Halo-themed Avatar clothing spotted in the wild
Select individuals have been seen sporting Halo-themed Avatar clothing recently, with fine young gentleman Randy No Arms being the latest spotted. It makes sense, considering the guy works for Microsoft, but are these new duds a part of the Avatar rewards beta, or is this the Avatar marketplace at work? Regardless, we're totally jealous he's sporting a slew of Halo-branded clothes, including a hat emblazoned with the UNSC symbol, a shirt with a pair of crossed energy swords, and a nice pair of khaki shorts with the Spartan helmet on the left leg.

I just hope the little ODST uniform we saw is an unlockable and not something you buy
RedSonRising @ Jun 27th 2009 8:59PM
hopefully the 'best' avatar gear will be attached to some really great achievements. it cant be too hard to unlock cool stuff but i dont want to see everyone running around lookin like master chief lite all day..
Richard Christy @ Jun 27th 2009 7:23PM
is this what video games have come to...? we now gush over stupid shirts for your stupid little avatars?
Luis @ Jun 27th 2009 9:14PM
Yes.
Blah @ Jun 27th 2009 10:30PM
we gush at more things than just that just so you know
knuckles_006 @ Jun 27th 2009 7:13PM
how come the plasma grenade doesn't stick to the thrower's hand.
Tyler @ Jun 27th 2009 7:16PM
tru dat
MetalBLACKFOX @ Jun 27th 2009 7:31PM
The green switch located on the grenade when pressed right before thrown activate the grenade, which visually shows the glow you see,the "stickiness" or "organic magnetism" as i like to call it is delayed for approximately .3 seconds so it does not stick to the thrower..When thrown if contacted to a person or object suspected to hub an enemy or on some cases a friendly spartan explodes after the friendly beep that notify s contact.

This is ridiculous charging for this stuff- i understand unlocking a golden mp5 strapped to my avatar back for beating mile high clup on veteran but no moola out of me for anything with the word avatar on it...
unless they are willing to sale the "ghost rider" fire hair for my avatar hmmmmm
Cj @ Jun 27th 2009 7:20PM
320 points for a toy virtual warthog? GTFO
T @ Jun 28th 2009 6:07PM
No kidding. To put that in perspective, a DLC song for Rock Band is 160 points.
Which means for the price of TWO songs (which actually have some user value), you can get a stupid little accessory for your Avatar.
It was inevitable they were going to charge money for stuff, but this much? HAH!
Dowse @ Jun 27th 2009 7:39PM
The only thing i'd ever buy is if there was some clothing incredibly similar to things i wear. Otherwise its pointless.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Jun 27th 2009 8:01PM
yea to echo everyone else, i think paying real money for virtual clothes is stupid too, but you have to realize, we (the informed gamer) probably aren't the target consumer. think about it, people pay for gamer pics all the time. and even worse, people pay for wallpapers and themes on PS3 when anyone can make a theme themselves or set any image as wallpaper for free.
i know you won't see my avatar wearing any of these clothes unless they are unlockable through achievements or something, like they should be.
sp23hagbard5 @ Jun 27th 2009 8:15PM
bullshit
just look at second life or even closer "home": people are crazy for this kind of stuff
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Jun 27th 2009 9:04PM
and that's why it's their cash cow. moo y'all, moo.

Halo brand extortion at work.
It figures some of the first clothes you can buy are Gears and Halo themed... Rabid fans paving the way to this ridiculousness being acceptable?
Not a SINGLE cent will go towards this obnoxious money grab.
As a person who pre ordered Windows 7 and waited in a line to get the Xbox 360, I am absolutely apalled, disgusted, and quite frankly, offended that they are going to expect me to pay to "clothe" my avatar.
And please, no one tell me that no one is making you buy this. I know. Unfortunately, it is borderline impossible to play your 360 without "Download X today!" or "Watch X on XBL Marketplace!" I loathe logging into the dashboard, and the funny thing is I can't even boot into the games channel and boot on Live automatically, I have to boot into a stupid adverchannel.
Textbook definition of a company shoving it's products down your throat. But go ahead, just don't buy it, right?
acme @ Jun 27th 2009 8:24PM
everytime ms tests some crazy sheem to make money, they use halo.
RedSonRising @ Jun 27th 2009 8:55PM
Just tell me when and where i can get Bayonetta's heels for my avatar and im good..
im cleanin out the avatar store day 1: f* sales, clearance racks and marshall's discounts, im ballin out.. unlockables are great idea, especially for the cheapskates out there that cant bear to part with a dollar or two during a recession..
$300 console, $60 games; i think everyone here can afford an 80m$pt tshirt..
Sly @ Jun 27th 2009 9:06PM
those clothes don't look half bad. i would wear the hat and the shirt for sure. but those shoes with those clothes... eww...
Rhamsey @ Jun 27th 2009 9:28PM
oh, i really want this to be in affect now.
yolarrydabomb @ Jun 27th 2009 9:47PM
Ridicules, I rather photoshop my avatar!
LuiginDaisy @ Jun 27th 2009 9:55PM
Maybe the gamerscore can be put to use, like "You need 1000 G to have HALO SHORTS."
I like halo, but I hate buying clothes that I'll never (get to) wear in real life.
Kev (XBL: ksiddique) @ Jun 29th 2009 1:23PM
Excellent idea!
Premature ejaculation man @ Jun 27th 2009 10:08PM
Fuck this. I'd only become interested if there were games that used avatars well enough that I'd want to wear cool stuff.
Seriously, its been nearly a year since avatars have been released and the amount of games is pitiful.
oOWallaceOo @ Jun 27th 2009 10:24PM
Hi! I like shorts! They're comfy and easy to wear!
K1LLER HORNET @ Jun 27th 2009 11:10PM
something tells me that the pricing on this is gonna be even more extortionate than that of the Premium Themes.
Hypernike @ Jun 28th 2009 12:25AM
LOL @ oOWallaceOo for Pokemon reference, love it!
John M. @ Jun 28th 2009 1:52AM
I certainly hope that other companies don't get ballsy and figure a tee shirt with a logo on it is worth a dollar+. I'll likely be dumb enough to buy couple items, only because I got a lot of points cheap.
Gary @ Jun 28th 2009 2:42AM
I'm sorry, but didn't Major Nelson say ad nauseum that avatar clothing "is, and always will be free." ???
RedSonRising @ Jun 28th 2009 7:28AM
no. there were scheduled free releases to establish the program but they never said, promised or implied the program would be free forever..
mv209 @ Jun 28th 2009 3:21AM
If you spend money clothing your avatar, then you need to spend a little more time in your life.
ill trooper @ Jun 28th 2009 3:34AM
Microsoft: the idea is here is the avatar, something to represent you in an online or virtual situation... So why stop at t-shirts? I can wear a t-shirt in real life. Get more loose with it, MS. Let the Halo fan have a cool cartoony Halo armor suit or dress up like one of the aliens. Let a Call of Duty player have a uniform option, camo with a kafeyah, etc... But t-shirts?
Lame.
Cal @ Jun 28th 2009 3:38AM

RedSonRising @ Jun 28th 2009 7:51AM
do we know anything more about unlockables and the avatar store yet? should i just be happy we know its being beta tested or should i expect more teaser shots for the next year?
Brian @ Jun 28th 2009 11:24AM
cant wait for a Weighted Companion Cube costume for avatars...
Lilpunkduck @ Jun 28th 2009 12:25PM
Well im going against this and saying dependant on what there is I could easily spend cash on this, to make my own little outfits and such. Currently I have different outfits, (the swimwear, cowboy, biker ect) and could easily see myself having halo armour, now yes halo shorts and tshirts may seem abit much but it makes sense starting with the most popular franchise. My only =[ is the fact we wont be seeing gold lancers for avatars because that would be giving them weapons, and thats not good for a family friendly look. Still will be cool to play the avatar racing game in custom cars and clothes
xraybravo @ Jun 28th 2009 1:20PM
theMicro transactions is why I completely left son'y's home app ( and the fact that it was a sausage factory ) but hey Microsoft you listening? we pay you $50/yr for this crap. deliver on it.
Alex @ Jun 28th 2009 4:03PM
I haven't changed the clothes on my Avatar since the day they came out, and I actually hat the whole Avatar/Mii thing.
http://avatar.xboxlive.com/avatar/TelepathicGoose/avatar-body.png
It's supposed to be Agent 47.
T @ Jun 28th 2009 6:12PM
I can never understand the driving force for people buying clothing, pics, themes, etc through the marketplace. Inevitably something else comes down the line and you'll want that instead.
The only difference between reality and avatars is that you can't sell BACK the crap you don't want anymore.
Bunny Xbox @ Jun 28th 2009 7:31PM
I cant find the Avatar marketplace in Canada :(
djbuhhda @ Jun 28th 2009 8:19PM
its not out yet thats probly why.
Johnny Neat @ Jun 29th 2009 8:42AM
This is a cool in some small gesture kind of way, but where are the Master Chief suits or Gears of War Cog uniforms. Those are the outfits I'm eagerly excited for. Although I have abandoned Gears online for too many reasons, I'd jump into a cog uniform asap. Plus suits like the Spartans should allow for helmet on or off options. Come on bring it MS!
The only thing that is going to annoy me is that they will actually charge us to promote them, which is weak.
