You really have no excuse for not owning Fallout 3 at this point. Not only is it a really excellent game, it's packing tons of value with all the different DLC available. And let's not forget the indescribable pleasure of having Danny Kaye songs endlessly stuck in your head.
Now that the game's been slashed to $24.99 for the weekend on Steam, you have less than no excuse. It's like ... negative excuse, which we believe means you're legally obligated to buy a copy, even if you already own one.

My reason for not owning it is that I am waiting for GAME OF THE YEAR Edition with all of the DLC already on the disc. We know it will happen.

I second that. I got GOTY Oblivion for $10 and I don't regret it! I'll wait. I have plenty of games to keep me busy in the mean time.

Meh, I jumped on it. I just built a new gaming PC and needed something to test it with.

love my FO3, but Jesus do they need to fix the micro stuttering issues. It's killing me.

A quick Google search brings up a lot of fixes for micro-stuttering.

And not a single one of them works. I've tried them all and put in 5-6 hours trying to fix the issue. A "fix" in my mind is something that doesn't result in the game being artificially slowed down or sped up, and doesn't ruin the lip syncing. These "fixes" are not fixes at all, they are patches on a major issue that needs to be fixed.

Yeah, it was kind of weird because Fallout 3 worked flawlessly on my own computer (HD 4850, 3 GB of RAM, Windows Vista 32-bit), but on my dad's computer (HD 4850, 4 GB of RAM, Windows Vista 64-bit) it microstuttered so badly that I couldn't play it for more than five minutes.

It's definitely not just an ATI problem. I have a GTX 260 and I am having AWFUL micro-stutter.

Yeah, I own the game for the 360 and have unlocked all of the achievements, yet I still just bought it on the PC so I could play with the GECK. I'm such a junkie.

Own it on pc and 360 already. Does this mean I need to buy it a third time?

I really didn't like the game, it was very frustrating at times, the storyline sucked big time, the AI was shitty and the moral choices were so black and white it was ridiculous.

I bought the special edition of this game, with the lunch box and the bobble head, when it was $40 on amazon. I have to say it is the most dissapointing game I have ever played. The vast, beautifully rendered world and the storyline had so much potential, I was expecting it to rival Bioshock. Not even close. Any ounce of immersion you can get from the landscape and the story is quickly cut out by bad voice acting, before you even really start playing. Then you start moving around the world and see that they didn't bother hiring animators for this game, they just had some random intern do all the animations. Then you kill a girls father, and while the bad actress attempts to be emotional the character model rigidly moves so it's facing neither you or her dead father. Okay, so the animation isn't good and the acting isn't good. At least it looks pretty when nothings moving.
Finally, I get out of the Vault and start moving around the world. Everything is lifeless, so there's a lot of walking. Lots of walking. The scenery is great for a while, but it gets boring. FINALLY I got to get into some combat, and nevermind the rest of the games flaws, the combat is unimaginably bad. You realize that they didn't think up the fancy VATS system as a gimmick, but because you NEED it for the combat to be bearable.
I put at least 4 hours to that game and I desperately wish for them back. Yea I know a bunch of people are going to disagree with me, but I don't care. Games are supposed to be fun, and games like this are supposed to be immersive. Fallout 3 was neither for me.

There are some valid arguments in that block, but it looks like you in the time it takes to get the story going you were bored/aggravated and started noticing any flaws you could find. This game in no way drops you into the action.
I can understand... Morrowind almost made me pass on this game. And people loved that game. I didn't appeal to you. I'm sure you can get most of your $40 back selling it

I'm not really bummed about the $40, I'm more bummed that the game just didn't live up to what it could have been. As for "the game doesn't drop you into the action", 4 hours and still not having an ounce of fun is a lot more than a slow start. And I don't see how someone could NOT see those jarring flaws. Every other game I've played besides oblivion has animations that can be called decent. I don't understand how they could look at their own game and say yea, that looks good, it's done.

So does the official DLC and user mods work with the steam version of the game?
A quick google of Fallout 3 DLC with Steam revealed some nasty threads where people were having to employ all kinds of hacks and workarounds to get the paid DLC to work with the Steam version of the game. Is this still the way it is or is it easy pay and play now, and do the user mods work on the Steam version?

shit man it's really tempting to just buy the game now. But as much as I want it now I'm waiting till October when the GOTY edition is released. (so I can have the game, all the DLC and not have to put all the DLC-goodness on my ever-shrinking Hardrive.) sweet.

Caramelzappa did bring up a point, the combat and animations were awful. Almost barable with VATs though, although gimmicky atleast it was an extra once of strategy.

For some reason Joystiq doesn't consider PC gamers.. to be gamers. In fact, they had a PC tag but -took it out- with this new remodeled website. Thanks, Joystiq!
However, I've started reading gaming blogs that DO include the PC tag. I'm here for a change of pace after a long 'Stiq-sabbatical.

I love my patience. I told myself I won't buy this game at full retail price because I didn't like what Bethesda did to the franchise. Thanks to steam, I'll be paying this game of what it just deserve.
Before you flame me, I love Fallout especially 1 and 2. Just didn't like the direction/change that Bethesda did. For the sake of Fallout, I'm buying it half the price!

Like on my earlier message, I bought the game, played a few hours liking it then BAM! I the game freezes every freaking time I move to a spot. Game froze 6x now since I installed the game and once after installing the most latest patch. Am I missing something here? I mean this game is being hailed by so many and I can't even freaking hit a box with my bat just to have fun coz it freezes the game! Oh btw my comp is high end so it has nothing to do with it. Can someone pls tell me the secret how to make this game playable for at least 1 hour before it freezes again.
