Crafter offers Haggle Man buttons for Retro Game Challenge purchases
We've humbly requested that our readership purchase a certain title to ensure the development of a sequel many times before (picked up your required 15 copies of Gitaroo Man yet?), but rarely does our fervor for a video game series build to a level that inspires us to offer actual, tangible rewards for your compliance.
We suppose we've never loved a game as much as craftwise classic gaming fan Benjamin loves Retro Game Challenge -- he's offering a cross-stitched Ninja Robot Haggle Man button to anyone who purchases a new copy of the game. Just send in your receipt, and he'll pay the shipping. As he sees it, its his only way to get XSEED to localize Retro Game Challenge 2 -- we usually just send developers large sacks of money to accomplish such a goal, but we realize that's not always possible for -- ahem -- blue collar types. Good luck, Ben!
[Thanks, Michael!]

That's pretty cool. I wish I had the willpower to do something like that.
Sly @ Jun 28th 2009 9:10PM
i wish i had the money to do that.

this man... is genius. and yes, we do need a gitaroo man sequel, or a "spiritual successor" with similar gameplay.
Levi (God Hand Defense Force) @ Jun 28th 2009 9:08PM
Wow, that looks really good. Too bad I bought my copy back when the game was first released.
Sly @ Jun 28th 2009 9:12PM
buy another one! give it to a friend, a family member, a random person, your pet, etc. or you can save it and sell it in 25 years as a collector's item. the world is your oyster.
Shoyz @ Jun 28th 2009 9:13PM
I wonder if a picture of you holding the game would work. A receipt is kind of a hard thing to keep without knowing these things before-hand.
To be honest, I thought this was an official pre-order offer for the sequel. Those look professional!

I just bought this game this week, though it was on ebay, so I guess he wouldn't count that.
Either way, it's quite fun. Even though I am absolutely terrible at shmups, just like Arino, and I don't care for JRPGs; I'm having a lot of fun with the whole atmosphere of everything.

For anybody that got a used copy:

He's selling them on his shop for $5. Not sure if that includes shipping, though.
So tempting..
Shoyz @ Jun 28th 2009 9:17PM
It doesn't.
2 dollar shipping.
So $7 for one of these buttons. Not a bad freebie if you can find a copy of this on sale , even if you already have one.

Rad I have been trying to remember the name of this game all week! Now I have even more incentive to buy it!
ignfan69 @ Jun 28th 2009 9:31PM
Man this game is awesome! I am praying for a sequel!
ZaxCG2 @ Jun 28th 2009 9:55PM
I bet this guy might start to regret all the game-media attention he's getting.
>:D I'm buying the game now.
Elranzer @ Jun 29th 2009 12:08PM
Any attention brought to Retro Game Challenge is a good thing. XSEED needs to localize the sequel.
Mr Khan @ Jun 28th 2009 10:34PM
I wonder how many he'll end up making
alakazam9891 @ Jun 29th 2009 12:34AM
wish I still had my receipt ;-;
Gnoll @ Jun 29th 2009 12:39AM
Forget Retro Game Challenge 2, I just want Fuji TV to find someone to release the Gamecenter CX DVDs in the states. I would pay good money for several Haggleman buttons regardless, but I would buy even more if someone would just hurry these DVDs up. Thanks to Arino, I now put SEX as my arcade initials every. single. time I get a high score.
ignfan69 @ Jun 29th 2009 2:30AM
Man, I never heard of this till your post. The series looks awesome. I hope I am well aware of its US release when that beautiful day comes.
Gnoll @ Jun 29th 2009 8:25AM
You can find some episodes on youtube if you want to see how great it is ahead of time.
ugg.tryptophan @ Jun 29th 2009 10:40AM
at first i thought it was hattori-kun
TrumpetDan @ Jun 29th 2009 10:53AM
That button is sweet.
For anyone who owns a DS, this is a MUST-HAVE game. It really is quite fun. I hope they localize that sequel soon!
Elranzer @ Jun 29th 2009 12:07PM
Retro Game Challenge was extremely well done. It's a shame that many didn't buy it. I hope that XSEED bothers to translate the sequel. It would be another gem in a sea of shoverlware for the DS.
Sasha N @ Jun 29th 2009 3:53PM
This is one of the best games to come out on the DS and it is an absolute shame that the sales numbers have been low. I hope the sequel comes out stateside but I am not keeping my hopes up. Too many great Japan-only releases on the DS!

Funny, I got to the Haggle Man challenges and then decided that I had no interest in buying the game. It's cool that they have games that are a lot like older games, but Cosmic(I don't like Galaga) and Haggle were not very good clones in my opinion. I think if I had the ability to try the other games without having to play all 5 challenges in ones that I don't like, I might have found something to like.
