EA reveals Battlefield 1943 release date [update]

Interestingly, the game description no longer lists a PC version, making the delayed iteration of Battlefield 1943 that much less of a possibility -- a strange one at that, considering the franchise's PC roots. Either way, those of you that snagged codes for the game back in early June should start getting ready for battle by talking to our friends in the JPAG and setting up a game night. Talk about two tastes that taste great together.
Update: DICE producer Gordon Van Dyke said today on EA's UK forums that "We are close to confirming our dates (Xbox 360 date & PS3 date), but still need to settle a few minor things." Looks as though the release date listed in the newsletter is still unconfirmed, unfortunately. Sorry, folks -- and thanks to everyone who sent this in!
[Thanks, Iain!]

I'm hoping the release will be worldwide, but knowing Sony, we Europeans will have to wait a month or six for it to come out here.
centrinoduo91 @ Jun 28th 2009 5:10PM
yeah...
the truth sucks :(
we have to add 3 months on to every date given XD
MrKlorox @ Jun 28th 2009 6:28PM
You're joking right? The game is developed BY Europeans. It's simultaneous worldwide release. Perhaps one day earlier on 360 since XBLA games are released on Wednesdays and PSN games are out on Thursdays.
Billop @ Jun 28th 2009 6:45PM
@MrKlorox
your kidding? LittleBigPlanet and Killzone 2 were both developed by Europeans and Both were released in the US first
Kyle Nichol @ Jun 28th 2009 7:04PM
I can't think of a single PSN game Sony has released worldwide at the same time. Hell, we've yet to get Tekken 2 as a PSone Classic after it was released in Japan and America TWO AND A HALF YEARS AGO. It's so bad, it can't be typed without capitals.
Copland @ Jun 28th 2009 7:17PM
Who knows ?
Most foreign stuff (U.S & European games) get delayed in Japan,
but with BF1943, its coming out on July 9th here too.
So you might get it on July 9th too.
Keep your fingers crossed ;)
MrKlorox @ Jun 28th 2009 7:28PM
Well, regardless, this game is worldwide simulrelease. At worst with a 3-day span.
It's okay that you don't know since you don't keep up with all the BF1943 info... but it is. Stop worrying.
MrKlorox @ Jun 28th 2009 7:30PM
Crap. nevermind that last comment. forgot about the digital-only aspect for a second. This means it will be same day, with one in between 360 and PS3 due to release schedule pattern (Wednesday vs Thursday). If you people want to make yourself worry unnecessarily, by all means feel free to do so. Just know you don't have to.
David @ Jun 28th 2009 7:41PM
@Billop: Are you kidding? I dont know about LittleBigPlanet, but Killzone 2 was released the 25th in Europe, and 27th in US and UK!
Kyle Nichol @ Jun 29th 2009 4:02AM
Where did you hear it will be a worldwide release? Is there a press release for it?
MarkHawk @ Jun 28th 2009 5:06PM
Oh great... After the 4th of July weekend... After my friend gets sent to Germany for more training. Damn it! :( Why would you release it after a Holiday weekend!
SpaceFox @ Jun 28th 2009 5:09PM
LOL. This is wrong. Way to go joystiq... ever read the EA UK 1943 forums?
Ben Gilbert @ Jun 28th 2009 5:26PM
I've been looking for it online for a bit now, actually. Is there some sort of a hard statement you could point me to, SpaceFox?
Ben Gilbert @ Jun 28th 2009 5:44PM
Updated. Sorry! You can understand how we might be confused after EA's Official Newsletter has information regarding a release date and it's not listed as incorrect anywhere on a whole mess of Google searches. Anyway, the piece has been updated with appropriate information, though I'd still bet the game hits right near that date. :P
SpaceFox @ Jun 28th 2009 5:44PM
Why sure thing Ben. I contacted you guys with this information but I don't think you've seen it yet, so...

SpaceFox @ Jun 28th 2009 5:45PM
Same minute post, lol.
SpaceFox @ Jun 28th 2009 5:50PM
Hey Ben, the post you linked to in the update isn't the post I was referring to that stated that EA was incorrect. This is what I was talking about:
http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/10010946-post15.html
GordonVanDyke directly commented toward the EA newsletter there, saying it was incorrect. The post you linked to on the EA UK forums wasn't a direct response to the newsletter...
MrKlorox @ Jun 28th 2009 6:31PM
Yeah, Space Fox's link is more accurate and clears up more details.
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 28th 2009 5:15PM
I'm not a PC guy, but this doesn't seem fair to their fans.
MrKlorox @ Jun 28th 2009 6:06PM
What doesn't? The fact that they refuse to make a port and instead insist on building the PC version properly?
Yeah... I'd pissed too. /sarcasm
Cosmo (formerly Chin-Poh) @ Jun 28th 2009 6:13PM
MrKlorox, are you sure that they won't just port the 360/PS3 version to the PC or make a version more optimized for the PC?
jynxycat @ Jun 28th 2009 6:29PM
Just play 1942, it's basically the same game, with worse vehicle controls.
MrKlorox @ Jun 28th 2009 6:31PM
@Cosmo: Absolutely. That's what the Dice dev team said. In fact I think it was Gordon Van Dyke who stated that. I'll try and find a link.
MrKlorox @ Jun 28th 2009 6:33PM
here it is: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/227219.page

Thank you MrKlorox.
Azbulldog @ Jun 28th 2009 5:19PM
The www.battlefield1943.com/E3Redeem now no longer even shows up and gives a 404, hmm.
djpenny1 @ Jun 28th 2009 6:08PM

RIP BILLY MAYS
Dethgar @ Jun 28th 2009 5:24PM
This is a PC player, not caring if the game comes to my favorite platform. This is a PC player, who is sick of WWI and II shooters.
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 28th 2009 5:37PM
This is a console gamer not caring what you have to say.
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 28th 2009 5:41PM
This is a console gamer wondering when there was a WWI shooter.
AustinAM @ Jun 28th 2009 5:57PM
@Leroy_Octopus
Obviously, you care enough to comment.
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 28th 2009 6:02PM
I know if I could edit the comment I would have just used the second one.
MrKlorox @ Jun 28th 2009 6:12PM
As an actual videogamer who thinks platform fanboyism is for absolute douches, the information was confirmed to be "unofficial" and potentially inaccurate. Just cause it doesn't list the PC game, doesn't mean it was canceled. And even if it wasn't, it would be released around the same time Bad Company 2 drops (for PC and consoles)... which is weird to release a competing product to the one you had JUST released. And as a BF fanatic, that just seems like it would split the userbase further.
RobLink (Alex Kidd incarnate) @ Jun 28th 2009 6:45PM
This is a console gamer wondering how many WW I games you've played to get sick if them, because there ain't that many of them out there.
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 28th 2009 6:52PM
the only WWI game i can remember is in The Darkness when you went to hell, which was WWI, only like, the guys had no faces and some were stiched together. And....other stuff
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 28th 2009 6:58PM
@RobLink You stole my joke and made it worse.
@Wayne I forgot about The Darkness.
Sly @ Jun 28th 2009 7:01PM
i want a civil war game. who's with me?
Sly @ Jun 28th 2009 7:02PM
call of duty: states at war
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 28th 2009 7:19PM
I want a Civil War game too. I'm looking forward to the minute long reloading animations.
Sly @ Jun 28th 2009 7:49PM
i know right? think of the epic online battles.
EVERYONE SHOOT! reload...
1 minute later
SHOOT! reload...
end of match - 12 kills 7 deaths in 30 minutes.
doesn't that sound amazing?
Dethgar @ Jun 28th 2009 9:20PM
I wouldn't, nor would I ever want to, be able to distinguish a WWI or WWII game. My point is: I'm tired of games themed on historical wars.
BUB @ Jun 28th 2009 5:35PM
this has to be wrong, psn only updates on thursdays the forums say its fake aswell
MrKlorox @ Jun 28th 2009 6:38PM
The 9th of July is indeed a Thursday though.
Dan the Man @ Jun 28th 2009 5:35PM
Can't wait!
MrKlorox @ Jun 28th 2009 6:55PM
Eh, silly comment system. Was supposed to go to previous poster.
SovereignSky @ Jun 28th 2009 5:58PM
I hope I can still remember where I wrote down the code frome early June for this game...
*shuffles through stacks of papers*
KP @ Jun 28th 2009 6:02PM
I'm pretty sure there's still going to be a PC version. It's probably not on the page anymore because it isn't due to release until this Fall.
MrKlorox @ Jun 28th 2009 6:05PM
GvD to the shoot-down immediately! He certainly does his job.
Cosmo (formerly Chin-Poh) @ Jun 28th 2009 6:15PM
See what happens when you pirate PC games you darn pirates? Developers and publishers may just stop bothering with games on the PC altogether, delay the PC version, or other nasty things.
Cosmo (formerly Chin-Poh) @ Jun 28th 2009 11:13PM
Why did I get downvoted!?
