TMNT: Turtles in Time: Through the Ages: A Comparison Video
90
You know what the best thing about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time is? Throwing enemies into the screen. Thankfully, that feature is retained in the upcoming XBLA remake. The HD remake is obviously going to be a much prettier version of the original game -- but how good does it really look? The fine folks at GameVideos have made a stellar comparison video that highlights the sleek new look of this 2.5D remake. Watch all the way to the end to see how even the voice overs have -- for better or for worse -- changed.

An HD Remix would be too pretty!!
People wouldn't get past the first level.
Look at the title screen!

I'll stick to my old school version, animated sprites just look better than these textured models imo.

Metalhead actually managed to mangle the turtles?

Oh damn. I thought the only changed level was the future hoverboard one. That's a shame; I'll miss the chance to throw those Foot Soldiers into Shredder's face in HD. :(

Any Release date?
also I think they made the enemies heads way to big, almost looks like a Egg-Head remember that movie?

I see so little difference that I don't see the purpose of the remake.

Looks great, Ubisoft!
Really hope you guys retain the "Winners Don't Use Drugs" screen at the opening, just for old times sake. I remember seeing that slogan on many arcade games back in the day - and lo and behold, I never used drugs! :)
...
I haven't heard too much else on this game, but I'm hoping the multiplayer allows for online multiplayer and not just local multiplayer. I also hope the price is nice - no more than 10 bucks.

I miss the footsoldiers splatting against the screen. I hope they include that, that was one of my favorite parts of the game.

huh, just played it and you're right, they don't splat against the screen except for the shredder level(where you toss them at Shredder and they damage him, not really a splat, though). I don't know why, but I recall having them smack into the screen a couple of times in the game when I was little. Weird.

Whoa after further inspection the old version looks 100 times better than the polygon version.
To bad they could not vectorize the art work and give us the original art in HD.

Looking at them side-by-side, I prefer the older one. Its more vibrant and energetic. The new one looks really bland.

Ah, I love good old beat-em-ups.
Quicker response and cell shading would've been badass, but I'll probably end up buying this anyway, if only to feel better about playing the original on an emulator all these years.

Looks good, however I don't think the added diagonal dimension will play as well as the old school "face the right way and be in the right vertical position" (most recently seen in Castle Crashers by me).

So is there an option to play it with the original graphics? This "re-shelled" version doesn't look very interesting or as artistic as the original.
I still prefer TMNT 1. Turtles in Time has a very boring level layout (always a straight line to the right) that gets old after a while, it doesn't have the diagonal streets/elevators of the original.

sure, the animations are nice and fluid but that doesn't make the graphics less ugly.

It looks nice, but those blasted comic book sound effects are REALLY distracting and seem completely out of place, to me.
I agree with Shmill - a reissue would have been much nicer. :C

I'll buy just about anything with the TMNT name on it. The only thing that really concerns me about the remake is the 360 degree attack directions. I don't know if it makes the game easier, harder or what... But when Metalhead dropped down in the new version, I was like "damn, he looks badass..."

It's too bad this is based on the arcade version and not the SNES with the expanded levels.
The 3D graphics actually look worse than the 2D sprites. The sprites at least had character.

First of all, the arcade version is much better than the SNES version for the simple reason that the arcade version has Cement Man. The SNES version only had one added level, and it sucked. Why add the technodrome to the game when it was already in the first one? If they were going to add levels they should have added a new time period, like the ice age or ancient Rome or something.
Second, the 4K!ds version is not a bastardization, it's actually one of the only things that 4K!ds has done right. It's much closer to the comics that the 80s cartoon ever was.

It looks pretty and cel shaded-y but it could be more vibrant. Also, I think it would have been best if they just put all the updated pretty-ness over the original game mechanics. They are flawless as is. Nevertheless, this looks very well done, in my opinion.

I am also very hesitant here. But then again, there is always the option to try a demo first. Plus the 1200 points for this game also leave me a bit worries. The last time I spent that much on a game on XBLA is for an ORIGINAL 2D beat em up and that was Castle crashers.

I don't like the look of the new one as much as the old, they should have just made it like the HD SF2 rather than 3D and I liked the goofy boss voices, they shouldn't have changed them but I guess all that really matters is if it plays like the original in which case I'll get it when it comes out on the PSN
