Doug Lombardi has told Joystiq that a multiplayer demo for Valve's Left 4 Dead 2 is planned for both the Xbox 360 and PC. According to Valve's PR guru, users who pre-order the upcoming zombie survival title at "participating retailers or [via] Steam" will gain "advanced access to the demo," which will eventually land on both platforms for all users prior to the game's November 17 launch.
Speaking with OXM at a recent London preview event, Lombardi discussed the strength of Left 4 Dead's "word of mouth," which has presumably fueled the need for a demo to the sequel. With groups calling for a boycott of Left 4 Dead 2 due to lack of content support for the original title, a demo may be the best way for Valve to prove why it believes its sequel warrants a full price tag. Although, strong pre-order numbers tell us the game is already on pace to decimate sales charts like a zombie tank.

I downvoted you, but it's not because I'm a "blind fanboy." I've never played Left 4 Dead. It's because you offered poorly articulated criticism without any proof, and then decided to insult everyone for not agreeing with your point of view.
Sounds like something a jackass would do, doesn't it?

You really needed to play it in 4 player for it to be fun.. the (Competitive?)Multiplayer was rubbish, if anyone left, as the AI didn't fill in on the Infected side..
What stopped me playing was something about the game gave me headaches, I was fine there was chatter on the headset, but Live's party system stops in-game team chat (or so it looks to me), so I can only go one 'story' before I had to stop playing

Gee, I guess I'm such a blind fanboy as I really had fun with game and feel I easily got my money's worth. Multiplayer was great fun and the game is a wonderful homage to the zombie film genre.

Valve have always, and I do mean always, been hated for their business practices. Sure, their games are always good, but they've only been painted as some kind of godly, lovable, company that gives its customers great deals recently because they decided to pack a few games together back in 2007.
When they started buying mod teams and selling their mods at retail, people hated them. When they constantly released unwanted updates gimping all of their multiplayer games, people hated them. When they released Steam, people hated them. When they updated their old multiplayer games to their new engine, people hated them. Now people hate them for this.
Let's not be under any illusion, they've been the subject of nerd rage for 11 years now. I don't see that changing because of their new found console popularity and having become media darlings.

My issue isn't so much that they don't get any criticism. It's a bit more about how they don't seem to be criticized as strongly as other companies, but mostly about what happens when these kinds of controversies finish. EA repeatedly pulled crap like this, and while people will often forget a lot of individual issues they had with the company they can still remember it having a bad history and pulling a lot of crap overall. Capcom's gained a reputation for whoring and rehashing their games, as has Square-Enix. Nintendo STILL has a reputation for making "kiddie" games because of censorship they stopped doing in the mid '90s. All those big companies have done questionable things and have paid for them in a major loss to their public image. But Valve? Valve does something like announce an L4D sequel to be released within a year of the original and people get pissed off at that, but as soon as that controversy's passed? Suddenly, Valve are perfect again. Suddenly, they return to being a company that rarely, if ever, wrongs their customers, and who should be loved and supported as much as possible.
My biggest issue is that, like I said earlier, Valve gets a free pass. If anyone else in this industry screws their customers hard enough or on a regular basis, they're eventually remembered as a company that does so for ages afterwards. If Valve screws their customers hard enough AND on a regular basis, they get away with it because people revert back to being massive fans as soon as they cool off from the current controversy. Valve is basically in a position where they can do whatever they like without any long-term consequences, and it's because they KNOW they are that they seem to be getting even worse.

I'm not falling for this again. As big as a fan I was for L4D, I'll wait for the 50% sale (and, yes, I know that Amazon had L4D 1 for $24 preorder when it came out, hopefully it'll be the same for L4D 2).

As much as I want to love this game it isn't what I dig. Too arcade like for me and nothing like what could be THE ZOMBIE GAME. I wish someone would make a co-op game like GTAIV meets 28 Days Later. How cool would that be, super cool. Even better if you're co-op squad could run into others online and have squads of real people fight the undead to an extraction point. So many possibilities.

Well, it's because it seems that gamers today prefer simplicity over ingenuity and originality. Look at Resident Evil:Outbreak. That, in my opinion, was my ultimate zombie game. Different characters with different personalities, as well as special abilities. The ability to combine weapons and healing items, and each character helped the team out its own unique way.... but very few people liked it. Why? Because it was too complicated. Instead of being patient and looking for different ways to approach something, most gamers jut wanted to pick up a controller and rack up kills. And if you have a game that is as complicated as RE:O, the gap between new and skilled players are greater, and most likely skilled players will end up teaming with inexperienced ones. I think that's why developers like to keep things simple: less time and work, and bridge the gap between many players as possible.

I really don't understand the hubub over "lack of support" for L4D or the claims that L4D2 will make L4D obsolete. Perhaps Valve plans continued support for both games at the same time. To me, the biggest difference between the games are the characters and themes. I can honestly see myself popping L4D back in after I play L4D2, simply because I'd rather shoot zombies at night.

Well I think Valve has made a pretty bad move with Left 4 Dead, but thanks to their legendary games of Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 2, and so on, I will forgive them.
I think these boycotters need to give Valve a chance too - I think I'll pre-order the game since I'm looking forward to this version, it looks much better, however if they screwed up here too then...I think I'm done with Valve, buying future games would be the last thing on my mind.
But I believe in Valve. :]
