Splinter Cell: Conviction (aka Badass: The Game) will take about 12 hours
Splinter Cell: Conviction will take 12 hours to complete on normal says the game's creative director, Maxime Beland, in the latest issue of OXM. There will certainly be a harder difficultly level for folks that are into trial and error for 30 hours, but the "normal gamers" will get a well-sized adventure. Beland says this was done because he wants people to actually finish the game. That's quite a good idea.
Also, at around 12 hours of gameplay, Badass: The Game won't wear out its welcome -- if it keeps the action going. Of course, there'll be multiplayer to extend the experience, but we likely won't be able to crack skulls in urinals there ... or maybe we will, which would then confirm Splinter Cell as game of the year.

Incidentally, Deez Nutz takes about 12 hours also.
Captain Planet @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:00PM
In all fairness, it takes about 11 hours and 56 minutes because they are so small and incidentally, hard to find.
Nozzinja @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:08PM
Ouch that must burn!!!
mezzanine @ Jul 2nd 2009 7:50PM
Shit I thought for sure I had a 3-heart comment there and fucking captain planet upstaged me.
Teph @ Jul 2nd 2009 5:52PM
i'm not sure the whole 'only 12 hours so people will finish it' excuse is particularly a good one... but sadly it holds true for me.
I've LOVED all the splintercell games, but I'd don't think I've finished any of them since the first one. And I've played ALL OF THEM.
Very strange, I know.
But I've very excited for this one, to be sure.
Cyryus @ Jul 3rd 2009 11:24AM
Actually, I am right there with you!
TinyTim121 @ Jul 2nd 2009 5:54PM
:( God damn i wish this was coming to the PS3
The Dark Wang(Ohyeahcola in disguise) @ Jul 2nd 2009 5:59PM
i feel your pain, but I'm gonna get a 360 when Alan Wake comes out
sony boy @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:29PM
i know people will be shocked to hear this from me, but i'm going to say it anyways.
get a pc. most of the 360 exclusives are coming to pc so if you have a ps3 and pc, you win.
TinyTim121 @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:57PM
Yeah i have a PC but i don't really use it for gaming so i guess i'd need to upgrade it
Thank god i don't have a mac lol can't upgrade those
Clinton @ Jul 2nd 2009 7:05PM
lol aah nice one at the macs, but i dont use my pc for gaming ether
Edicius @ Jul 2nd 2009 7:32PM
Getting a 360 is cheaper than getting a gaming pc setup.
K1LLER HORNET @ Jul 2nd 2009 7:57PM
@ sony boy
no you are incorrect,
get a Gaming PC, PS3 & XBOX 360,
than you WIN! :D
TinyTim121 @ Jul 2nd 2009 8:16PM
@ K1LLER HORNET (Nice name btw)
Owning shares in Nintendo or equity in the Wii = win!
XGM @ Jul 3rd 2009 6:18AM
Hey quit hating on the Mac's, mine will run the game XD
In all fairness I would still prefer a PS3 version, but i guess it's a good excuse to buy a new gaming rig
AsherR @ Jul 2nd 2009 5:56PM
I assume/hope that the game will allow missions to be completed in a variety of ways.
It's been a LOOOONG time since I played Splinter Cell, but I believe it did allow a few branching paths in each area.
That might make it worth replaying a second time. Still 12 hours is fine for an action game for me.
roger @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:17PM
Fisher still moves too fast when hanging and the execute though cool looking seems to easy. Splinter Cell although not completely realistic was never about the arcadey feeling this one is giving off.
Danjer @ Jul 2nd 2009 5:59PM
Didn't you get the order wrong?
It should be Badass: The Game (aka Splinter Cell: Conviction)
I forgive you!!
Samutz @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:04PM
Shoulda had the DSE lady being choked.
djbuhhda @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:14PM
her name is DSG not DSE lady, and as much as i miss her im afriad she will be gone for ever, or hopefully she will come back one day LOL
Wardo @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:14PM
Let it go man, let it go.
thebigunit622 @ Jul 2nd 2009 7:38PM
For real, guys...start including the tag: badass-the-game on all Conviction posts!
Wardo @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:15PM
Badass: The Game is quickly becoming my most anticipated on the 360.
It makes me proud to be Canadian.
Edicius @ Jul 2nd 2009 7:37PM
Why?
Wardo @ Jul 2nd 2009 7:55PM
The studio making this game is Ubisoft Montreal, which if you may not know is located in Canada.
Reddrive @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:17PM
I still haven't finished Double Agent. I've been told beyond the story it's not worth the time.
MarkHawk @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:18PM
I enjoyed it. In fact it was the only one I finished. The ending wont change your life though.
krimsonhead @ Jul 2nd 2009 7:26PM
you got that backwards, the game is great and fun but the story is mucked.
MarkHawk @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:17PM
I'm sick of 90+ hour games. I look forward to games I get to complete in a week rather then a month...
Damian @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:21PM
I love long games, i like to get my moneys worth. even though i am sure this will be worth it.
uncle jesse @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:29PM
Why do people complain when a game isn't 30+ hours long? Maybe I'm just a bit older and find it hard to squeeze in the hours like I used to, but a 12 hour game will last me a while. I know games like Fallout 3 or Oblivion are amazing, but I don't even bother buying them because I know that I will never finish it when I hear about people sinking in 100+ hours into them. Sucks for me, I guess. I like the shorter games. I can finish it up with a couple of hours here and there and just play some multiplayer when I want. Works for me.
Although, there are exceptions. Mass Effect 2 and the next Legend of Zelda will definitely be purchased! It will just take me a looooong time to finish them, like it did with their respective predecessors.
Sam406 @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:19PM
Is that in the toilet....? No no, I must be seeing things...
Vcize @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:20PM
Sounds about right. I've yet to play any shooter's single player that didn't start getting stale after 8 hours or so. 12 hours is pushing the upper bounds of it, but could still fit in alright.
A lot of games that other people thought were too short (Dark Sector, Gears 2, Uncharted) I actually found to be a little too long.
Vcize @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:22PM
Even Bioshock felt like it dragged on to me, as great as it was. I already felt like it was dragging a bit an hour or so before I got to the big reveal, little did I know I wasn't even half way yet. Plodding through for another 8 hours after I was ready for it to be over left my a lot less excited for the sequel than if it had just ended near the golf club scene.
WREturns @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:16AM
I agree. Bioshock kinda dragged when you were putting the Big Daddy suit together. It just wasn't necessary. However, I thought Gears 2 was paced perfectly.
shadowbender @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:20PM
Well, since DSG was around all day yesterday, and that was July 1st, then July 1st is officially DSG Day, a new holiday.
Don't worry, that day will come.
alienterrorist @ Jul 3rd 2009 5:41AM
But... but thats Canada day! DSG can not replace the awsome that is Canada!
Jrinswand @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:23PM
I wonder what the multiplayer is going to be like. I missed out on Chaos Theory's multiplayer mode, but I thought Double Agent was really fun once you got the hang of it. Actually, multiplayer was pretty much all I played on Double Agent. The campaign pissed me off to no end.
CH3BURASHKA @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:23PM
After Portal, I don't think that we can measure game greatness in hours. It could be a 5 hour experience and still blast your balls off.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:31PM
I don't know if that's true, Portal was included with Team Fortress 2 and the 2 Half Life episodes. I've played Team Fortress a bunch and I beat the 2 episodes. If I had paid $60 just for Portal I would have felt ripped off.
uncle jesse @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:33PM
You would feel ripped off if you had an absolute blast with a game that was 5 hours long, but you loved every minute of it? Weird.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jul 6th 2009 9:24AM
Yep, I would feel ripped off. Especially if it has little replay value or no multiplayer like Portal. I'm just glad Portal came with other things that made it worth $60, because otherwise it's worth at most, $15. Or just a $5 rental.
B3astofthe3ast @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:23PM
I still think it won't come close to surpassing MGS4, but then again, I am a MGS fanboy...
Jesus (PSN: Luttdawg) @ Jul 2nd 2009 7:57PM
I completely disagree and this is coming from a massive ps3 fanboy.
james @ Jul 2nd 2009 10:46PM
at least things are being changed up quite a bit in this one.
if im not mistaken the metal gear gameplay didn't have much innovation between titles :\
ZaxCG2 @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:54AM
The way I see it, Metal Gear is amazing if you get into the wild long storyline. Sure MGS4 is amazing, but you cannot ignore this game. Its doing a lot of things that other action shooters have yet to do.
I would say that it would be a different experience altogether even.
shadowhowl1900 @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:27PM
dont find this too interesting. too easy really when watching the IGN video special where u just mark objects and then press Y and he executes his barrage. Seriously wheres the fun in that?
uncle jesse @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:31PM
Ah, just finish it up. It's not mind blowing, but it's a good game.
uncle jesse @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:31PM
Grrrrr, sorry. That was for Reddrive.
Reddrive @ Jul 2nd 2009 6:38PM
I may do that this weekend. I've got a small stack of games that I need to polish off if only to justify them being purchased.
As for Fallout 3, get it. I was only able to give it two hours at a time, and that really sucked for the first 4-6 hours, but after that, the time will just fly by in that game. I think I'm at hour 80 or so and still not at Lvl 30.
