Sir Howard Stringer has big plans for PSN. He said as much last month, commenting that as long as PSN is tied solely to the PS3, the network would never be able to reach its full potential. It's set to reach for the stars in Spring 2010, apparently, as Kaz Hirai recently commented to CNN.
"It's now a matter of what all the services need to look like for each device, and coming up with a rollout plan," said Hirai. "It's like city planning here, and we can start small. We don't need to build New York City overnight." And the update isn't just cosmetic, as Sony is looking to create a much more open and easier to use service that will bridge all of Sony's devices. Among the proposed improvements are better displaying images from a camera on TV, watching and editing video, sharing content with friends, and storage.
Another interesting thing mentioned is the prospect of rewards for brand loyalists. Sony supporters with multiple Sony products could receive perks such as discounts and even premium services. It seems like a solid plan to us, but we'd suggest rewarding the people who play PlayStation Home first.

Why is he talking about all this other stuff? Just give us cross-game invites, voice messages, and a party system you jackass.

Too slow, Sony. Too slow. Again.
There is no Playstation Network. There is just the internet, because that's what the PSN is. Nothing is seamless, everything is separate and you have to launch it independently.
When you launch the NXE you go right in to the network. Everything is integrated into the UI. New movies or demos released? There they are. New community announcements? One click away. etc.
On PS3. New game demos or movies. Launch the store, check for new releases, download to drive ...
Community news? Launch the horrible information board and go to the web site. Or launch the browser and go find it yourself.
Community news, events, official videos are accessible from the NXE interface with one click. You don't have to find them. They are integrated. Until the PS3 XMB starts having full integration with the PSN it will never be as good.
Like Home. Something else that you have to launch and has little connection to what is actually on your PS3. That may as well be running on a PC.

Where's Sprinkles? Figured I'd see his inane ramblings here. Maybe he got the perma-ban?
One can only hope.
I'd call him a fungus but that's unfair to the fungi of the world.

When PSN can download demos, movies, and other content in the background while playing games and watching movies, call me.
It gets boring sitting and waiting for something to download, and yet you can't do anything else.

With everything Sony has their hands in I am surprised but not really that there is not a music "store" on the PSN or why they have not integrated the video and game sections into the mall on Home. 2/3rds of the mall is empty and one "store has the window dressing but no content. Nice
If Sony actually integrated all their products then added the store feature to then that would be revolutionary for Sony especially if this was at all product levels and nit just the higher end and ES stuff. However I would not be brand specific on the stores. So I could actually browse everything and what they offer may sway my opinion on purchasing a product. For example on the PS3 I can see all the movies and games for the PS3, PSP & PS1 but on the PC and PSP all I get are the movies and PSP & PS1 offerings. Via a store update and firmware update I should be able to browse the store and download the content whatever it is and if it is for PS3 it should be placed in a cue so when I do start/log in on the PS3 part of the start up is to check the cue and download those products I have chosen in the background.
Just saying. I remember back in the day when Sony was the electronics giant wizard that came out with new cool stuff now it is more like the crotchity old man who does care. Wait is Sony now the GM of technology? Overpriced products that are half a$$ed and not what the people want. Can you say GO and uninspiring firmware updates.
