Well of course it did. The original Wii Sports currently resides in like, four out of every five households on the planet -- why wouldn't the Japanese gaming populace spring to consumer action when the MotionPlus-bundled follow-up landed on store shelves?
Within the first four days of its release, Wii Sports Resort moved 353,827 copies, making it the third-fastest selling Wii title ever -- Mario Kart Wii sold 608,000 copies in a similar time period, while Super Smash Bros. Brawl moved 816,000 copies. Whether the frisbee-throwing, sword-dueling, jetski-riding simulator can come close to the 45 million mark set by its bundled forefather remains to be seen.

Pressing buttons on a controller is no more "real" than flailing your arms around. As long as you're moving a fictional character around on a television screen, it's all just pointless entertainment and it doesn't matter whether it's Halo or My Little Pony as long as it entertains the person who bought the game.

Good luck selling that logical argument around these parts.

That is a very interesting comment cody, and i'd have to agree. Though it's kind of interesting. You could say that a "real game" is all about the violence, yet Madworld sells mediocre. would it have sold any more copies on the PS3 or 360? probably, but not by much. You could say a "real game" has stellar piss your pants amazing graphics, and then a game like world of goo prints money faster than the government. The point is that interms of the "gaming world" you ps360 owners are becoming a minority because of the influx of "average people" the wii has captured. I know it hurts you deep inside when you see a game like wii sports resort with its crappy graphics and "waggle" sell hundreds of thousands of copies in a matter of days. Just let people enjoy what they want to enjoy. Your grandmother isn't picking on you for sitting on the couch dual joystiqing your life away. Don't pick on her for jet skiing. Besides, she'll probably kick your ass in bowling or fencing anyday.
I ran out and bought pirates of the caribean because i thought that would be so freakin cool with the sword play. it wasnt. i'll be more cautious this time around...

The original poster might have just meant that Wii Play didn't count because it is bought primarily for the controller it comes with. He probably didn't, but at least that argument has some merit.

i replied failed again...
why are people defending this so much? when everyone i know who owns a wii has more than one copy, then im sure its a tad inflated (assuming that this applies mostly everywhere), and im sure it wouldnt be anywhere near the 10 ten if it wasnt with the controller.

I'm pretty sure uncle jesse was pointing out the fact that the 100 people or so who sit on joystiq with nothing better to do but rip on the wii hardly constitutes as a type of gamer even worth mentioning in the grand scheme of things.

Wayne,
I don't mean that every gamer will buy this game. I meant that it can appeal to every type of gamer. As in, kids, older people, and serious gamers alike seem to all be interested in this game. I have all the 'hardcore' games and other systems besides the Wii, but I'm still picking this one up, for sure. Sure it will get trashed by the commenters here, but it will also get purchased by a lot of them, too.

Like moths to a flame. I guess Nintendo needs some sort of "killer app" to move those MotionPlus controllers.

I have always really liked moths. Especially those big ones with fuzzy antennae. I wouldn't mind being one for once.
This is truly a killer app (sans-quotes) as it transcends the casual/core barrier. I'm not a big Wii fan, and I generally hate what most consider "casual" games, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to get this game (and I guess, four Motion+ dongles). Wicked fun with your best mates trumps surreal gaming escapism any day.

Jeez that's alot.
But based on the previews I've been hearing for the game, Wii Sports 2 may well be worth it.
