eBay is running another one of its daily deals, this time offering 12+1 months of Xbox Live Gold membership for the very reasonable price of $27.99. Compare that to the full price of $49.99, and we don't have to tell you how appealing this deal is. So, if you're going to take the plunge, act now. The deal ends Jun 28, at 8AM PDT.
[Thanks, Bikram!]

Count THIS Jerk Face in! I've been paying the 20 bucks every three months.

Wouldn't it just be better to pay the $50?
$50 for 12 months = $50/yr
$20 for 3 months * 4 = $80/yr...

To get an extra 8% off use bing.com (making it $25.75 total).
1. Go to bing.com and search for "wii"
2. Towards the top you'll see a link for 8% cashback on ebay
3. When redirected to ebay, just search for xbox live 12 months and buy the one listed here at $27.99

These are almost gone, btw people. 1000 out of an original 5000 left as of about 5:20pm EST.
Also note that buy.com will likely have them on their website for the same price (minus the 8% from bing.com) on Monday.

Yea. Obviously the 12 month is a better deal, but when it comes down to it, 50 > 20, and not everyone can make the most of all 12 months.

Wow, I tried to buy it using my Visa Gift Card, and it told me that the payment was declined. I checked my account and it had almost twice as much money...but PayPal had deducted $3 for "authorizing" it. I've heard so much about how PayPal sucks, but I've never had the displeasure of dealing with them myself until now...buyer beware. =\

F**k LIVE, I'm tired of giving these jerk offs my money. I was going to renew, but I'm just going to let my GOLD expire, I hardly play on it anymore, since there are so many free services that allow me to play good Multiplayer. What the hell is it about LIVE anyways that everyone says it's the best? I haven't noticed any differences that make it any better than any other online service.

Incoming wall of text...
It depends on how you play your games. If you're just going it alone and jumping into random games then XBL doesn't really offer any advantages.
But, if you're going for social gaming or trying to play with friends, the lack of cross-game invites, voice messages, and a party system are utterly crippling on the PSN. XBL just makes it so dang convenient and a 2-second process to get into a game with all your friends without having to plan it through some other means ahead of time.
I guess I'm just still a bit bitter in knowing that I would have probably played a ton more KZ2 and MGS4 online if their online systems weren't so damned archaic. And of course the PSN was absolutely no help without cross-game invites or a party system or anything like that. It would be a huge PITA to get a room up and going with just a big group of friends, to the point where we'd actually have to plan out a time or something ahead of time and all try and work our schedules around it to get it to happen. On XBL, no pre-planning necessary, just boot up and within seconds you can have a room full of friends with a couple button clicks.
Let's say you could have a Ford Focus for free or a Porche 911 for $2000 per year. Someone that doesn't really care much about cars or driving fast can take the Ford Focus for free and be all the happier that they're saving an extra $2k per year. But for someone that does love cars and driving fast, a paultry $2k per year for a Porsche 911 is the best deal in the world for them.
That's why it's cool that we have a choice, and there isn't a right or wrong one, just one that better fits each individual. For me, with the way I play games online, $27 per year for XBL is a million times better deal than getting something that's 1000x more of a PITA for me for free. For others that aren't going to use those extra features, free is better.
If you already have a PS3 and you don't use any of the 360's extra features, then it makes sense for you to save the $28 bucks/year and just play on the PS3 instead unless you want to play any of the 360 exclusives online.

Live is only worth the money is you use all the extra features. It's sort of the same argument with the value of the PS3's hardware and the extra features you get. Blu-Ray, Wi-Fi, Free Online Play, Web Browser, Blue Tooth etc etc are only worth the extra coin if you use those features. Same argument goes for Live. If you just want to play online then paying that $50 bones a year is a probably a rip off. Likewise, if you don't care about all the bells and whistles why pay $400 bones for a PS3 when you can get an Arcade for half?
At their core they function exactly the same.
This is an admittedly inept comparison that doesn't account for all factors (certainly better than the car analogy - lol - that was way off)
Let's say you are attending a seminar and have the choice of upgrading your lunch or you can take the lunch included in the cost of the seminar -
One premium turkey sandwich meal has applewood bacon, stone ground mustard on ciabatta bread, evian water, bag of terra chips, toblerone for dessert and costs $8 while the other turkey sandwich has plain bacon, french's mustard on an all wheat hoagie, no bottled water (they have pitchers), plain bag of ruffles chips and a snickers bar for dessert at no additional charge.
At the end of the day they are both turkey lunches that will fill you up - one is included in the cost of the seminar (PSN) and one is an optional add on (360) that has higher quality ingredients. Those ingredients are only better to you if that stuff is important to you at the additional cost.

I built my PC (including 22" 1680x1050 LCD monitor) for $700 USD. It's got a Core 2 Duo E7300, nVidia GeForce 9800 GT, 4GB of RAM, DVD +/- burner, and a decent mobo, case, and power supply to support it all.
So I guess it would take a brand new 360 and 8 years to equal the same price (assuming the same cost for the game itself), except I can use my PC for a million other things.
Nonetheless, I'd rather not pay a subscription fee for something I can get for free somewhere else. Though I guess it might be worth it for TF2 at least, in comparison to the garbage PS3 version of Orange Box.

Just FYI to all those that missed the boat.
A year of live is normally $50. On amazon for $58 (8 dollars more) you can get a 12 month live card, an extra wired headset, a chatpad controller accessory, and a full retail version of Project Gotham Racing 4.
I did this recently, as my headset was broken. I gave the chatpad and PGR4 to my brother.

Yes that could be a good offer to people as a back-up. It would be $58 plus tax if you get charged tax from Amazon in your area, so roughly $64 total shipped. But you then then resell the chat pad, the game, etc and recoup some of your money back if you didn't want those items.
Best Buy was running XBOX Live 12 month cards for $39.99 each last week, so keep an eye on them, they may run that again, which isn't $27.99 but still at least some type of savings.

If Joystiq is going to post an article, at the very least, can't they research it and find out the validity of the item? The Live cards were NOT 12+1, they were simply the 12 month cards, same as what was offered a week or so ago on eBay from eBay seller "Buy" which is Buy.com, they just aren't allowed to use the .com in their name when selling on eBay (terms of service rules). I suspect we will be seeing Buy.com offer this a few more times this year, most people were surprised they offered again so soon after offering it before.
Plus when you use Bing.com, when logged into eBay, you get a percentage back to you instantly, currently 8%. I had bought 5 of them originally a week or so ago when they offered it for $27.99 shipping, when there was a limit of 5, and the instant cash back was $11 on a $140 order. Not a huge savings, but a savings regardless and it's instant, no waiting.

If anyone is still interested, they will probably have it at this price from the actual site www.buy.com tomorrow(Monday) it'll be at same price without the benefits of the 8% bing and 8% coupon. Still a good deal.

A decent mouse, keyboard, and speakers could easily boost the price by $50. An OS would add significantly more.
