Blame World of Warcraft for StarCraft 2's tardiness
We already blame World of Warcraft for most of the problems in the world -- loneliness, social atrophy and, generally, man's inhumanity towards man -- but now we've got another grudge to harbor against the MMO juggernaut: It delayed StarCraft 2 development for an entire year. That's 365 days of sweet, sweet strategy (by which of course we mean constant, unwavering zerg rushes) that we could have already been enjoying.
This startling revelation came to Eurogamer by way of Blizzard vice president of game design Rob Pardo, who explained, "A fair amount of the design team went onto World of Warcraft for a year to really help finish that game off." We guess that explains why Starcraft 2 took six years to finish. See, and here we assumed it was because they were all hopelessly addicted to WoW, not because they were actually making it.

I blame the Xbox 360 for the tardiness of Final Fantasy XIII.

I blame Square for that bud
They love hype
Even if they have to make people squirm to get it
Draco @ Jun 29th 2009 1:13PM
I blame the WOW for SC2's long development, but not because of the year that some staff were transferred over there... that only account for 1 of the 6 years on what should have been a 3 year project.
Mr Khan @ Jun 29th 2009 1:26PM
Exactly. No reason for it to take that long even then.
nemesis135n @ Jun 29th 2009 1:32PM
Reminds me that i have been waiting long. LoL. It also reminds me of my friend during graduation when he didnt get his diploma. Now he has to right a 10 page essay to get it LOL.

I now regret every month that I was subscribed to my account... well, I already did before, but now I really do.
Falcon6 @ Jun 29th 2009 1:41PM
Hrm...what about the other 5 years, though?
My guess? Naxx40, Sunwell, and Ulduar.
ImBakinBacon @ Jun 29th 2009 1:44PM
w/e, starcraft 2 will still be awesome

I blame WoW for a lot of things, including our current economic crisis.
Dirty @ Jun 29th 2009 1:54PM
and swine flu.
Old Professor Zertoss @ Jun 29th 2009 2:01PM
Exactly. Like we needed another reason to hate WoW.
The Pie Pieper @ Jun 29th 2009 2:06PM
WoW is the cause/solution to all my/the worlds problems
Brandon @ Jun 29th 2009 2:05PM
Also, I do recall an interview somewhere that said a large part of the reason it took so long to make Starcraft2 was because they wanted to do it fully 3D rather than pixel sprites, and hardware is only just now able to keep up.
Brandon @ Jun 29th 2009 2:06PM
well, maybe not pixel sprites, but whatever it was before
CottonRabbit @ Jun 29th 2009 2:23PM
Fully 3D RTS's existed before Starcraft II even went into development. i.e. Age of Mythology released in 2002. SC2 itself hardly looks like it'll be taxing on systems you can build for $500 today.
rTwelve @ Jun 29th 2009 2:34PM
2D sprites
still a pain though, they had to make a version of each sprite depending on which direction the unit was facing
tenor77 @ Jun 29th 2009 2:34PM
I blame WOW because they're obviously rolling around in the piles of money they made from it.
BigD145 @ Jun 29th 2009 2:52PM
Is this also why Ghost died?
3dpenguin @ Jun 29th 2009 3:11PM
Want to know what to blame for StarCraft 2's delay? The same thing that is to blame for Diablo 3's, Blizzard's lack of a release time tables and developmental priorities.
Oneiroi @ Jun 29th 2009 4:16PM
I blame Diablo 3.
Instead of focusing on one game and getting it out the door, they're going to wait forever to release two new games.
Foetoid @ Jun 29th 2009 9:53PM
Actually they're releasing one this year, thats not 'forever'. They've said there will be 1 big-release game every year now for the next half-decade. I think it will be:
2009: Starcraft 2: Terran Campaign
2010: Diablo 3
2011: Starcraft 2: Zerg Campaign
2012: Diablo 3 Expansion
2013: Starcraft 2: Protoss Campaign
2014: WoW 2
AtomicPlayboy @ Jun 29th 2009 7:50PM
I blame WoW for the sorry state of single-player,offline RPGs today. Sigh.
Dethgar @ Jun 29th 2009 8:28PM
NEWS FLASH: Blizzard likes teh monies!!11 Also suck at making MMO's!!1
MasterD @ Jul 1st 2009 4:10PM
This is a random thing to say, who really cares?
Tyrial-Frost @ Jun 30th 2009 12:25AM
I believe they will have the following schedule for upcoming games.
2009: Starcraft 2: Terran
2010: Starcraft 2: Zerg, Diablo III, WoW: Emerald Dream
2011: Starcraft 2: Protoss, Diablo III: Exp 1, WoW: Maelstrom
2012: Diablo III: Exp 2, New Blizzard MMO
2013: WoW: Endgame
2014: New Blizzard MMO: Exp 1
2015: WoW 2
Giroro @ Jun 30th 2009 1:16AM
I blame World of Warcraft for Starcraft:Ghost's cancellation.
Pregnant Orc @ Jun 30th 2009 7:53AM
I hope the quote "A fair amount of the design team went onto World of Warcraft for a year to really help finish that game off." is an exact quote. Makes it really sound as if they are trying to kill their game.
