We know how much you're looking forward to the second installment in the trilogy of mini-expansions for Final Fantasy XI, which is ... wait, it is XI, right? Or -- hold on, is it XII? Which one had the monkey-tail guy in it? That one wasn't online, we don't think. Gunblade was VIII, monkey-tail was IX, whiny athlete was X -- okay, it's definitely XI. What was XII, then? Did XII even come out?
Anywho, the second mini-expansion, titled A Moogle Kupo d'Etat – Evil in Small Doses, is set to drop at the end of this month, but ultra-anticipatory fans can pre-purchase the game starting July 5 for $9.99. You'll need the Rise of the Zilart explansion to play it, and your character's main job level will need to be at least 10 to access the new content. Also, we -- hot bunny-ears girl! Whew, man. That was going to bother us all day.

Umm...isn't FFXI a PS2 game? What is an expansion pack doing in the PSN?

Hey, I like XII! That was the one with the gun-guy whose name starts with a B! (his name eludes me)
And it had the coolest airship design.

FFXI is still around and it's become a decent game, actually, in spite of how un-user friendly it was for its first...oh, 4 years.
I still play off and on, but ever since the XIV announcement, I've lost interest in XI. With the extra time I've written a seven part series for Somnambulant Gamer regarding what from XI needs to go, (a lot), what needs to stay, (a little), and how XIV could be, gameplay wise, the best MMO out there, if Square Enix plays their cards right. Here's a link if you'd care to read it:

At any rate, I'll probably still buy Kupo d' Etat. Good stuff is coming out of XI still!

The reason it is on PSN is because it specifically targets FFXI players who play on their backwards compatible ps3, like me. :)

$9.99, a few more 'go fetch this item' quests, and a few 'kill NM in BC that requires RDM/DRK BRD and 4 uber-equipped DDs' will net you a _slightly_ (+1~+2 INT and a little magic accuracy) more uber hat for mages than what's currently available. Wonder how many people will take the bait, what with FF14 already on the horizon.
