TMNT: Turtles in Time: Through the Ages: A Comparison Video
92
You know what the best thing about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time is? Throwing enemies into the screen. Thankfully, that feature is retained in the upcoming XBLA remake. The HD remake is obviously going to be a much prettier version of the original game -- but how good does it really look? The fine folks at GameVideos have made a stellar comparison video that highlights the sleek new look of this 2.5D remake. Watch all the way to the end to see how even the voice overs have -- for better or for worse -- changed.

The animations on the new one look really good, but I wish they would have kept the vibrant colors of the original. It looks kind of drab.

Yeah like it's all full of bloom and pastels. Ugh.

Yeah. They need more color. Other than that it looks great.

What this game really needs is some TEXTURES. The turtles and enemies look like a bunch of early PS1 polygons with better anti-aliasing.

It looks...
ok, actually.
I have very very fond memories of the original, so i'll take to this cautiously.

Cautiously, indeed!
The mechanics are slower, they added a diagonal & vertical dimension, and the foot soldiers are no longer ruthless! They seem to carefully approach you... WTF!?
I would take the original arcade version instead, even though it's inferior to the SNES version!!!
[end rant]

On closer observation: why are the foot letting out groans & moans?

That's pretty much my feeling, too. It looks alright, but I kept finding myself favoring the original. Maybe it's just the nostalgia doing the talking.
I also really hate the silly cartoon SFX in the new one. the art style is so...er...well, next-gen dark and serious that they seem really out of place and awkward. I suspect I'm going to cringe every time I hear them when I play it.
I want to see more still but I'll more than likely buy it, hoping for the best.

I don't know why they said "The HD remake is obviously going to be a much prettier version of the original game." The 3D graphics are clearly made to a lower standard than the original 2d artwork.

Wow that actually looked pretty impressive in action, can't wait to get it whenever it comes out. It's been too long since I bought an XBLA.

Looks like it lost its soul. Hopefully it contains the original in there somewhere, shame on them if it doesn't (and judging by the lack of a Konami logo, I'm guessing it isn't). I'm still mad BC: Rearmed didn't contain the original NES or Arcade game, but at least Rearmed was an improvement in every sense of the word. Whereas this looks like it will be a complete melee... Running around in 3D is a poor way to emulate the effortless plane switching on a 2D Beat 'em Up.

+1 for nostalgia. The updated look and animations aren't doing it for me.

I think they'll have both - if recent trends are any indication. Defender, R-Type, and Missle Command among others all offer a choice of old school or the new.
Playes Streets of Rage 1 & 3 the other day for hours w/ a friend. The fun.

The animations look great, and I don't mind the new graphics. But I've heard worrying things about the gameplay, it definitely seems different, but as long as it plays well, I don't mind if it's a little different.
I really don't understand why they took out the song, it was cheesy, but awesome. So yeah, I'm a little worried that these new developers just don't get it, and could end up completely messing this up.

That probably isn't going to matter because the remake is based on the the arcade version of the game. The first Shredder boss was only in the Super Nintendo version (as was that entire Technodrome level). I suppose it's possible that they might be doing a mix of the two games, but all the videos I've seen so far point to the arcade version.

The better have it in. That's one of my all time favorite boss fights. Anyway my brother and I rented the SNES version at least 20 times, so I'm looking forward to this no matter what.

Believe me when I first heard this remake was happening, the first thing I though was "I hope it's based on the SNES version," because there are a lot of thing I think the SNES version had over the arcade such as a greater distinction between the turtles' effectiveness. Check the wiki if your interested to know the differences:

It's pretty darn close. I played the alpha build at one of the TMNT 25th Anniversary stops and really enjoyed it. One thing of note is that you are no longer limited to just attacking to the right or left. You have a full 360 degree range of attack now.
Metalhead looks a lot better in that video than in the build I played. It'll be cool to see what else has improved.

(Disclaimer: This game is an XBLA remake of a much older TMNT videogame BEFORE the 4Kids TV bastardization of my beloved turtles. Not a BRAND NEW brand new TMNT game. Your cooperation isn't necessary.)

Metalhead looks way cooler in the original than in the new one. Doesn't look like the cartoon or the toy in the new one.

I dunno, I'm still hesitant to get it. I don't like the look of the new version and it looks to be a bit faster. Of course like the rest of you I'm extremely biased since i too grew up in the Turtles Time. This isn't a game that should have been re-made. Re-released with something to make look a bit cleaner on big tvs and online multiplayer would be awesome. Though i'm glad they seem to be keeping the music.
