Best Buy selling 80GB PS3 with LittleBigPlanet and Wall-E

Best. Bundle. Ever.
Seriously, if you haven't picked up a PS3 yet, there's no need to wait for an oft-rumored price cut. For $399, Best Buy's offering an 80GB PS3 bundled with a copy of Media Molecule's DIY platformer, LittleBigPlanet, and Pixar's cautionary environmental tale, Wall-E. That's about $90 worth of complimentary adorability -- an offer that we find difficult to pass up. Just look at those big button/robot eyes. How can you say no? Awwww.

I'm still waiting for a cheaper slim one.
johnson412 @ Jun 29th 2009 5:52PM
To be honest, when the Slim is released (and I fully expect that it will be), I think it will remain at $400, while the current 80GB "fatty" will be $299. Sony has shown with the PSPgo that they believe consumers will pay more money for a new, smaller model just because it's new and smaller despite the fact that it costs Sony less to manufacture. And to be honest, they're completely right; the general consumer believes that smaller electronics cost more, and this is the best way for Sony to increase its margins.
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 29th 2009 6:05PM
Huh? Why did ignfan get down voted?
Bagels: Commander in Chief of the lolcat sarcasm alert force. @ Jun 29th 2009 10:10PM
Because anyone who passes up
THE. THREE. BEST. THINGS. EVAR.
Is an ignoramus.
Cash @ Jun 30th 2009 12:07AM
I'm with IGNfan.... the hell is with bundling shit I either A: already own, or B: have no interest of owning, and telling me it "enhances the value?"
You know what would "enhance the value" in my eyes Sony? Lowering the BLEEPITY BLEEP price!
TrumpetDan @ Jun 29th 2009 5:50PM
Not a bad bundle really.
If I hadn't purchased my MGS4 bundle back when they were on their way out last year (couldn't pass up on the ps2 BC), I probably would be picking this up.
bluesky_v2.01 @ Jun 29th 2009 8:01PM
Pretty decent indeed. I got my PS3 a few years back (maybe less) for 399 without any games and a stinkin' Spiderman movie.
Longhorn of Myon [PSN: MariusElijah] @ Jun 29th 2009 5:50PM
I would buy this if I didnt own one
as for the best budle ever, that was last year
MGS4+80GB+BC+WalMart = Best Bundle Ever
whylekat @ Jun 29th 2009 5:52PM
What's BC?
f35acepilot @ Jun 29th 2009 5:53PM
BC = Backwards Compatibility (for PS2 games)
whylekat @ Jun 29th 2009 5:55PM
Does that mean only certain ps3's have BC then?
Sly @ Jun 29th 2009 5:55PM
yeah, it was the best bundle. i got it! and it came with a $100 gift card.
Cosmo (formerly Chin-Poh) @ Jun 29th 2009 5:58PM
Yeah, Sony has killed off backwards compatibility with PS2 games.
However, ALL PS3's play PS1 games through software emulation, even the older models.
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 29th 2009 6:03PM
Longhorn
Why does Wal-Mart make it a better bundle?
whylekat @ Jun 29th 2009 6:03PM
If you said "yeah" to me and If only certain ps3's have BC, then that's the dumbest thing i've ever heard.
Thanks fella's for another reason to NOT buy a PS3! Now while making my purchase I gotta check to see if it'll play all my classic ps2 games.. fffff that! They all shoud have BC standard!!
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 29th 2009 6:10PM
Or ya know Whylecat you could just keep playing your PS2 games on your PS2.
WiredKnight @ Jun 29th 2009 6:13PM
@whylekat
....are you serious? This is really the first time you've heard of this?
Sly @ Jun 29th 2009 6:20PM
@Leroy
like i said, walmart was giving away $100 gift cards with the bundle.
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 29th 2009 6:35PM
Okay Sly, but then shouldn't he have put $100 gift card instead of Wal-Mart?
fwacce @ Jun 29th 2009 7:28PM
whylekat = Sprinkles
Sly @ Jun 29th 2009 7:54PM
because walmart was the only one giving away gift cards. if he said gift card, that could be taken to mean that the gift card was part of the bundle everywhere. that's why.
Longhorn of Myon [PSN: MariusElijah] @ Jun 29th 2009 8:39PM
@whylekat
well as for BC maybe this will help
dont know if its true

whylekat @ Jun 29th 2009 9:00PM
@wierd knight
yes. First time. Since the PS3 has always been so pricey & I already own a solid Blu-Ray player, I never bothered to research dumb facts like this.
And @ that other joker.. Why would I want a ps2 & a ps3 hooked up at the same time??? That's such a waste of space! As soon as I got my 360 I boxed up my original xbox! BC should be a staple of any next gen system! 360 can play a HUGE majority of xbox titles, wii can play all gamecube discs. Ps3 fails again, unless of course you specifically buy a BC version, which is retarded. Should be standard!!
InFaMoUs1- @ Jun 30th 2009 3:14AM
whylekat just go.. *facepalm*
wienerdog @ Jun 30th 2009 10:00AM
That Walmart $100 gift card offer, combined with the Sony credit card offer that took $100 off the balance got me a 40 GB PS3 with GTAIV and a 2nd controller (Dual Shock 3) for a net cost of about $310. Beat THAT!
R @ Jul 2nd 2009 11:32AM
Yes, that was the best bundle of all time! You rock, Longhorn!
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jun 29th 2009 5:51PM
this confused me. The ads showed the bundle AND a TV so I just assumed you had to get both and said "Fuck that" and went back to reading Blondie
Latin_Trident @ Jun 29th 2009 5:51PM
nice bundle but no thanks. I'll take a price cut any day over a bundle that is still priced too high.
whylekat @ Jun 29th 2009 5:53PM
I agree. Especially when coupled with little kid games/movies.
johnson412 @ Jun 29th 2009 6:03PM
And then you'll set there with your non-bundled $300 PS3 with no games and no Blu-Rays asking yourself "Why did I buy this thing with nothing to go with it?" So you'll head to the store and buy a game and a movie, head back to your house to start playing, and then realize you just spent the same amount of money to enjoy the same thing 3 months after everyone else has moved on.
Congratulations on buying into everything the media keeps telling you to think rather than thinking for yourself.
GoldN @ Jun 29th 2009 6:00PM
"kid games/movies"
I'm sorry, but both LBP and Wall-E are for audiences of all ages. The depth of LBP's level creator goes far beyond what most children can produce and Wall-E was one of the best movies of last year. Just because they CAN appeal to younger audiences doesn't mean they ONLY appeal to younger audiences.
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jun 29th 2009 6:00PM

you shut your whore mouth about Wall-E and LBP
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jun 29th 2009 6:04PM
I'd love a $300 PS3, then with the remaining money I could pick PS3 games I want.
whylekat @ Jun 29th 2009 6:09PM
I already own wall-e on Blu Ray and I have zero intrest in LittePigPlanet. I want a game with a mature story & substance. Not thousands of sub-par user created platforming lvls. It's not fun when you have to rummage thru shovelware to find the gems. if that's what I wanted to do, I'd buy a wii for half the price =P
Sly @ Jun 29th 2009 6:22PM
LBP does have substance. and you don't have to "rummage". that's what the highest rated search feature is for.
el serpiente @ Jun 29th 2009 6:39PM
Oy, quit feeding the whyletroll.
Shattered-Minds @ Jun 29th 2009 6:57PM
and yet you keep coming back...
Latin_Trident @ Jun 29th 2009 7:22PM
well, a $100 price cut will go a very long way if you use it wisely. Going to sites like craigslist or ebay should get you a lot of stuff.
Here is an example of what you can get on ebay with $100:
Little Big Planet - $30
Blu Ray Wall-E - $15
New PS3 Controller - $40
Haze - $5
Uncle Buck DVD- $5
Now that is a good deal!
Cosmo (formerly Chin-Poh) @ Jun 29th 2009 7:47PM
Sprinkles, where have you been my whiny hypocritical friend?
Ashitaka @ Jun 29th 2009 8:42PM
LOL, Latin_Trident and whylekat just got pwnd
whylekat @ Jun 29th 2009 9:10PM
How exactly did get pwned? all he said was that it "has substance". No examples/proof. How involved is the story? Do you ever feel emotions besides cuteness when playing it? Does it generate any sort of tension or "stress" as you go thru the platforming? What if I don't think whatever is popular is cool or fun? Then how is that rating system for me?
I'm not saying it's a bad game, My point was I don't see LBP being at all a system seller! At best it's a novelty that should be $30 new and I'm sure the interest wears off pretty quick if the physics are as bad as reviews have stated.
If this same deal was offered with MGS4 & a good action/adventure title (or even something I didn't already own) then it might be worth it for me. But as it stands I agree with the earlier post about a price cut, I much rather take the $100 I'd save and make my own choices. I'd rather see this price bundled with peripherals.
peepoop @ Jun 29th 2009 5:53PM
You kids need to save up your allowance some more and stop complaining about the price.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Jun 29th 2009 6:01PM
Yeah, cause it's not like people need to spend money for other things like school, books, food, etc.
johnson412 @ Jun 29th 2009 6:04PM
That's hardly fair. Even at $300 the PS3 would be an expensive proposition in an economy like this.
Besides, how do you expect kids to have any "allowance" when their parents are unemployed? Not to mention the fact that assuming only kids are wanting to buy the PS3 is a bit arrogant, especially considering the majority of PS3 owners are males 18-35.
WREturns @ Jun 29th 2009 6:34PM
Or kids could do what I did when I was a kid and get off their ass and mow some fucking yards or wash some fucking cars.
CtrlBurn @ Jun 29th 2009 8:09PM
Yeah, I remember not having a job. That sucked. Now I have a job, and a PS3. Good times.
ECVOICE @ Jun 29th 2009 5:54PM
Still waiting for a price cut. Seen Wall-E 3 times already, so it's not a draw. And LBP looks fun, but not "you're still buying a system at full price, but getting LBP as a free game" fun.
Pass.
sony boy @ Jun 29th 2009 5:55PM
Finallly!!! Sony made a good bundle that doesn't have a really old game!!!
Cosmo (formerly Chin-Poh) @ Jun 29th 2009 5:59PM
I think its a Best Buy bundle, not an official Sony bundle.
Jarrod @ Jun 29th 2009 8:10PM
I work in the games dept. at Best Buy, and it actually is a Sony Bundle, all in the same box. It's just exclusive to Best Buy.
