Analyst: 2 more GTA IV episodes on the way, GTA V by fiscal 2011
Do you want more Grand Theft Auto? Well, that's what Todd Mitchell, analyst for Kaufman Bros. Equity Research wants. Nay, expects! Speaking to GI.biz, Mitchell stated that he's anticipating two more downloadable GTA IV episodes to launch after The Ballad of Gay Tony. "It's been indicated to me that would be the case," he said. Additionally, with Microsoft's exclusivity deal covering only two episodes, these DLC add-ons may also appear on PS3.
In addition to new GTA IV episodes, the analyst believes GTA V will debut some time in the 2011 fiscal year. The only reason it wasn't announced or teased in any way during E3, he believes, is "Rockstar's track record with delivering on time."
The most curious of statements Mitchell made was regarding the possibility of a new Grand Theft Auto hitting the PlayStation 2 system. No, you read that right. He believes a PS2 port of the PSP port of the formerly DS-exclusive Chinatown Wars may hit the aging Sony system, although he admits he's not too "confident" about that prediction. Pachter, eat your heart out.

I just hope the story in the PSP version is not the same, its not that it wasn't good(It was really good), its just that I want something more to play then the same over again.
Chin-Paaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! @ Jul 3rd 2009 12:36PM
I hope these two new episodes can come to the PC version, as well as Lost and Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony, the PC version is a Games for Windows LIVE title, so the Microsoft exclusivity deal for the first two episodes should fall under it as well.
Heavytoka @ Jul 3rd 2009 12:36PM
Honestly, I've played So much GTA4 That I'm kind of ready to start hearing about the next installment, Not that I don't like DLC, but it's way too late I think.
iluvmyzune @ Jul 3rd 2009 12:37PM
gtav better be set in san andreas
Jerses @ Jul 3rd 2009 12:55PM
I dont think so, all GTA# have been on liberty city. But i do love to see a san andreas 2 or whatever they will call it.
Jesta @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:44PM
Dont you mean london?
ducttapeBigSexy @ Jul 3rd 2009 2:58PM
There already was a San Andreas 2 - it's called Saints Row 2
Ashitaka @ Jul 3rd 2009 3:00PM
That would be Getaway (except better)
xbox420king @ Jul 3rd 2009 8:15PM
I hope its a San Andres 2. Saints Row sucks I want the real S.A. experience online.
j.howlett @ Jul 3rd 2009 12:38PM
maybe things are different in this era of dlc, but i wasn't expecting a 5 till next gen. i'd probably get the ps2 version of chinatown wars if it ever came to pass. i almost pickled up the gold box deal this morning
uncle jesse @ Jul 3rd 2009 12:45PM
Are you planning on keeping and preserving it forever?
coyo t @ Jul 3rd 2009 12:46PM
I'd buy PS2 titles if my PS3 could play them
j.howlett @ Jul 3rd 2009 12:52PM
ha thats a typo. but i still might get the DS version and "borrow" a DS from my niece.
Trep @ Jul 3rd 2009 12:46PM
Just an analyst? Not Pachter? There's no way there's any truth to this!
[tre] @ Jul 3rd 2009 12:52PM
True dat, fellow "tre" in the name.
Mr Khan @ Jul 3rd 2009 12:49PM
No real reason to do a V until the next generation, if we're talking about numbered games only taking place in Liberty City.
A new Vice City, San Andreas, or something somewhere else. Not a proper, new, LC-based V.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 3rd 2009 12:54PM
All I want in V is for it to be fun again. Forget about trying to be too realistic, and just let us do a bunch of crazy shit like in San Andreas. Who wouldn't love jumping out of a helicopter/plane with no parachute and hitting the ground with Euphoria physics?
Pegon_Fighter @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:06PM
you can do that in gta 4 too :|
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:09PM
True, that was a bad example. I could have spent an hour listing all the awesome things SA had that 4 didn't, and I had to use that one :\
Mr. M @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:30PM
Isn't that exactly what you can do in IV?
Mr. M @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:34PM
Excellent, just 30 minutes too late!
But yes, I do agree with you. On one hand, I like that they went for more realism, but they shouldn't have had to sacrifice so many of the 'in GTA only' moments (In lack of a better phrase)..
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:34PM
Kind of. You can't get into an airplane in 4 and fly ridiculously high in the air and then jump :P
Kait @ Jul 3rd 2009 2:00PM
I miss the bicycle. :(
Mr Khan @ Jul 3rd 2009 2:32PM
Are you okay? You seem... different.
Ashitaka @ Jul 3rd 2009 3:22PM
"I miss the bicycle. :("
Same here. Miss the kart and the caddy too :(
Sayed @ Jul 3rd 2009 3:38PM
Why did you leave us Rhino.....WHHHYYYYY!!!
ottoman673 @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:04PM
I want DSG on klebitz's face.
just saying.
DeathroW @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:05PM
The next GTA won't be GTA V, it'll be GTA: SomethingSomething set in another city with an upgraded version of the GTA IV engine, i don't think we will see another full scale GTA on the current gen consoles after that though, then we will go onto GTAV on the next gen systems.
wallywallas @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:34PM
GTA: SomethingSomethingNipplePinchy
uncle jesse @ Jul 3rd 2009 4:02PM
GTA: SomethingSomethingSomethingDarkSide
Mark @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:06PM
Didn't Rockstar say that GTA V would be a PS3 exclusive, as to actualy move the franchise on they had to leave Xbox behind?
http://www.dbtechno.com/gaming/2008/02/25/rockstar-games-beyond-gta-iv-to-be-ps3-exclusive/
Snowblind @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:18PM
Never going to happen. The whole reason the games stopped being exclusive is because they make far more money by releasing them on multiple systems, even Sony throwing money at them couldn't even keep them timed. Even if you have to switch disc for every island on the 360, it's not going to be exclusive.
Also, like others have said, I think it's very unlikely we'll see the next massive GTA game for some time. I imagine we'll see a few more DLC packs for Liberty City, and then they'll move on to a new city, ala GTA: Vice City.
GTA5 itself, probably won't come until the next generation of consoles.
Billop @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:39PM
Might of known youd make a comment like that Snowblind, your a big 360 fanboy. fact is, GTAV could be PS3 Exclusive, or it could not
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:47PM
I agree bilop, snowblind WOULD say the completely rational explanation behind the company's fiscal motivations. What a ravid fanboy
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:58PM
@Mark
I find that rumor to be full of shit for a couple of reasons:
1. That rumor came out in 2007. It's 2009. If this was big news, which it definitely would be if this were true, wouldn't this have been on all major news outlets by now? This is honestly the first time I've heard of this rumor.
2. From a business perspective, it would be pure insanity to screw over 360 owners and just make the next batch of GTA games ps3 exclusive
3. Apparently the rumor had been debunked awhile ago.
dookielord @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:59PM
They were probably refering to the agent which is PS3 exclusive.
eNrique @ Jul 3rd 2009 2:01PM
That is probably Agent.
And sometimes there is more important things than money.
Just saying.
skyzbig @ Jul 3rd 2009 2:01PM
GTA V is never going to be exclusive to one system, PS3 or otherwise...although in Sony's case it's plausible that Sony could get back its timed exclusiveness again given its good relationship with Rockstar.
Or it could be that after developing Agent for PS3, R* find more power or take advantage of Blu-Ray for the PS3 version of GTA V and leave the 360 version with lower textures or something...but GTA is never, ever going platform exclusive.
Given the cost of development now, it would take a monster cheque from Sony or Microsoft to get GTA V exclusive.
Just ain't gonna happen.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Jul 3rd 2009 2:02PM
sorry for the doublepost but:
This was what apparently caused the GTA V rumor:
"A deal with Rockstar to secure the publisher’s next franchise exclusively did Sony. “Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly do only on PS3, harnessing the power of Cell adn Blu-Ray disc, and this deal lets them do just that,” enthusiastically exclaimed Sony’s Michael Shorrock in a statement to the press. Translation: “We handed Rockstar a signed blank check because we were short-sighted enough to let Grand Theft Auto’s exclusivity get away from us. Oops!”"
We now know that it isn't a new GTA game and that the game being mentioned is probably Agent.
-Vexx- @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:07PM
5 by 11 naa.. we will most likely get at least 1 spin off.
Pegon_Fighter @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:08PM
that would be good because then rockstar will use the full adventage of the blue-ray and the cell
Brian @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:38PM
i hope thats sarcasm if you cant spell blu ray
and acting like the games on ps3 have been any better then 360
Billop @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:41PM
@Brian. I agree its probably sarcasam but dont go saying "ps3 games are on Par with 360 games" Its true that most Multiplat games are on par, and even some exclusives are, but you failed to notice: MGS4, Uncharted, LBP, Heavy Rain, InFamous and Killzone 2 just to name a few.
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:52PM
yeah, Billop just pointed out exclusives that aren't on par with 360 games
Billop @ Jul 3rd 2009 2:49PM
Ha...funny (!) Good job i didnt list the 360 exclusives that aren't on par with PS3 games. I doubt i could, i dont think i'd have enough space in the comment box
skyzbig @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:09PM
Wow...I didn't even have to get past the first word to know this would be nonsense...
Nozzinja @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:31PM
lemme hear it from Rockstar or Mr analyst u can GTFO.
I still can't believe they get paid to talk bollox.. their like a goddamn hype man
/Rant!
Nick @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:40PM
I'm not interested in a new GTA. GTA IV is a fantastic game but there was something missing - the fun factor. A gritty storyline and some great characters (some pretty bad characters, though) can't really replace the sheer insanity of the previous ones or Saints Row 2 (which I think hit the nail on the head in terms of being over-the-top and crazy). If the next GTA could capture the fun of its closest competitor and the polish of GTA IV I'll be interested, but if not I'll pass on it.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 3rd 2009 1:54PM
Sounds plausible, although it seems pretty unlikely it would be GTA V and not GTA: Vice City 2 or whatever, although I'm also inclined to think they might just keep liberty city and continue doing new stories there
Ashkental @ Jul 3rd 2009 2:22PM
He's not Pachter...
