Wii Sports Resort sells over 350k copies in four days
Well of course it did. The original Wii Sports currently resides in like, four out of every five households on the planet -- why wouldn't the Japanese gaming populous spring to consumer action when the MotionPlus-bundled follow-up landed on store shelves?
Within the first four days of its release, Wii Sports Resort moved 353,827 copies, making it the third-fastest selling Wii title ever -- Mario Kart Wii sold 608,000 copies in a similar time period, while Super Smash Bros. Brawl moved 816,000 copies. Whether the frisbee-throwing, sword-dueling, jetski-riding simulator can come close to the 45 million mark set by its bundled forefather remains to be seen.

I guess pre-ordering would be a good idea then?
Mr Khan @ Jun 30th 2009 4:30PM
If only because it might be harder for them to mass-produce, yeah.

good lord....this is going to be the hard to find wii title this holiday season....every year they seem to have at LEAST one...
Roto13 @ Jun 30th 2009 3:27PM
I think that honor will belong to Wii Fit Plus.
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jun 30th 2009 3:30PM

Thats a funny way of spelling New Super Mario Bros. Wii

yea they most likely all will be of short supply...
Mr Khan @ Jun 30th 2009 4:31PM
That's the fun of it, Nintendo is releasing 3 games this year that have a good shot at hitting the 10 million mark.
bongoes @ Jun 30th 2009 2:51PM
Let's see if it can do that in the US. I'm not sure if this will be as popular as Wii Fit though. Then again it is a Wii ___ game and it comes with an add-on...
WREturns @ Jun 30th 2009 2:58PM
I'm super excited for some sword-fighting and archery and basketball! Woot!
Shagittarius @ Jun 30th 2009 2:59PM
Sword-fighting with the Wii. LOL

Rhamsey @ Jun 30th 2009 2:58PM
fuck, if this game takes up another of the top ten npd slots im going to be pissed. i hate only seeing nine real games, and if its shut down to eight, that would suck.
mr nimblewick @ Jun 30th 2009 3:03PM
"Real games"
Ha!
Zerokku @ Jun 30th 2009 3:04PM
Do tell what qualifies as a "real game" for you. Whether or not you enjoy some of them, millions of people obviously do, and that's the point of gaming. To y'know, have fun.
mr nimblewick @ Jun 30th 2009 3:08PM
Did you know that playing badminton in your back yard is considered a "minigame?"

Pressing buttons on a controller is no more "real" than flailing your arms around. As long as you're moving a fictional character around on a television screen, it's all just pointless entertainment and it doesn't matter whether it's Halo or My Little Pony as long as it entertains the person who bought the game.
Cody @ Jun 30th 2009 3:30PM

Good luck selling that logical argument around these parts.
Mr Khan @ Jun 30th 2009 4:33PM
we're down to about 7 real games already anyway.
The disease is spreading :P
Jay Voorhees @ Jun 30th 2009 4:44PM
That is a very interesting comment cody, and i'd have to agree. Though it's kind of interesting. You could say that a "real game" is all about the violence, yet Madworld sells mediocre. would it have sold any more copies on the PS3 or 360? probably, but not by much. You could say a "real game" has stellar piss your pants amazing graphics, and then a game like world of goo prints money faster than the government. The point is that interms of the "gaming world" you ps360 owners are becoming a minority because of the influx of "average people" the wii has captured. I know it hurts you deep inside when you see a game like wii sports resort with its crappy graphics and "waggle" sell hundreds of thousands of copies in a matter of days. Just let people enjoy what they want to enjoy. Your grandmother isn't picking on you for sitting on the couch dual joystiqing your life away. Don't pick on her for jet skiing. Besides, she'll probably kick your ass in bowling or fencing anyday.
I ran out and bought pirates of the caribean because i thought that would be so freakin cool with the sword play. it wasnt. i'll be more cautious this time around...
sony boy @ Jun 30th 2009 4:47PM
just wait until wii fit plus and new super mario bros. then it would only be 5 real games on the npd.
Zerokku @ Jun 30th 2009 5:15PM
@ sony boy
Are you seriously insinuating that Mario bros is not a real game, even under rhamsey's retarded definition?
...
Are you fucking kidding me?
FlamingEffigy @ Jun 30th 2009 7:55PM
The original poster might have just meant that Wii Play didn't count because it is bought primarily for the controller it comes with. He probably didn't, but at least that argument has some merit.
I'll be here all week extracting semi-formed arguments from insensate posts.
Rhamsey @ Jun 30th 2009 8:40PM
i replied failed again...
why are people defending this so much? when everyone i know who owns a wii has more than one copy, then im sure its a tad inflated (assuming that this applies mostly everywhere), and im sure it wouldnt be anywhere near the 10 ten if it wasnt with the controller.
pete @ Jun 30th 2009 2:58PM
Slim pickens make for big sales.
Storm Eagle @ Jun 30th 2009 3:00PM

More Wii owners than any other console + game that appeals to every type of gamer = massive sales
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 30th 2009 4:01PM
every type? clearly you dont read many comments
Jay Voorhees @ Jun 30th 2009 4:50PM
I'm pretty sure uncle jesse was pointing out the fact that the 100 people or so who sit on joystiq with nothing better to do but rip on the wii hardly constitutes as a type of gamer even worth mentioning in the grand scheme of things.
uncle jesse @ Jun 30th 2009 5:45PM
Wayne,
I don't mean that every gamer will buy this game. I meant that it can appeal to every type of gamer. As in, kids, older people, and serious gamers alike seem to all be interested in this game. I have all the 'hardcore' games and other systems besides the Wii, but I'm still picking this one up, for sure. Sure it will get trashed by the commenters here, but it will also get purchased by a lot of them, too.
Misframed @ Jun 30th 2009 3:01PM
This will sell bazonkers here in America too...
cuteSAVAGE @ Jun 30th 2009 3:02PM

Like moths to a flame. I guess Nintendo needs some sort of "killer app" to move those MotionPlus controllers.
cuteSAVAGE @ Jun 30th 2009 3:18PM
I have always really liked moths. Especially those big ones with fuzzy antennae. I wouldn't mind being one for once.
This is truly a killer app (sans-quotes) as it transcends the casual/core barrier. I'm not a big Wii fan, and I generally hate what most consider "casual" games, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to get this game (and I guess, four Motion+ dongles). Wicked fun with your best mates trumps surreal gaming escapism any day.
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jun 30th 2009 3:19PM

Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Jun 30th 2009 3:32PM
Jeez that's alot.
But based on the previews I've been hearing for the game, Wii Sports 2 may well be worth it.
