Reminder: Alpha Protocol is The Espionage RPG
So, in case it wasn't made absolutely clear by the box art, here's what Obsidian Entertainment's head-slammin' Alpha Protocol isn't:
- The Overwrought Fantasy RPG
- The Contemplative Neo-Classical RPG
- The Effervescent Dating RPG
- The Number One Best Selling RPG
- An Espionage RPG
- That Other Game About The Secret Agent and Stuff

I've been waiting forever for this game, I hope it comes out this year.
Damian @ Jul 2nd 2009 3:55PM
Getting a huge Mass Effect vibe from this, thats not a bad thing.
The Dark Wang(Ohyeahcola in disguise) @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:05PM
Except its not Sci-Fi and it probably won't be as good as Mass Effect.
David @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:53PM
Mass Effect was good?
Chin-Paaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! @ Jul 2nd 2009 5:09PM
Yes.
Kdiggy @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:02PM
Not so sure about this one. I know a lot of people seem to like it, but it's just not clicking with me.
WREturns @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:03PM
I'll get it.
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:05PM
MySims Agent will be better
The Dark Wang(Ohyeahcola in disguise) @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:13PM
I call BULLSHIT!!!!!!!
samik @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:08PM
The original espionage RPG will be back soon - Deus Ex 3. Hope its as good and deep as 1.
Doctor Doom @ Jul 2nd 2009 5:31PM
Deus Ex was amazing, but I've never played 2. Was it any good?
Pimliconite @ Jul 2nd 2009 7:46PM
No.
Saihna @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:12PM
So is that new rating for US too, or is it for that other country?
(sorry can't remember.)
Shmil @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:14PM
By other country you mean Europe yes that is the Pegi system. The US and canada still use the ESRB which uses the ratings E, T, M, AO etc.
Saihna @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:37PM
Thanks. n__n
Bradwart @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:44PM
@shmil
You forgot the rating of 'P'. You know, for Pachter? That's where Duke Nukem Forever went, after all.
Shmil @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:47PM
Duke Nukem forever became an analyst? or it just predicted a bunch of easy stuff? I'm confused
Mazrael @ Jul 3rd 2009 8:35AM
Europe isn't a country...
Neither is England in Birmingham, or Birmingham the capital of London...
Angel Mass @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:12PM
Just another game?
Jrinswand @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:16PM
"The Espionage RPG?"
Wow, that is kind of disappointing. When a game needs to explain itself on it's cover, you just know it is going to be plagued with mediocrity. Then again, I'm not really all that sure why I thought this game would be good in the first place. To this day I have yet to finish KOTOR II or NWN 2.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:47PM
you bit your tongue. KOTOR 2 was every bit as good as the original if not better. Saying it's the Espionage RPG doesnt indicate mediocrity, it just says that people are stupid and if they didnt have that there they might buy it thinking it's an action game
Shmil @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:49PM
Because there aren't enough game covers featuring a dude holding a gun. Lord knows what type of game it could be, FPS, TPS, RTS, he looks like a spy maybe its like Splinter Cell or MGS?
No its a genre melding that should be explained before someone picks up an in depth RPG and expect to play splinter cell.
Einhanderkiller @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:50PM
Tactical espionage action.

Jrinswand @ Jul 2nd 2009 5:03PM
The Dark Wayne and Shmil, you both make very good points. Perhaps it is necessary that the game clarifies that it is an RPG on the cover. After all, I work at a video game store and I am all too familiar with the way in which uninformed consumers purchase video games.
But perhaps the image on the front cover speaks more of the unoriginality of the game's content than the cover's text speaks of people's idiocy. Now don't get me wrong. I don't know much about the game other than what was in Game Informer when it was the cover story. How many times have you played a bald white guy wielding a gun though? Surely Obsidian could have come up with something better.
Shmil @ Jul 2nd 2009 5:46PM
Yes but from what I've read in that same game informer is that this game isn't like a shooter. That the RPG elements of the far outway everything else. It is like mass effect but in the CIA. All of the dialogue options are there, the weapons specializations.
So a spy based RPG set in modern times, is unoriginal? I may not know of many games but I've never heard of anything like this before. I'm thinking something along the lines of Splinter Cell meets Oblivion.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 2nd 2009 5:47PM
well on that i cant agree with you more. Even in game the character is just generic white guy
Dr. steve brule @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:25PM
the words rpg on the cover or not, that is terrible box art.
Kdiggy @ Jul 3rd 2009 9:44AM
I'm sorry but KOTOR 2 was god awful. What a huge disappointment.
Jrinswand @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:18PM
Skip to 0:35 in the video. There is no way that guy isn't anorexic. I'm not kidding. He looks like he's about to die.
Teph @ Jul 2nd 2009 5:06PM
I would bet he has some sort of illness/sickness/handicap. Just look at his hands. I'm not up on the different musculature "defects" or what have you, but it looks like one to me.
I would ease up on the hate.
Jrinswand @ Jul 2nd 2009 5:12PM
Hey man, there's no hate. Eating disorders are serious business.
No matter how many times I see it, though, that level of skinniness is always shocking.
Bravo6 @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:24PM
Dude, that's not an eating disorder, he's disabled.
Jrinswand @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:33PM
Yeah, I really have no interest in this game, so I didn't watch through to the end of the video. That would definitely explain why he's sitting like that though. LOL.
el serpiente @ Jul 2nd 2009 9:41PM
Sigh, I just knew seeing the video that at least one douchewad here was going to bring it up...
Jonathan @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:23PM
That is one generic looking cover.
oOWallaceOo @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:29PM
They spent their originality budget on the subtitle
Damian @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:32PM
I think the cover looks cool.
CH3BURASHKA @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:23PM
It wouldn't be as stupid if they just drop the 'the'.
WREturns @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:31PM
"Tactical Espionage Action", anyone?
Misframed @ Jul 2nd 2009 4:30PM
It would be a day 1 purchase if it was The Effervescent Dating RPG ...
Huey2k2 @ Jul 2nd 2009 5:30PM
Gotta say, I've been kinda on the fence about this game for a while now... but it looks like it is shaping up to be good, I am actually getting pretty excited.
Kevin @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:34PM
yeah me too. i think this might be my purchase of the fall.... that is if it comes out this fall... october maybe?
nriveraexpress @ Jul 2nd 2009 11:56PM
lame, it should be tactical espionage role playing!...your welcome
Diskoboy7 @ Jul 3rd 2009 12:11AM
The Espionage RPG?? Gimmie a break.
I feel the sudden urge to get out my old Top Secret, p&p game, from back in the day. I miss that game...
Paper @ Jul 3rd 2009 9:51AM
This is what they are calling FPS these days? Riiiiiight.... Why even have other genre's anymore if everything is going to be and FPS in disguise.
