When Raven Software's long-in-development Wolfenstein (remember when it was an Xbox 360 timed exclusive back in 2005?) finally hits store shelves this August, it'll mark the end of an era ...
... oh no! Not of Wolfenstein games – there are plenty more of those coming – but of outside developers working on id Software's hallowed franchises. John Carmack told Joystiq today that bringing external development back in-house at id is "exactly what's going to be happening." Carmack says that while id's had some hits (Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory springs to mind) and some misses (Enemy Territory: Quake Wars springs to mind) the externally developed titles haven't "had the same record that our internally developed titles have." We'd have to agree with him there.
With the lead team cranking on Rage for EA Partners, they created a second development team to work on Doom 4, with a still-formative third team currently toiling away on Quake Live. "We'll have three teams," Carmack told us. "We'll have Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake, and Rage and one of them will be taking a vacation each cycle and that will depend on what we want to be doing each time." So don't worry, you'll have plenty of all of the above to go around.

And what the fuck does this have to do with id Software?
This shouldn't even be covered by the "real" media as much as it is, don't bring this celebrity worship bullshit to the vidya.

I'm upset that your original post is so off topic my jokes are going to get deleted along with it. At least my comments had some connection to VGs ultimately.

Interesting. Sounds almost like Carmack is thinking long term with the Rage franchise... he must be confident in it's success. I also like the whole cycle system, where one franchise will sit a cycle out. I'd love to see a company like EA adopt that same model for it's sports franchises. Each year, a different sport "sits out". But for EA, considering how big the company is, they could maybe cycle another sport in. Maybe a CFL game one year, or Rugby, or whatever.

Also, despite it's off topic-ness: I'm sad to hear of the loss my Michael Jackson. Despite all the tabloid media garbage, I hope he's remember as the true entertainer he was and all the great music he brought the world. He died before his time.

Humor is a way of coping with death. Even if the person who died was a celebrity. Tell me did you have any nice remarks when you heard that Anna Nicole Smith died? This is a video game blog, if you want to celebrity gossip go to TMZ.
For fucks sake people, this isn't news, I'm sure its all over CNN right now like Ledger's death. The king of pop is dead and 20 years too late.

@Shmil, the arguement that humor is a way of coping is completely wrong. I'm sure when someone you care for dies, you won't be cracking jokes within a few hours of hearing about it.
You are right, this is a gaming blog, and maybe it's not the right forum for this kind of discussion. Clearly, with idiots like Shagatarius around, there is a lack of maturity in dealing with "real world" situations.
And your comments about him dying 20 years to late shows that you are nothing more than a heartless bastard who needs a reality check real soon.

People like Shag and Schmil are like Perez Hilton: to validate their own existences, they must shit on others. It's like how some messed up kids will torture puppies: it's cruel and serves no actual function, but to hurt those puppies somehow mitigates their own pain. As children cartoons have proven, the cool kids are apathetic jerks, which is why people try to act as douchey and apathetic as they can.

So the people complaining about the celebrity gossip are compared to one of the biggest douches in that field? That makes perfect sense. The reason I wish Jackson died 20 years ago? That way we would've remembered him at his peak rather than the creepy pedophile that the media turned him into.

That's great. I think Raven did a decent job with Quake 4, and hopefully Wolfenstein will be awesome, but nobody does id's games like id does.
And yeah, sad news about Michael Jackson.
