Sign up for Tropico 3's closed beta revolution

Being El Presidente of a South American country is an exclusive club. With that in mind, Kalypso Media is currently taking applications for players interested in Tropico 3's closed PC beta. Despite what you've been led to believe in recent years, a beta is not a demo, and your job is to actually help test the game and report bugs.
Those interested in helping make the banana republic simulator the best it can be, can head on over to the Haemimont Games website and fill out an application. The actual testing begins July 13. Tropico 3 is expected to start a revolution on PC and Xbox 360 this September.

Xvnine @ Jun 27th 2009 2:36AM
@Link408
Where was I for 1 and 2?
Alex @ Jun 27th 2009 2:38AM
What? You never heard of Tropico? 1 was an awesome game, 2 was meh because of the pirates thing.
Alex @ Jun 27th 2009 2:40AM
Also it's not a Cuban Life Simulator, it's a dictator simulator kind of like SimCity but with more power over the people and it's set in Latin America.
Lucky @ Jun 27th 2009 8:31AM
Pretty much the only case in the history of the universe where adding pirates was a bad thing.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 27th 2009 10:04AM
I too have never heard of this series, but if it was primarily a PC franchise before this one then that would explain why.
Unsigner @ Jun 27th 2009 3:20AM
And to make it clear: while the game will be released for Xbox 360 and PC, the beta is PC-only.
Monkeydog @ Jun 27th 2009 3:20AM
Oh, I really can't wait to play this game. Even if PopTop isn't making it.
The first two are two of my favourite games, and I'm so glad to see this one is going to go back to what made the first one so great.
Von Dozier @ Jun 27th 2009 3:23AM
Tropico 1 was fantastic.
Tropico 2 was terrible.
Ryan @ Jun 27th 2009 3:59AM
Awesome. I signed up. Thanks joystiq.
This will be my 4th beta if I get a key, the first 3 being the call of duty 4 + 5 and Bad company
Veko @ Jun 27th 2009 5:34AM
Signed up for the beta. Thanks for the heads up, Joystiq. I actually have the first game still installed on my machine.
Damn Dirty Ape @ Jun 27th 2009 9:17AM
I hope they have the same composer doing the music. The previous games had some of the catchiest tunes I've ever heard in a video game. I think I still have the soundtrack to Tropico 2 in my computer somewhere.....
Gnoll @ Jun 27th 2009 9:21AM
The soundtrack to Tropico was one of my first internet purchases. I still play it in my car all the time.
Part of me wants to be really excited about this, but part of me feels that everything that needed to be done was done in the first one. Still, I'm excited to see the franchise come back, I'll gladly try it.
Branc @ Jun 27th 2009 9:46AM
Well, I think this was developed by the developers of the first, so we'll see.
Jcarpio @ Jun 27th 2009 10:11AM
So as someone not familiar with the series. What kind of game is this? Syndicate-ish? GTA?
LaughingTarget @ Jun 27th 2009 10:17AM
It's mostly SimCity with a deeper resource management system as well as having to keep your people happy to avoid revolution or foreign takeover by either capitalist or communist forces.
Jcarpio @ Jun 27th 2009 11:30AM
oh.. thank, that's not good for me then.. SimCity is an addiction, I don't need more. So in otherwords, I'll probably buy it
Lucky @ Jun 27th 2009 1:45PM
Keep your people happy OR scared shitless that is.
LaughingTarget @ Jun 27th 2009 10:16AM
I was once a Presidente of my own banana republic, until those imperialist dogs invaded my island and took it from me. Now I can have my revenge in 3D.
GiggMan @ Jun 27th 2009 11:02AM
At first I read "Sign up for Trico closed beta" only to be disappointed.
bimmerfreak0 @ Jun 27th 2009 10:43PM
nobody cared
Veko @ Jun 28th 2009 12:09AM
Hey, thanks for wasting your's and my time by posting this comment. It really expanded my understanding of the topic at hand. I had no realization that you, bimmerfreak0, didn't like Tropico 3. Without your mind-blowing revelation you have presented here, I would have not had such a life altering experience as your dislike of this game.
Again, I thank you for wasting my time. May you triumphantly wave this flag of dislike for Tropico 3 as you progress into the future by following this path.
DirasyajX @ Jul 2nd 2009 2:13AM
