Discover The Secret of Monkey Island (again) on July 15
Mighty pirates and lowly flooring inspectors alike are encouraged to sign up for a return trip to the shores of Monkey Island on July 15th, when a remastered version of the adventure classic arrives on Xbox Live Arcade and PC (via Steam and other online distribution channels). The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition sees that lovable display of ineptitude, Guybrush Threepwood, rendered in splendid HD graphics, surrounded by newly recorded voices and ... fired out of a cannon with a pot on his head. That part's still the same.LucasArts has yet to announce a price for the point-and-clicker, but if there's anything our encounters with the dreaded ghost pirate LeChuck have taught us, it's that you should never pay more than $20 for a computer game.

Good thing it's coming out for PC. I love Monkey Island, but I'd hate to play it without a mouse.
CaveDan @ Jul 6th 2009 1:50PM
Yeah, I don't see this being as "interactive" feeling without the freedom of a mouse.
Damian @ Jul 6th 2009 2:40PM
Yeah the fast paced action of adventure games make it IMPOSSIBLE to even play this on consoles.
On a more serious not, are you joking?
If not, then i pray for you.
Damian @ Jul 6th 2009 2:41PM
Fucking Console Communists, they are not free like PC.
Anam @ Jul 6th 2009 3:24PM
I can't speak for this game in particular, but many point-and-click adventure games have required quick reactions to events happening in real time.
Some adventure games indeed would be impossible or nearly impossible with a controller (unless they slowed down the events to allow more time or something like that).
Otis @ Jul 6th 2009 3:53PM
"Fucking Console Communists, they are not free like PC."
Actually, the PC is more like Communism, because it's free.
The consoles are more capitalist, because almost everything isn't free.
CaveDan @ Jul 6th 2009 5:39PM
Nah, this one doesn't have any "quick-reflex" kind of things (If I remember correctly, but I doubt that since I played this over a decade ago) but why place a controller where a mouse is better suited? Sure it still works just the same, but I like the quick precise control of a mouse better for something like this. That's all :)
fealuinix @ Jul 6th 2009 10:25PM
***SPOILERS***
There are few moments requiring quick action, but one that comes to mind vividly is running cup-dissolving grog to Otis' jail cell. That one took me several tries. If I recall correctly, spraying Le'Chuck with root beer also has to be done quickly, as well as grabbing the herring from the seabird.
Alex @ Jul 6th 2009 1:53PM
I'm hoping for a $10 price point *crosses fingers*
spuddpotatto @ Jul 6th 2009 2:00PM
for 10 bucks i'd get it for sure.
Snowblind @ Jul 6th 2009 2:01PM
Not a chance.. they've completely re-done the graphics, music and added voice work.
AwesomeTown @ Jul 6th 2009 2:27PM
Ha, yea, I'll be wishing for that, too. Though the game is well worth $20, I think $15 would be a lot better. It would entice more people who don't know anything about Monkey Island (people I try not to acknowlege), and keep more of these remakes coming.
Saria the Cat @ Jul 6th 2009 6:41PM
I agree, I think $20 would be too much to attract buyers who've never played it and just see this is as a re-release of an ancient game.
I am also cheap.
Gregorius @ Jul 6th 2009 2:00PM
Awesome, I can't wait.
Chin-Paaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! @ Jul 6th 2009 2:05PM
I've never tried out this series, looks like now is a good time to jump in.
MystileArmor @ Jul 6th 2009 2:27PM
This game is amazing man, you'll love it.
One of the best games ever made.
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Jul 6th 2009 2:54PM
Play Curse of Monkey Island. NOW.
Don't play Escape. It kind of plays like Grim Fandango, only not as good.
dantebk @ Jul 6th 2009 2:06PM
Though I consider this game one of the best of all time, considering I already own it on CD-ROM and can play it anytime I want via SCUMMVM, I don't think I'd buy this for more than $10. If it's more than that, hopefully it will come up for a Deal of the Week or something soon.
MLS @ Jul 6th 2009 2:07PM
Have the wiiware rumors come any closer to truth? Because, yeah I refuse to play these with analog sticks/d-pad.
Access Granted @ Jul 6th 2009 2:07PM
I'll gets this since I missed out on the old one! looks pretty good!
Latin_Trident @ Jul 6th 2009 2:07PM
For a second there when I read "it's that you should never pay more than $20 for a computer game.", I read "you should never pay for a computer game."
Anyways, remaster Full Throttle and I'm all in!
capt_carl @ Jul 6th 2009 2:14PM
The Dig too.
SidearmS @ Jul 6th 2009 2:13PM
"LucasArts has yet to announce a price for the point-and-clicker, but if there's anything our encounters with the dreaded ghost pirate LeChuck have taught us, it's that you should never pay more than $20 for a computer game."
And if they try and slam that $20 price point through, this game will fail bigtime. Save that "Dead Space Girl" picture for this game's pricing annoucement.
People have not been too thrilled with $20/1600 price points. You do not hear about how well one of those games sell - remember the annoucement when Bionic Commando Rearmed was released? The game came out, and the next week you had Ben Judd annoucing they had sold 130,000 copies of the game. That one was $10. The only one I can think that had some fanfare to it was Penny Arcade Vol 1, and that was because the high price allowed them to have the biggest XBLA launch at the time.
Not being a hater, just stating that $20 digitial download games are not the ones you hear the most about - unless they screwed something up (Trine pricing...)
XBox 360 - Speaking of never paying over $20 for a computer game, how do you all you buyers of the first Left 4 Dead feel now?
capt_carl @ Jul 6th 2009 2:14PM
You fight like a dairy farmer!
Marty @ Jul 6th 2009 2:20PM
How appropriate, you fight like a cow!
Shagittarius @ Jul 6th 2009 2:44PM
I will milk every drop of blood from your body!
SidearmS @ Jul 6th 2009 2:21PM
And literally moments after I submit my prior post, Destructoid reports the game will be $9.99/800 MS Points.

Smart Lucasarts, smart. Do not drive off you audience and you will get sales.
XBox 360 - Now, let's see if it can sell 130,000 copies.
Psychofemm @ Jul 6th 2009 3:06PM
don't tease me with awesome price points...and links to articles for proof.
Still....
I can't help but think this can't be true. sounds too good....
either way.. must buy on day 1.
Marty @ Jul 6th 2009 2:22PM
I like that they took the time to update the graphics and sound, but I hope it doesn't come off looking cheap. Either way, I'm looking forward to this - I've loved every Monkey Island game so far (with the possible exception of 4 and it's horrible, horrible bugs), so picking this one up seems like a no-brainer.
I think it's been long enough since I've last played the original so that I might have forgotten how to solve some of the puzzles, as well.
Neuromancer @ Jul 6th 2009 2:23PM
Wow $10, that's a no-brainer. I am definately picking this one up.
freaparn @ Jul 6th 2009 2:27PM
While I whole-heartedly support the update as it makes a classic widely available in an easy to access format... what the bloody hell happened to Guybrush's bouffant? It looks like those godawful abominations people sported in the early 90s when it was momentarily chic for men to have giant, "floopy" parts in their hair.
Courtney @ Jul 6th 2009 2:34PM
I'll buy it day one, even if I don't have the time to play it right away. I certainly want to support them releasing (and remastering) more great titles. I managed to lose my PC collection of most of the old classics, so I'm definitely looking forward to revisiting them.
On the issue of control on the 360 vs a PC, I think it will really depend on how they handle it. I though Sam and Max controlled very nicely and naturally on the 360 while I really struggled with Wallace and Grommit. The adventure controls can work well on a console, just depends on the game.
Jeremiah Moon @ Jul 6th 2009 2:43PM
Man, I love Monkey Island, but that new art style is frighteningly bad. It's a good thing they made an option to play it with the original look.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 6th 2009 2:53PM
Well it's not the announcement i hoped for, but still awesome
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 6th 2009 2:55PM

Considering the 15th of July is my birthday, this is an excellent birthday present for me.
garnsr @ Jul 6th 2009 6:41PM
Ooh, can't wait. I haven't played this since Sega CD, and it controlled fine. Wish it were PS3, too, instead of 360, but I'll get it anyway.
AlpahGeeeK @ Jul 6th 2009 7:36PM
Hell yes. 800 points is a no-brainer!
NeoX360 @ Jul 6th 2009 11:37PM
Sweet. I still have All the original PC-CD CROM versions of the Monkey Island games, including the 3D sequel Escape. I have to admit, that I had some good times playing through Monkey Island all those years ago. It is great to finally see a revival of all the LucasArts adventure games. Can't wait to see a remake of Full Throttle!
BLee @ Jul 7th 2009 1:26AM
I'll be buying this for the PC.. first PC game I've bought since.. Escape from Monkey Island.. actually I bought wc3.. but still.. I rarely buy PC games..
come out for the PSN too on future iterations please :)
