PS3 Serious Sam HD could happen if consumers want it
Speaking to G4, Croteam CEO Roman Ribaric said the company originally also wanted to do a PSN version of Serious Sam HD alongside the PC and XBLA releases, but cited time constraints as the major factor holding it back. "[We] couldn't get additional financing to support [the] extra development time needed," said Ribaric. "It was either to do PSN by the same date or forget about it."
Luckily, Croteam hasn't gone with the latter and hasn't completely ruled out releasing a PSN port sometime after the PC and XBLA versions. The Croteam CEO says he's heard from different offices in the industry that consumers are disenchanted with late ports; however, he's still interested in listening to what PS3 owners think. Is it worthwhile for Croteam to pursue? Would you wait for the PSN version? Send Croteam an e-mail or maybe start a petition online -- this might be one of the few times developers will actually listen.

On behalf of consumers: We Want It!!
PN04 @ Jun 29th 2009 6:23PM
People will want it as long as it's not a sloppy port. Make a decent build of the game without being plagued with unexplainable bugs that any 3rd rate developers would be able to find.
ruibing @ Jun 29th 2009 7:28PM
Definitely remember having a great time playing the outdoor levels with friends, I'd love to see it on the PS3.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 29th 2009 5:23PM
I don't even really have a good idea what this is, so I'm going with no...don't want it.
Professor Lario @ Jun 29th 2009 5:26PM
Of course it isn't good enough to want if you aren't familiar with it...
sony boy @ Jun 29th 2009 5:31PM
you couldn't do a simple google and youtube search and look at the reviews and then say yes, tmac? seriously!!!
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 29th 2009 5:31PM
Yep pretty much.
Gopheur @ Jun 29th 2009 5:24PM
Online petitions don't really work.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 29th 2009 5:25PM
Bionic Commando trophy patch disagrees with you. Although, I don't know if it was a petition or just the company getting tons of hate mail.
Sly @ Jun 29th 2009 5:57PM
capcom is relatively good to their fans. it probably more from the petition, not the hate mail.
Ghen @ Jun 29th 2009 9:55PM
missing the point, there's no "I have an xbox so I want to screw with the poll results" option.
I chose no to screw with the poll results.
dpirtle22 @ Jun 30th 2009 2:11PM
The PSP Assassins Creed Petition worked...
DarthSpooky @ Jun 29th 2009 5:25PM
We wants it, we needs it. Must have the precious.
Snowblind @ Jun 29th 2009 5:26PM
I'd buy it on the 360 if I get any version at all.. But HD or not, it seems to be missing over half the levels from the First Encounter.
Old_Snake @ Jun 29th 2009 5:28PM
Wow, quite a few people marked 'no' which kind of surprises me. Is it the whole idea of sloppy seconds souring people or do those people really not care much about the title?
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jun 29th 2009 5:30PM
I blame the kiddies who grew up with HALO instead of good ol' fashioned PC shooters like this or Half Life
Snowblind @ Jun 29th 2009 5:36PM
I grew up with games like Doom, Wolfenstein and Rise of the Triads (port please), and would still rather play Halo. So let's not generalise.
Sly @ Jun 29th 2009 5:58PM
moptimus, i didn't get into FPS til around 2006, and i want this. so i agree with snowblind. don't generalize.
DrunkRaba @ Jun 29th 2009 6:22PM
Don't care for FPS in general, looks like crap so I wouldn't be getting it either way. But if someone wants it, good for them.
Eh @ Jun 29th 2009 6:34PM
I never liked this game or knockoffs of it like Painkiller. I think there are enough people who like mindless rampaging to warrant making it though, especially on Xbox Live or PSN at a discounted price.
chispito @ Jun 29th 2009 6:55PM
I don't think I've ever seen a screenshot of SS that did it justice. You have to play it (preferably with a ton of friends) to really get it.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 29th 2009 7:14PM
I don't agree all with Snowblind but I vote him up because I also want a port of Rise of the Triad.
Back when it was released I thought Halo was kind of meh I mean the exploration in levels like S.C was nice (Something that was later removed from the sequels) but it didn't impress me in fact I was playing Halo because some fatso was all over the only Xbox that had Midtown Madness 3 then again Halo gave us a lot of staples like the regeneration armor and the sticky grenades.
Lucky @ Jun 29th 2009 8:27PM
I have a hunch majority of the no answerers are 360-fanboys.
Personally, I prefer my FPSs like god intended, on a PC.
mr nimblewick @ Jun 29th 2009 5:28PM
I really don't get why this is on the main site and not the PS3 fanboy site. You're just going to get a lot of non-ps3 owners voting on the poll.
Eggy @ Jun 29th 2009 5:33PM
This game will never work on a console.
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 29th 2009 5:43PM
What? I played the Gamecube Serious Sam, and it was awesome. Have you played a console FPS in the last decade?
Professor Lario @ Jun 29th 2009 5:45PM
Just curious - why do you say that?
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 29th 2009 5:54PM
Wait, Lario are you talking to me or Eggy?
Professor Lario @ Jun 29th 2009 5:59PM
I was talking to Eggy. I have never played SS, but am looking forward to picking this up. I figure if L4D can pull off the insane shooter, SS should be fine.
Damian @ Jun 29th 2009 6:02PM
Because all console fps games have failed on every console ever, consoles are not cool enough, only pc's can have fps games.
[sarcasm]
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 29th 2009 5:39PM
Why don't they have a third option for I don't care or something?
DigTheDoug @ Jun 29th 2009 5:43PM
They do, it just looks like the "Back" button on your browser.
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 29th 2009 5:49PM
True, but instead of using the back button, a lot of the people who don't care are gonna vote no. That's really not fair.
ZenGaijin @ Jun 29th 2009 6:51PM
IF you don't care then why are you voting in the first place. You don't have to be apart of everything you know.
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 29th 2009 7:16PM
Actually, Zen, I didn't vote, because I don't have a PS3. Look at tmac's posts though. He didn't know what the game was, so he voted no. If their was a third “I don't care” option, he probably would have voted for that.
ZenGaijin @ Jun 29th 2009 8:21PM
IF he doesn't care then why would you vote at all? You don't need a third "I don't care option", just don't vote as your I don't care vote.
This isn't rocket science.
matto.owen @ Jun 29th 2009 9:07PM
joystiq always includes the third option. You know, because clicking things is fun. This vote demands a recount now.
MuToiD_MaN @ Jun 29th 2009 5:40PM
I should be voting for getting my friends back together to play SS or SS:SE on the ol' LAN again, not this.
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 29th 2009 5:45PM
Do your friends make you vote before you do anything, or just this?
Grimcicle @ Jun 29th 2009 5:45PM
Typically I don't bother emailing companies for things like this. However Serious Sam HD is a cause worth fighting for.
Leobebes (BDF: Braid Defence Force) @ Jun 29th 2009 5:45PM
This is kinda of a stupid scenario don't you think? Before any game is made do you think anyone asks "Hey do you think they want this game or not"? You either know if the consumer is likely to bite or you don't.
In this case I think its just another example of bad consumer tracking regarding the PS3. The entire existing ownership of the PS3 is obviously still split into two camps BlueRay first/gaming second & gaming first/gaming second. This situation must drive publishers nuts, and if Sony actually dived into getting the raw meat stats wise they might run into the possibility of shooting themselves in the foot.
PN04 @ Jun 29th 2009 6:21PM
"Bluray first" people dont matter since they're still likely to play video games on it, even if all they play are the downloadable ones which SS would end up being anyway. You cant justify buying a 400 or 500 dollar console JUST for bluray when standalone players are half the price these days. And even if there are people who only use it this way they're in the minority since most people, according to many polls, dont even understand the media playing capabilities of the system.
Jason B. @ Jun 29th 2009 6:06PM
Croteam has never worked on a Sony platform before. I doubt anything will change their mind. These comments sound like they are trying to blow some smoke up someone's butt so they can get on someone's good side.
If I wanted this game, I'd go buy it from Gamestop's bargain bin for $4.99.
PN04 @ Jun 29th 2009 6:27PM
Never having worked on a system before doesnt mean they wouldnt if given the opportunity. If you look comparitively at a company like Valve who routinely craps on the PS3 for being "difficult" then you'd see that this simply sounds like logistical planning. They sound like there's no reason they wouldnt have made it if they simply had the time and extra budget for a 3rd platform.
_LarZen_ @ Jun 29th 2009 6:18PM
Ofc do we want it! You have my money already in your pocket! Bring it on! :D :D
kwispy @ Jun 29th 2009 9:34PM
uh. DO WANT.
ZenGaijin @ Jun 29th 2009 6:53PM
Why is the "No" answer such a dick "no" answer? Who the hell didn't want Bioshock even Wii owners wanted it to be somehow cross ported to the wii.
How about just a simple "Yes"/"No" option next time?
kentuckyfried @ Jun 29th 2009 8:15PM
lol...my sentiments too. It reeks of pre-bioshock-port fandom.
xtremeholymuffin @ Jun 29th 2009 8:53PM
It's supposed to be a joke.
Like the Mitch Hedberg joke: "To do this show, I had to take a physical. They asked me a bunch of medical questions. And they were, like, yes or no questions, but they were very strangely worded. Like, 'Have you ever tried sugar..... or PCP?'"
dgonchild @ Jun 29th 2009 7:02PM
I dont know what Serious Sam is. Did I miss out on something awesome?
