Visceral explains the controls of Dead Space Extraction
The footage showcased in the latest dev diary highlights some of the best visuals we've seen on Wii so far. One of the co-op segments highlighted in the video combines puzzle-solving and monster-blasting in a rather smartly designed (and terrifying) way. Even worse, the two players will have to switch off during the puzzle as enemies continue to jump in. With so many clever ideas being thrown about, Extraction may have a shot at making us all scream in terror.

Does that mean DSG will return?

I must say, I think RE: Darkside Chronicles visuals are already looking even better!

This is certainly some neat competition taking place here. Two power house developers/publishers going toe to toe at the same time in the same genre on the same console attempting earning our hard earned dollars!

I miss Dead Space Girl, she made all the news articles better. Especially on slow news days...
Ordeith @ Jul 3rd 2009 8:52PM
agree.
This story was a good excuse to bring her back.
Cypher @ Jul 3rd 2009 5:15PM
Dead Space Girl is dead. She's gone. But she's right there haunting Joystiq's subconcious, and there in the Internet's nightmares! She lives on as a part of memes! If you're gonna post, post to the heavens. No matter what's in your way, don't won't stop! Once you've convinced Joystiq to bring her back, it means you've won! Just who the hell do you think she is?
supersonic159 @ Jul 3rd 2009 5:16PM
I was hoping for her to show up in at least this video, but she didn't
Caleb K @ Jul 3rd 2009 5:31PM
Wasn't that her at 0:25?
CBAkiba25 @ Jul 3rd 2009 5:20PM
I expect to see Dead Space Girl when the game comes out. Mainly cuz they have a reason to post the boxart.

no FPS mode in full 3-d, no sale to this cracker. it's on rails, let me guess - point and clickclickclickclickclickwaggleclickclickclickclickwaggleWAGGLEMOAR
survival horror is not scary when on rails.
sorry ea, not really.
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jul 3rd 2009 5:26PM
wait........wha?
MowDownJoe @ Jul 3rd 2009 5:36PM
You don't think it'll be scary when the game controls the pace rather than you?
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 3rd 2009 5:38PM
I wasn't aware survival horror even exists anymore. Even Condemned 2 wasn't nearly as creepy as the first one was, even though it was a launch title.
Petebot330 @ Jul 3rd 2009 6:10PM
@tmac: it looks like Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is going to be a kind of old-school survival horror. Apparently, there is no way to fight the enemies. You just have to run. Terrified. I guess the main goal is the mystery of what's going on. Your remote is the flashlight and the static comes through your remote too.
Mr Khan @ Jul 3rd 2009 6:25PM
Oddly enough, outside of Dead Space itself, real survival horror seems to only be on the Wii at this point, with Fatal Frame IV (though that seems like its Japan only forever at this point), Ju-On, Silent Hill, Cursed Mountain, etc.
Jeremy @ Jul 3rd 2009 5:27PM
i like how it says they weren't trying to make the controls nonsensical and right after he says that it shows them both waggling the wiimote just to turn on a glowstick that lasts 10-12 seconds. imagine waving your right hand in the air every 10-12 seconds while trying to play this game. Real smart guys.
incubeezer @ Jul 3rd 2009 5:51PM
I noticed that too. The guy doing it, is he really having that much fun waggling the wii remote? Does it really get you into the game? I'd say no.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Jul 3rd 2009 5:54PM
I guess you forgot the part where it mentions that you'll only really need to do that when it's pitch dark.
Davey @ Jul 5th 2009 12:18PM
I know, this video really gives a disturbing insight into the cluelessness of third-party Wii developers:
"We were excited about the unique controls and what they brought to the gamer".
Cue shot of annoying, tiresome shaking of the controller.
"... what controls felt natural and most fun for the gamer."
Cue shot of annoying, tiresome shaking of the controller.
"We didn't want to get into a situation where we were making the player wave their hands all over the place all the time for nonsensical reasons. We wanted to make sure that when you're actually doing a gesture it resonates with what you're doing in the game."
Cue shot of annoying, tiresome shaking of the controller.
Injulen @ Jul 3rd 2009 6:20PM
I think this game is looking good. I don't have a Wii but I look forward to playing this on a friend's system sometime.
Mr Khan @ Jul 3rd 2009 6:25PM
Saying a game is compatible with the Zapper when you have to waggle the Nunchuk separately just isn't right.
ChromeAlchemist @ Jul 3rd 2009 8:03PM
I still hate that word. It's just so...dirty.
Eugh. >_>
I still have a love hate relationship with these damn rail shooters. I hate the fact that they are rail shooters, and I hate the fact that I enjoy them.
Huh. Guess it's a hate hate relationship then. Also don't you find it funny that when it's a regular news report, a handful of people comment. Something controversial, and we get 100plus comments?
P.S. Khan, check me on The Escapist, same name, check the place out it's where I frequent, you might enjoy it there.
CJLopez @ Jul 4th 2009 3:58PM
i'd rather use the nyko's perfect shot
Chris @ Jul 3rd 2009 11:07PM
"Man up sweetheart!".....? Whoa guys, misogyny is pretty scary.
