Following up on earlier reports that Valve won't leave Left 4 Dead to die an early death, the company stated today that there should be an L4D DLC announcement before the end of summer. A company spokesperson also told CVG that about eight or nine months from now, when L4D2 has released and people see the continued support for L4D, they may finally understand the method to the madness.
We're all eagerly awaiting the epiphany.

Because EA 'might' (HEAVY emphasis on might) port it to the PS3 with one of their in-house dev teams.

@Damian: I think that's why he said "A" mall level, not "THE" mall level. As in, a mall level designed by Valve and ported straight into our eyeholes.

I just love the need to make an announcement that you are going to have an announcement sometime in the future. The last time they said they had an announcement to make, it turned out that there really was no announcement to announce. If there is something they are obviously planning to announce, why not just announce it now and give us a little bit longer of a wait for whatever it is they're announcing?

Well, as usual, all the whiny video gamer crying/rage was for naught. When a company like Valve can't even get the benefit of the doubt, things are in bad shape.

Umm, so they're going to release the DLC just before L4D2 is released?
What's the fucking point in that? Yeah, let me continue to pump money into a game that I don't play anymore because I'm playing the sequel already.

either way i plan to sell L4D soon so I can recoup all $40 i spent on it to put towards L4D 2. I still have too many games too play that are begging me for attention such as Mass Effect, the Orange Box, Burnout Paradise, and Mirror's Edge. If only there were 36 hours or 48 hours each day...

I understand the method to their madness perfectly fine. They told the world about L4D2, didn't expect that reaction, and now to mitigate it they're releasing new content on L4D to appear as if they're still supporting it.
And being someone who doesn't particularly care about the whole L4D2 controversy (any more L4D sounds great to me), I'm totally fine with this.

I agree with the sentiment that most people have about it: Valve treats its customers like champions which spoiled them and they expected 50 updates by now and all of those updates to be free. I admit that L4D was kind of expensive considering the amount of content in it, but I played through every scenario a great deal and I totally enjoyed it.

Possibly the DLC will effectively upgrade L4D1 to L4D2?

They could have easily put the dead space girl here.
I hope that the DLC will also work for L4D2.

Doom demands that this DLC be free like the first. If Valve charges for it, they can expect a robotic horde on their doorstep courtesy of Doctor Doom!

You should have loads of money to spend, Doom.
I would pay for some new campaign levels. That would be most excellent. I wouldn't have paid for the survival mode, but I was happy to have it free to download and now I find myself playing it all the time. If the new DLC has to be purchased to be played, I trust Valve enough to know that it would be worth it.
