch and overall things I enjoy.
Home is not perfect for everyone but it is far from a failure, log in at any time of the day and I bet you will find people on bowling, playing pool, chess, dancing, sitting and chatting, in fact there is lots of chatting, buying virtual items, and having fun. The only thing I can say I never see is game launching, people will try to start but nobody ever follows. Sony is doing a good job reaching to another market, and more revenue is not a bad thing.

The statistic I want to see (but that will never be released) is the number of unique users who have actually logged onto Home over the past 30 days.
I logged on once back at wide release...and never again.

In January, Sony said that there were 17 million PSN users world wide "http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/14/psns-17-million-statistic-includes-ps3-psn-official-forums?icid=sphere_blogsmith_inpage_joystiq". So let's say that each PS3 has an average of 1.5 users per system (a guess). That means that all individule's has users combines are 11.3 million.
So what am I getting at here? That means 62% of PS3 owning individuels have logged on to Playstation Home

I've logged in a few times... but just to see what it was all about... In short: it sucks, at least for me. I don't find anything interesting about it. Yet, when I went in, I saw quite a few a people around, and they seemed to be having a good time, so... I guess to each its own... just not my type of thing.

Agreed - I've logged into home once when it first launched. It looks quite nice but is pretty pointless to me - I love gaming and often having gaming sessions with my mates, be it on xbox or PS3.
I can see why they thought Home would be a good idea, but it just seems like they put too much effort into it in my opinion.
Games are FTW!
