No one cares about the difference between infected and zombies. Both are humanoid creatures, barely alive who want to kill you.

You do realize that you're trying to get technical about a fictional, mythic being in modern pop culture, right? Almost nothing in our pop culture could be determined to be a zombie if you want to go by original Afro-Caribbean standards.

Is there any explanation to the back story?
As is what virus is it turning people into zombies?
Or how come certain people become special infected?

Ya know. That makes all the difference when Valve explains things the way they do. Before, their snubby Oompa-Loompa came out all greesy and nasty and stated he just didn't like the hardware. Then they explain that the hardware is just too difficult. But, when they come out finally humbled by the trash talk they're getting simply from gamers who recognize they've got a good game that's got a great idea too it and are renowned. But to finally hear them come out and say, "Really, we just can't do it. Our development team just doesn't have those skills and if we're gonna release a game on the PlayStation 3, we want it to be great!"

That says a lot for me. Other developers need to review this and follow suit. (This doesn't include Naughty Dog, Zipper, Insomniac, Guorilla, Media Molocule, etc. First and some exclusive third party developers are doin great and workin hard, though don't get to full of yourselves, anyone and everyone can always do better,) But, that's what's gonna turn this sour imange of the PlayStation 3 around and make developers money. Quality games that can give an experience like none other. Sonys providing all of that. The PlayStation and PlayStation 2 were known as being the most difficult to develop for, but developers made a lot of money off the PS2, it just took some time ta learn the hardware now its easy.

Good to hear Valves finally up for the challange. Hope to see L4D soon. Though may not be for a while.

Its not entirely baseless. Some in the PC Gaming community feel that Valve is getting greedy by releasing a game so fundamentally similar, and releasing it as a full-scale retail release.

If console gamers were that discriminatory, nothing would ever get done :P

Isn't boycotting "just not buying the game?" or am I mistaken? The only difference is people are telling Valve why they aren't buying the game.

Also, how come its cool to hate on Madden, but not L4D2? Valve is doing the same thing, releasing a slightly updated version of the first game for full-price. Most of this stuff modders can just plop into the original.

I wouldn't consider many of the people boycotting fanboys, so not sure why you implied they all think of themselves as such. Most of them are reasonable consumers that don't think its worth $50.

Eitherway, I'm only responding since I like to sit on a moral high horse and call people idiots. I bought Left 4 Dead, and the Orange Box. Didn't much like any of the games, so I'm boycotting the game for my own reason.

So, cya Valve fanboy, I'm going to go "suck at life" as you refer to it, and play a game I think is worth the money.

I'll buy this game day one. All of you out there who feel like you have something to prove with some lame "boycott" are just going to be missing out. You will accomplish nothing and this game will sell tons. I'm super pumped and I don't know why people are so upset about a sequel to probably the funnest game of last year. I love it and I can't wait for L4D2 AND to continue playing L4D

So they publish one game that doesn't quite make nice with their usual business model, and you are willing to write them off for it? This is Valve, they've done nothing but make awesome games and support them in awesome ways. This is the first time they are "screwing us over." And how are they doing that? Instead of giving us five free levels and a bevy of upgrades for free, they have the balls to go ahead and FINALLY charge us for their hard work.

I'm not happy they are releasing L4D2 so soon either, but give it a rest. The game will be worth every cent.

I have no problem with Valve releasing their game at the price they choose to release it.

I also won't be paying $60 for left 4 Dead. I'll wait till it goes on sale, and pick it up when the price agrees with my wallet.

It is simply a question of value. If you find that Left 4 Dead 2 is worth $60 to you, then enjoy it. Personally, I don't play the first L4D enough to warrant what I paid for it. To me, the sequel isn't worth $60, but value is completely subjective.

I'm surprised I don't see a boycott on Halo 3: ODST or Halo 3: Reach...especially after seeing Halo 3 ODST's price get reconfirmed as a $60 game...

Because ODST is a full-fledged new experience, unlike L4D 1.5. (as I like to call it) As for Reach, how can you boycott somthing you know almost nothing about?

Didn't say I was boycotting it. I know a few people who aren't really too happy with it though. I mean, a lot of people view it as Halo 3 with a new game mode. Also, Halo 3: Reach...I dunno. Seems like the series is getting a bit milked. I mean hell, I like the games, they're fun, but I don't want it to turn into a FF7 type of deal, where there are so many spin-offs, alt-stories, etc.

I'm not sure how to say this, but to me, every game made by Valve after Half-Life 2 seems to be just a well-done mod to Half-Life 2, which is why the games pump out so fast. They recycle what seems to be pretty much everything. I do not think L4D2 should be a fifty or sixty dollar purchase, because it does seem as if it is robbing us of basic features that should have been in the first (Honestly, were Francis, Zoey, Louis, and Bill too stupid to use melee weapons? Did their city just magically have nothing blunt/sharp they could have used?).

On a side note, do you think it was right of Capcom to charge us for Resident Evil 5's versus mode? I don't.

I will buy this but this time i'll wait for the price to drop on steam. I bought at full price to get the demo a week early (sucker), 2 months later they had a free weekend and i think the game was half price! At least I intend to do this anyway. :(

First of all, Valve's games don't come out quickly, as that has been something that everyone has known about them since the first Half-life game came out. That's why this boycott is even happening; they are going away from their original model, which in my opinion, should be left behind because this gives me more to do. I've already gotten most of the achievements in L4D, and I'm ready for a new experience. They will have maximized the engine to give us more infected, more levels, more weapons, bump the polys up a little, just giving us a more immersive experience.

And for all the people who don't think this is a full sequel but think it's L4D 1.5 instead, you are mistaken. Gears of War 2 was almost identical in every way to Gears 1 but with more enemies and a slightly better looking game. They added Horde mode, but that just didn't give me much more enjoyment, and multi-player for a third-person shooter is just lacking for me. They were so similar, but yet no one complained because the experience was worth it and it took 3 years to come out. Well, it's funny that Valve has been working hard since L4D came out and have made a better-in-every-way sequel in 1/3 the time of Gears of War or Halo, but we should be 3 times as thankful!

And just to set the record straight, Halo 3: ODST is using the Halo 3 engine albeit slightly optimized, but Halo: Reach, from everything we know, is not using it but will be using a new engine designed by Bungie and might even employ the new Project Natal, so don't think Bungie is getting too greedy just yet. Bungie and Valve are 2 of the best developers out there and deserve a level of respect they simply aren't getting here.

I always had problems with randoms, too. Esp. since people never use the freaking headsets and so they can't explain why they're off in some corner jerking off while a horde approaches.

However, my biggest beef is getting TK'd every single quickmatch game until finally I found a guy who kept sticking with me throughout games and wasn't a douche. I heart him.

I think that Valve has done a great job of explaining themselves about L4D2. The first one was a lot of fun. Apparently, I've had a lot better luck at quickmatches than a lot of you, but that's the roll of the dice, I guess.

Yeah haha, the same crap goes down on PC. It may be even worse because of the clan-whores... 4 clan members meeting up as humans and slaughter the crap out of you. They think they're real special because they're killing a bunch of pubs with no mics.

Holy hell... this is going to be even worse on L4D2... I can feel it.
Better find your other 3 friends now.

Quit your bitching about what "should have" been in the first game. It takes a substantial investment of time and money to create a game, in my opinion they did it right the first time around and I'm very excited to see what they have in store for us this time. Try to enjoy the game for what it is instead of dwelling on what could have been. Valve has made some impressive advancements in the past and I'm sure we won't be disappointed with their newest project.

Question for the boycotters.

What should the sequel have that it doesn't?

- 5 New Campaigns (working in all modes)
- New Mode (yet to be revealed)
- Improved story with stronger narrative
- New Characters
- New Weapons (including a whole new class of melee weapons)
- New Ammo Choices
- New Zombie Types
- New Special Infected
- Improved Gameplay through balancing and level design (as learned from L4D and how the community plays)
- Improved graphics and damage modeling that factors into gameplay
- High potential for compatibility with L4D (I imagine like Rock Band 1 songs being downloaded to Rock Band 2)

Quit your F%&*KING whining! It is a sequel. Last I checked developers weren't in the business of releasing updates that are bigger and better than the original game.

The boycotters are likely the big fans of the original. Did you not get $60 value out of the original? I am willing to bet you did.

With the huge list of improvements for L4D2, you shouldn't have any trouble getting $60 value out of it either. Get a job, grow a pair, stop your stupid whining and buy and enjoy the game.

"Rule of thumb: always buy the PC version of Valve games."

This. One hundred times over. Do not buy a valve product on anything but PC if you actually want an ever-expanding, always popular product.

Though honestly, I've always been lukewarm toward console online multiplayer. If it isn't a super popular mainstream title, you're not finding anyone online after the first week after the game's release.

1 source engine is constantly being updated and redone valve just chooses to not rename it each time. thus halflife 2 would have been done under the source 1.5 version of the engine.
and then halflife episode 2 under the 2.5 version of the engine, is that simple enuf for your people who have your heads where the sun dont shine and have no clue as to what you spout off and post about?

2 l4d2 is a sequel just like dawn of the dead is a sequel to night of the living dead diaries of the dead is a sequel to day of the dead, none of those movies are the same or have the same characters but they occur in the same WORLD at near or at the same time as the previous movies. thus the black and white version of night of the living dead even though its dated and old is still the original title of the franchise and land of the dead would be a damn good SEQUEL.

3 the boycott is a loosely formed group of crybaby spammers griefers ragequitters and,
in general childish people who just have no life and cruise the steam forums spamming and flaming everyone and everything. ive been reading almost everything on l4d andl4d2 in the steam forums and watched it start back with the tards who started the chigago ted failmeme when that was quashed as a retarded concept they started to tear apart valve for versus maps and bugs and exploits. look at the people in the group there are half alt accounts that have 0 posts or just joined the forums in the last month PLEASE if you boycott go for it. just stop lying about what valve has said and done.

and lastly the ps3 should NOT have l4d or l4d2 its called exclusives. the only reason xbox got ports is because its microsoft product. and as for EA running valve? hmmm roflmfao!!!! ok again please if youre a idiot who posts false things they have read on obscure forums or in other comment sections... do us all a favor and hold your breath until a port of l4d comes out for the ps3 please?

and finally true hardcore gamers tend to have PC's and consoles. but for actual top of the line graphix and gameplay, plus extra features and ease of use you gotta use a pc
no console can touch my pc for graphix fps or gameplay choices NONE!

sure consoles are fun for sports games and the wii totally exemplifies what console gaming is all about. but for multiplayer games its a pc world and the consoles are too far behind to ever compete in that ring with a pc. kb/mouse >< console controller? dont matter because you can use a kb mouse with a console and a controller with a PC its a moot point.

there please read and understand and KNOW wtf you are talking about before you spout false info and lies and in general stop being tards about l4d2
