I Got Next gives inside look at fighting game tourney scene
25
If the world of professional Street Fighter-ing is a nebulous mystery to you, it may be time to get a clue from an excellent piece of research material -- indie graphic designer/filmmaker Ian Cofino's recently completed documentary, I Got Next. The feature-length film went live on UFragTV last night, and is expected to be widely released via torrent in the near future. For a bite-sized sampling, check out the trailer above.
For a still-harangued-by-student-loans amateur filmmaker, it's a really nice production -- one that gives us insight into the minds of a quarter-circle-punch obsessed populous we've never really bothered to study. Oh, also, it contains the music of The Go! Team, which is scientifically proven to make anything it touches a million times better.

You mean they didn't use the KRS-One album "I Got Next" as the film's soundtrack? That's a pretty big oversight.

I got next was when a WHOLE bunch of us guys were at the bowling alley playing mortal kombat 2. the next opponent would place a quarter on the screen and there would be like 7 quarters across the screen and we all would know who would be next to play.

Noticed that, I love their music, but the Go! Team is pretty cool too.
I think I may have to watch this movie just for the music selection now.

Obviously.
More importantly, I noticed the distinct lack of witty analysis or deep thought:
"Basically a fighting game is two players fighting against each other, one on one. So you wanna beat the other guy."
Hm..
Way to take something that on the surface looks boring as hell, sound... ahem, boring?

You're an idiot. Wherever there's game's being played there's a lack of girls... including wherever you are this very moment.

I love documentaries about sub-cultures. Also, The Go! Team makes it even more appealing.

Too true. Glad to see Joystiq shouting out some love for the Go! Team. I almost rented the Wii Cheer game as it had Huddle Formation in it. Oh Harmonix, please grant me my fondest wish of a Go! Team RB pack...
