If you subscribe to Nintendo Power, the latest issue should be arriving at your house very soon -- Aeropause has the scoop on some details on Nintendo's upcoming lineup from the issue. Most important to folks reading this text is likely what Miyamoto had to say regarding the new Legend of Zelda game, announced back at E3: "I don't think it's going to be that radically different." But, what about the theory of the girl being the Master Sword? Surely that is radically different!
In typical Nintendo fashion, that's all Miyamoto had to say. He left us hanging to speculate, and we're sure most will be able to turn this appetizer of a quote into a five-course meal.

Someone doesn't have a life beyond Joystiq...
Why do you keep coming back to people you don't like and that don't like you? I don't get it.
You must be a very lonely sad little individual, Sprinkles. I'm sorry your mommy didn't love you.

Ocarina was one of my favorite games of all-time, but the series has gotten stale for me. All the basic things that the series was missing were cute for a while, but it's time to catch up and get with the times.
If this is just another "herd some sheep with a wooden sword then go to the forest, water, and fire temples" then I'll pass.

likewise. i mean, sure a series has to give gamers *some* sense of familiarity, but that doesn't mean every game should feel *exactly* like a game you've played before.
i'm sorry, but 20% of gameplay as a wolf does not a new game make.

Ocarina of Time is not only my favorite Zelda game, but it's my favorite game, period.
The thing about OoT is that the tech in the N64 made so many things possible for the Zelda series. Not so much now in the Gamecube/Wii renditions of the games.
I suspect that if Zelda had the power of the PS3 or 360 behind, we might have seen another huge leap in the series like we did in OoT. It's too bad Nintendo just discovered the DVD......

What innovation can HD or Hard drive give to Zelda?
Zelda is all about gameplay, wich is exactly what Nintendo is focused on, they're trying new ways to experience a game, wich is great to revive stale franchises.
Zelda can benefit more from WM+ than it could from HD. WM+ can refresh the whole combat system and puzzles.

Being there from the start (1987's The Hyrule Fantasy: The Legend of Zelda), I have to agree with you both and many others on that the Zelda series has become a bit same ol' same ol' in too many ways, which is better than new and horrible, but nonetheless a slow killer regardless if not checked. I know Ocarina of Time (Major's Mask as well) made a huge leaps to where we are today overall and were good at being the bridging point to today but now its a bit stale and possibly just too safe a bet as it is. I think better looking and bigger complex worlds would help.
Look, I don't want the series to go through a huge radical change or venture into risk taking territory the likes of the Sonic franchise for example, AT ALL, but I do think they need to make for one again the graphics and world to be a bit more detailed & complex for lack of a better words or explanations. It just sucks that to find the changes I would hope one day it could reach would mean a newer system with greater graphical & memory ability. Not that that is horrible but we are talking about now.
Don't get me wrong it's not all graphics either as I immensely enjoyed The Wind Waker a lot! But yeah I miss the cool and fun nature of A Link to the Past but we need to get back to what made that game so amazingly awesome. I hope it is not just memories of my youth or being of that age group to feel this way.
Look I just remembered, one thing that start making these to safe and a but confused is in how the game no longer can be completely done with strategy guides. I remember that all the answers where there for the players by just them playing and exploring. Now it's all about chance and or a guide to get through too many aspects of the game.

I really wish Project Deluge had some kind of basis in reality, no matter how small. A change like that would be great for the series, imo.

If you outfit your wife of 20 years with a new set of tits and a pair of heels, she'll be fun to ride again, even though the gameplay is the same.

Thank you fellow Zelda "haters"!
It's about time the tide has turn and people can now see the series for what it is. Stale.
I loved A Link to the Past, and really, really liked OoT/Majora's mask. I even appreciated Wind Waker even though that's when I first started tasting something stale.
However, the formula must change or be greatly enhanced. I'm so sick of the formulaic dungeon crawling. The designs are dull, secrets are few, and it simply takes too long to do a single dungeon with very little reward. Sure, the boss fights can be enjoyable, but when you freaking know what weapon you're going to get before you've done three rooms in the dungeon, you know the designers have gotten lazy.
Also, let's stop with the gimmicks. It was barely ok to swallow an annoying fairy, but a wolf, a freak, a boat, a train, another boat... Come on, seriously... If they added more than they took away it may be worth it, but let's just get back to the core game and stop putting lipstick on a pig. Do that AFTER you update the core, if you must.
If you can't do 3D well anymore, go back to 2D (but away from DS/PSP) and remember what made Zelda awesome.

I couldn't even bother finishing Twilight Princess. I enjoyed Wind Waker but this felt like a step backwards (or sideways). It bugged me that Link controlled exactly the same as he did in Ocarina of Time. I also did not enjoy being a dog at all. They don't have to completely reinvent the series but they at least need to do enough so that it doesn't feel like an Ocarina of Time expansion or reskin.
er, I mean... ZELDA NEEDS MORE ALIENS THAT I CAN SHOOT WITH MY LASER GUN.

Are you basically saying Wind Waker was NOT one of the very best looking games of last generation, even besting most of the horrible, bland, drab looking horse shit this generation? I certainly hope not.

Couldn't Nintendo just make a blanket statement about that for all their franchises?
Blanket will be living with his grandmother unless Diana Ross wants him.

I'm sure they'll just give the sword some new ability that adds more to the gameplay, like they did with the boomerang. I also suspect that at different intervals in the game, the sword will shape-shift and talk to you, guiding you on your quest to defeat Ganon, save Zelda, rescue Hyrule, kick Tingle or whatever it is your doing in this one.

I don't need Zelda to be crazy different. I want it to be fresh and fun and innovative but I don't need it to reinvent the wheel. Zelda is great because it's classic, not because it's way out there. It's all about an untried hero, a powerful sword, a beautiful princess and an evil villain. And that's fine. Now, that's not saying I don't want Nintendo to create new IPs that ARE crazy different but they don't have to use Zelda for that.
Posted: Jul 2nd 2009 3:39PM (Unverified) said
I agree with you. Just look at Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time. Majora's Mask was very similar to Ocarina, yet it had its own quirky and developed gameplay that was unique to that game. Reinventing the wheel doesn't necessarily equate to better games.
