According to Shock Till You Drop, the Resident Evil movies are getting a fourth installment in Resident Evil: Afterlife. A supposed internal memo at Sony Pictures seems to point to a September 17, 2010 release. Of course, this isn't the first time we've heard about a fourth Resident Evil movie, so we're considering this rumor fairly credible.
Do we really want another Resident Evil movie, though? Hasn't Milla Jovovich beaten up enough zombified dogs and dudes in rubber suits?

i concur, the resident evil movies are a clusterfuck of stupidity
maybe michael bay will sign as the director so literally everything can explode.
what a joke, resident evil has a very in depth storyline that can be explored ... but too bad its aimed at american kids who think that transformers was a good movie.

The games only allude to so much but they have consistently fell apart at the end. There's been a few shining moments though.
The movies should be appreciated for what they are. The first two were ok, the second much better than the first. The third was an abomination, though. Absolutely terrible and stupid.

The next movie should only have people standing and shooting. Then the fanboys would be happy.

All the people who think any of these movies were good...
...leave the room.
....
These movies were pure bullshit! The first RE game had a perfectly workable setup, Night of the Living Dead meets Aliens. Instead we get a pseudo-prequel with a goddamn female version of Neo running around and some Alice in Wonderland garbage thrown in! And running up walls to kick dogs in the head for some reason! Because that was in the game...
It wasn't Resident Evil, it was the director remaking the action sequences from the Matrix with a much lower budget and CG zombies that looked mostly CG.
The second Resident Evil was monumentally more retarded! It even displays a total lack of understanding of its source material when the protagonists run through a graveyard over well settled soil and zombies spring out the ground! The film itself said the outbreak started only 12 hours earlier! How can corpses who've been dead for years, possibly decades, catch an airborn contagion?! And then the pathetic mess ends with a fist fight with the Nemesis. A fist-fight, because that's horror!
The third movie only expanded on Anderson's copy and paste writing, as he further cemented Milla (not a character from any of the games) into Neo, with psychic powers and added speed zombies from recently more SUCCESSFUL zombie-type films (28 Days Later, DotD Remake).
What part of survival-horror is about over the top kung-fu, psychic powers, and fist fighting giant mutants (and winning)!? It's not. It's the insipid, uninspired work of a writer director who's a hair more competent than Uwe Boll!
Why can't people appreciate a Romero film for once!? This guy practically invented the modern zombie movie! In 1985's Day of the Dead you see a guy get his guts ripped out in a way that most movies wouldn't even dream of replicating today...
Instead people drool over Milla Jovoich like it's 1997. 5th Element was 12 years ago! Buy a poster and be done with it!
But these people also think Transformers 2 is a good movie. But I can't, can't get started on that...

I can almost imagine you driving up to a mall at the very earliest, parking you're bycicle up front and yelling "first!" while raising your arms.
But in this mall, young man, it seems you don't have money at all and you're not even first. So why are you even here? The point isn't to post first: it's to post an opinion.

I liked them all. I think Resident Evil has done great as far as game-to-movie adaptations go.
Needs less Mike Epps though...

I think it was already planned for Milla to be in lingerie throughout the whole movie.

I liked the first one. It wasn't a masterpiece or anything, but it felt right enough and it had zombies and a licker. I don't know what else I'd ask for from it.

Maybe they'll actually finish the story off now.
I love the movies but the cliffhangers kill me!
Oh, and come on, this image is literally SCREAMING for the Dead Space chick.

There's a cliffhanger on the third one? I thought they just cut off the last half of the movie...

I personally enjoyed the Resident Evil movies, I particularly liked the second one the most I think.
But I would rather they reboot the series though, with a film completely based off RE4 with a good actor playing the lead for Leon.
I just thought RE4 had one of the better stories of the game series, it could transition very well to a film.

I have seen it, I should have clarified and said specifically the live action movies need to do the RE4 plot line.
I don't recall Degeneration being set in the same environment as RE4 or involve the same or similar story it just had Leon as the lead.

I feel like I am one of the few who likes the movies. I am not that much of a retard who wants them to be so close to the source material, but I love the references. And they make great action flicks with some mindless fun and gore. Just a like a real Resident Evil, lol.

That's why the movies are win. They know what they are and they don't try hard to be something else.

What's the point of making a movie "based on" a game if you're just going to make shit up that doesn't fit the canon? I'm all for creative license but I still expect a decent movie to come out of it, not like the trainwreck of a movie the last one was.
"And they make great action flicks with some mindless fun and gore."
That's the problem. Resident Evil has *never* been about mindless fun and gore. Sometimes it's a bit excessive, yes, but you've always had to be very careful of what you're actually doing. Managing your inventory, conserving ammo and health, etc. If you want mindless fun and gore, you're looking for Doom or Serious Sam.

Its fine to come up with an original story based on a game but its not fine to use parts from the game in the wrong way. The Lara Croft movies were perfectly fine because they stayed true to the main character and then made up a new adventure, they used references in the right way and made a movie that could easily become a real Tomb Raider game.
The RE movies just doint give a shit about the games. They take things from the game then totally jack them up to the point that theyre just nonsense and cant fit into the universe at all. Theres really no reason the movies should be called Resident Evil.

The first one was decent, the second one was eehhhhhh, and the third one was absolutely awful. If they continue with this trend, a fourth one might actually bring about the zombie apocalypse.
