Splinter Cell: Conviction will take 12 hours to complete on normal says the game's creative director, Maxime Beland, in the latest issue of OXM. There will certainly be a harder difficultly level for folks that are into trial and error for 30 hours, but the "normal gamers" will get a well-sized adventure. Beland says this was done because he wants people to actually finish the game. That's quite a good idea.
Also, at around 12 hours of gameplay, Badass: The Game won't wear out its welcome -- if it keeps the action going. Of course, there'll be multiplayer to extend the experience, but we likely won't be able to crack skulls in urinals there ... or maybe we will, which would then confirm Splinter Cell as game of the year.

Incidentally, Deez Nutz takes about 12 hours also.

In all fairness, it takes about 11 hours and 56 minutes because they are so small and incidentally, hard to find.

i'm not sure the whole 'only 12 hours so people will finish it' excuse is particularly a good one... but sadly it holds true for me.
I've LOVED all the splintercell games, but I'd don't think I've finished any of them since the first one. And I've played ALL OF THEM.
Very strange, I know.
But I've very excited for this one, to be sure.

get a pc. most of the 360 exclusives are coming to pc so if you have a ps3 and pc, you win.

I assume/hope that the game will allow missions to be completed in a variety of ways.
It's been a LOOOONG time since I played Splinter Cell, but I believe it did allow a few branching paths in each area.
That might make it worth replaying a second time. Still 12 hours is fine for an action game for me.

Fisher still moves too fast when hanging and the execute though cool looking seems to easy. Splinter Cell although not completely realistic was never about the arcadey feeling this one is giving off.

Why do people complain when a game isn't 30+ hours long? Maybe I'm just a bit older and find it hard to squeeze in the hours like I used to, but a 12 hour game will last me a while. I know games like Fallout 3 or Oblivion are amazing, but I don't even bother buying them because I know that I will never finish it when I hear about people sinking in 100+ hours into them. Sucks for me, I guess. I like the shorter games. I can finish it up with a couple of hours here and there and just play some multiplayer when I want. Works for me.
Although, there are exceptions. Mass Effect 2 and the next Legend of Zelda will definitely be purchased! It will just take me a looooong time to finish them, like it did with their respective predecessors.

Sounds about right. I've yet to play any shooter's single player that didn't start getting stale after 8 hours or so. 12 hours is pushing the upper bounds of it, but could still fit in alright.
A lot of games that other people thought were too short (Dark Sector, Gears 2, Uncharted) I actually found to be a little too long.

Even Bioshock felt like it dragged on to me, as great as it was. I already felt like it was dragging a bit an hour or so before I got to the big reveal, little did I know I wasn't even half way yet. Plodding through for another 8 hours after I was ready for it to be over left my a lot less excited for the sequel than if it had just ended near the golf club scene.

I agree. Bioshock kinda dragged when you were putting the Big Daddy suit together. It just wasn't necessary. However, I thought Gears 2 was paced perfectly.

Well, since DSG was around all day yesterday, and that was July 1st, then July 1st is officially DSG Day, a new holiday.
Don't worry, that day will come.

I wonder what the multiplayer is going to be like. I missed out on Chaos Theory's multiplayer mode, but I thought Double Agent was really fun once you got the hang of it. Actually, multiplayer was pretty much all I played on Double Agent. The campaign pissed me off to no end.

After Portal, I don't think that we can measure game greatness in hours. It could be a 5 hour experience and still blast your balls off.

I don't know if that's true, Portal was included with Team Fortress 2 and the 2 Half Life episodes. I've played Team Fortress a bunch and I beat the 2 episodes. If I had paid $60 just for Portal I would have felt ripped off.

You would feel ripped off if you had an absolute blast with a game that was 5 hours long, but you loved every minute of it? Weird.

Yep, I would feel ripped off. Especially if it has little replay value or no multiplayer like Portal. I'm just glad Portal came with other things that made it worth $60, because otherwise it's worth at most, $15. Or just a $5 rental.

The way I see it, Metal Gear is amazing if you get into the wild long storyline. Sure MGS4 is amazing, but you cannot ignore this game. Its doing a lot of things that other action shooters have yet to do.
I would say that it would be a different experience altogether even.

I may do that this weekend. I've got a small stack of games that I need to polish off if only to justify them being purchased.
As for Fallout 3, get it. I was only able to give it two hours at a time, and that really sucked for the first 4-6 hours, but after that, the time will just fly by in that game. I think I'm at hour 80 or so and still not at Lvl 30.
