I think they should release a PSPhone and the PSP "2" at the same time to satisfy both sides of the consumer spectrum

In many ways this is a game of catch up that Sony can't win - the iPhone is already too prevalent and dominant. It's not like the iPhone has diverted money away from regular video gaming, it's just another thing that the mainstream have latched onto to spend disposable income on.

if it wasnt for cfw the psp would be a big let down i mean it does everything if they come out the gate with a psphone that supports that kind of app/hombrew scene i think it could compete very well with the iphone and maybe the psn will be a real network someday and phone service will be one of there services not much diffrent then apple and at&t they could sell psn cards in stores that work as phone service so you could pay by months or whatever. the psp could be a gaming device first and a phone second

Come on here is the Sony plan. Sucker people into buying the $250 GO in October offer a price break in after March 2010 (end od the Sony Fiscal year) and sell more product to clear the shelves. E3 2010 Kaz walks out on stage GO V2 with a slight improvements in the processor and ram department 32G internal memory, M2 expansion slot, touchscreen, gps, etc shows off the dual sticks and axis controls then the thing rings on stage and reveals it is a phone with a $500 to $600 price tag. Since this Sony the service plans are still int he works so no pricing is available until like a month or two before release which is October 2010.

Now if Sony offered it as either a contract or a pay as you go that would be alright for me. Then there is the 2 year wait on a texting update that will allow you to text not only other phone but people in you PSP/PS3 friends list (you know the one that should have been there at launch).

I'm looking for a new phone. Doing some research on Sony Ericsson and they have the Xpedia X1. It has about a fourth of all the iphone's features......for 800 bucks. That one phone shot any interest I had in getting a Sony phone in the face. I can imagine what this PSPhone would cost.

With the way Sony is pricing things recently. I would say a Sony Ericsson phone, with built in PSP features would be around 400-550 USD. Just a guess though and at that you can bet Sony won't do to much talking about it.

This just in - Sony releases the price of the new PSP/Phone. It's $899.99. When reached for comment regarding the price, a spokeperson for Sony said "yes, its a little much, but people are willing to pay a premium price as, afterall, it's a Sony product".

PS - That's a joke in case you're wondering.

Too bad they weren't considering an iphone competitor when they gutted that Sony Ericsson phone design for the body of the PSP Go. $249 for a PSP with less functionality than the already released hardware gets a "No Thanks" from me. A $300+ PSP that's exactly the same as the Go but with a phone? Absofreakinglutely.

What is wrong with Sony's R&D department? Are they stuck two years in the past?

Interesting, hopefully the screen will be above 3.5 and less than 4. Anything more and I wouldn't call it a phone, or a Iphone competitor, portability is of vital importance. Maybe this means upgraded processor of the alright but slow 333Mhz on the current PSP's.
