Brütal Legend's Rocktober release is drawing closer, and the game's creator, Tim Schafer, has tossed us a bone in a pair of developer walkthroughs for the beginning sections of the game over at IGN. Be warned: The videos show off a great deal of content, so if you're trying to avoid spoilers, steer clear. For the rest of you, we suggest you don your spiked bracelet and sleeveless leather vest and peer past the break for some glorious metal action.
I would really like to see a game like this featuring the Metalocalypse characters. Sounds like a good storyline. Anyone know of any other games with a sarcastic undertone? (Overlord etc)? I'm getting into those recently. I can't wait until the new PS2 Jak and Daxter..
The more I see this game, the more I thnk wtf was going on in the Activision exec mind when he canceled this game. I mean wtf, this looks so awesome & its Tim Schafer you know hes going to make something good!! Whatever, Activision is the new mofo EA, they can suck their franchises. After that rant, must say love this game!!
Being more of a video game fan than a heavy metal fan, there are a couple of things that I noticed about some of the gameplay.
The car running over the Druids... It never really ran them over. And while the person demonstrating the game obviously sucked, did you notice how frustrated they got with using the car? They just jumped out of it and hacked away at the tentacles, because they weren't able to run over it precisely.
I dunno, I just get the sense that this game is trying to accomplish A LOT. I hope it can pull it off.
That's kinda nitpicky for a game that is probably four months from delivery. And the car looked like it could be moved precisely - the guy just kept turning at the wrong spot - though he did get it 2 out of 3 times.
Combat looks fun (and way gory) and it has a lot of personality. Looks like they need to lock down the framerate and smooth out the transitions from gameplay to cut scene. Really expressive character models too - can't tell if that's the engine or not (?). Pretty funny too.
Looks like they created a heavy metal mythology and that's pretty cool. Makes me want to bust out my Kiss 'Destroyer' album and some Iron Maiden. Yup, loved it when I was a kid (that stuff still rocks too).
This looks amazing. The voice acting and delivery is better than I was expecting and the combat seems visceral and fluid. Color me impressed, but this was a day one purchase for me anyway.
The dialogues and the facial animations are absolutely hilarious! Although I am usually not a huge fan of action adventures, this pretty much sells it for me! Can't wait to play it!
Yeah, the car controls seemed like they were slightly loose, which I kinda expected (kinda like the vehicles in Jak 2). The collision detection with hitting the druids seemed a little wonky too. I actually thought it was a little lame that they had the monster's tongue stuck that long, instead of sticking for so many seconds and then continuing its attack pattern, but I guess it will work as a lesson of how to defeat bosses in the game by looking for a weak spot (which applies to most video games, really). Oh, and he seemed to kinda move slower than I'm used to at the beginning.
Thats it. Those stupid nitpicky complaints are the only things I saw wrong with this otherwise totally fucking awesome demonstration. The writing(/ad-libbing) and voicework are fucking fantastic, the graphics are impressive, the art design is astounding, and the combat looks fun as hell. That undetermined release date can't come soon enough.
You're not the only one. Jack Black and the heavy metal concept do not appeal to me. But the good thing is that if you don't care about it, there are tons of other games to play and everyone wins.
