Microsoft confirms 1 vs 100 prizes start Friday, July 10; more details about continuing beta
Microsoft has confirmed the news from Friday that the 1 vs 100 beta marches on; meanwhile, skill-based prizes for the mob and "The One" (up to 10,000
/ $125) will begin this Friday, July 10, in the US and Canada. There is also a second sweepstakes going on for an HDTV and Zune, where players win an entry for "every question they answer" in the Live show and during Extended play.
A company rep also informed us that the beta season is "scheduled to run for 13 weeks and began on June 1." By our Roman calendar calculations, that means the "real" season begins in September.
Addendum: Once again, prizes aren't available for residents of Connecticut, Iowa, Maryland, Vermont, and the great province of Quebec.

I tried this out a few weekends ago, and was pleasantly surprised at how entertaining it was. Playing with friends, either in the same room or not, is a blast, and it'll be interesting to see how things go with the game finally spitting out prizes.
? @ Jul 6th 2009 7:31PM
It is a great entertaiment for everyon. But, there are a great number of ppl that I keep seeing in the top 3 every round we play. I think is very hard to even get to the top 20. even if you answer the first 10 questions right you still behind the top 5 by a big margin of points. it is a tough crowd man. sometimes you might say "this is bull shit" lol. I just don't see many many many of us in the mob or as the one. I think if you been part of the mob or the one MS should not allow them to be the mob or the one untill the next season. Overall the whole games is fun. sometimes it makes you feel so smart and others so dumb. lol
copa @ Jul 6th 2009 5:44PM
"I think is very hard to even get to the top 20."
Whenever I have logged into a live show there are between 80,000 and 100,000 players on.
I really don't understand why in every Joystiq thread on this game people are complaining about how hard it is to get into the top 3, or the top 20. It's going to be hard, people.
aggrazel @ Jul 6th 2009 5:53PM
Yeah but have you seen the scores of the top 20 people? they are impossibly high. We're talking a sub 2ms response time. Thats inhuman.
Vidikron @ Jul 6th 2009 6:02PM
Those freaks out there really only keep you from winning the prizes given out for being in the top 3 from the crowd. As Copa points out, even if there weren't robots playing it would still be extremely difficult due to the sheer numbers. Your best hope to be selected as the one or for the mob. At that point you no longer have to worry about answering questions insanely fast, you just need to be correct.
aggrazel @ Jul 6th 2009 6:05PM
Yes but I wish there was some way to make it more fair. My TV already inflates my response time by 20ms. Then there's internet lag. All I mean is, they should raise the "fastest" cap up by a bit. That way someone answering in 100ms scores the same as someone answering in 50ms.
Marty @ Jul 6th 2009 6:18PM
Personally, I don't think they're going to allow the same three people to continue to win prizes over and over. That would turn people off to it, and the only way it is successful is if everyone feels they have a chance to win, even if it is slight.
Rocketboy @ Jul 7th 2009 4:07PM
Heck, just get rid of the fastest time, and cut the time bonuses.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 6th 2009 5:14PM
With prizes I'll finally have an excuse to play this again. I was incredibly bored the last time I tried it, but I'll force myself to play it if there's a decent shot at some points.
Latin_Trident @ Jul 6th 2009 5:19PM
it sucks that I won't be here friday!
Cesaria (seh-sare-ee-ah) @ Jul 6th 2009 5:20PM
I'll be playing this again now that there are some real prizes. I hope they give a fair chance of being selected.
Markez @ Jul 6th 2009 5:23PM
I've grown a little bored with the Extended Play sessions, but the live hosted ones are a lot more entertaining. Haven't even gotten into the mob yet, but hoping soon.
itsburnsie @ Jul 6th 2009 5:28PM
Except of course for me... because I live in Iowa.
Frakkin' gaming laws.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Jul 6th 2009 5:46PM
yea i live in MD. what the hell is up with that? i never really cared about our gambling laws before (they've been trying to get slots here for years) but now that they affect my gaming, i'll certainly take that into account the next time i vote.
Jester Bee @ Jul 6th 2009 5:51PM
Same here... Curious if there's a way to get around it. Any ideas?
Jack_Jackington @ Jul 6th 2009 7:01PM
I also live in MD. I didn't know ithis affected me. I was planning on playing this with my lil bro this weekend :-(
Saria the Cat @ Jul 6th 2009 5:31PM
I need to get in on this. You'd think that it'd also be a good game to attract casual players. Is that the idea?
Preston @ Jul 6th 2009 5:35PM
It seems extremely casual oriented. It's easy to jump into and as long as they make the mob selection a bit more randomized it's pretty entertaining. Most everybody should be able to answer at least some of the questions. (Certain questions being missed at all had me shaking my head though).
Markez @ Jul 6th 2009 5:36PM
Ben Franklin did not invent lightning. Apparently that was a real brain buster for some people.
Saria the Cat @ Jul 6th 2009 5:47PM
@Markez: Yeah, and Newton totally invented gravity.
GregOfTheDead @ Jul 6th 2009 5:57PM
Screwed by the state of Connecticut once again!
Martin @ Jul 6th 2009 8:09PM
Why does CT have a problem with this? You guys have a crapload of casinos.
todd @ Jul 6th 2009 5:57PM
It's a heck of a lot of fun but never being selected for the mob or one makes it really not worth playing. Think people are downright cheating too, 0 secs on the average to respond to questions with 100% correct... just not possible in my books. Sure I understand that all 94k of the people can't be selected but make the selection random not based on your correct answers and how often you play.
Vidikron @ Jul 6th 2009 6:07PM
I've seen some pretty stupid people selected in the mob and as the one. Just this last Friday there was one a One that used their 3 helps the first three questions and went out the third question (the Trust the Brain help burned them). I've seen examples like this quite a few times. So there appears to be some element of randomness in play otherwise these people would never be selected. I think how well you play and how often just gives you a slightly better shot... more balls in the lottery so to speak.
RedSonRising @ Jul 6th 2009 6:13PM
i want to be excited but i havent been in a live show yet and ive barely participated in the extended sessions. odds of actually being part of the mob or the 1 are slim at best, very hard to be interested.
and im part of that group that doesnt understand how ppl average 0s response times and have right answers constantly. i hesitate to call anyone a cheater but it doesnt feel fair and a gameshow like this needs to have a level playing feild.
Tungsten Plug @ Jul 6th 2009 6:59PM
well I have played the live game maybe once. The only time they ever do it is on a friday or saturday night. if you're anything like me you dont like to be sitting at home on those nights. lets get a live game on a wednesday or something! COME ON!!

Thank your crap government from preventing you Quebecians from partaking in most north american contests.
And to "Alexander", stop calling it the great province of Quebec. It's a hell hole and a blight on the rest of Canada.
PARANOID365 @ Jul 9th 2009 4:28AM
The reason the rest of Canada, and the world, (which includes my very own province), excludes Quebec from everything is because we all agree that Quebec is "THE DOUCHE BAG PROVINCE"!!
(I would of also said it in french, so you could understand it, but I am not very well versed in the fine language of DOUCHE !!)
Michael Paul @ Jul 7th 2009 8:54AM
They claimed that some of the outrageously high scores were bugs, but unless the closer you get to 200 points per answer the higher some secret multiplier is, I don't see how some of those scores are so high.
I have managed to get 200 points on a bunch of answers, but I have yet to be right doing so. That fast, there's no time to have actually read the answer and you'd just have to have been lucky which I wasn't.
And I'm still not sure what to do when the answer has to be B. I've been too early and the answer hasn't registered and I had to hit B again, but it's hard to say if the button can be going down at the same time it appears on the screen and actually count.
So far, I've had to take all my fun out of 'winning' against the folks in my group, and that's not easy when I'm jumping on the wrong answer. I sure hope they have a better way of picking The Mob and The One, because if I just keep being The Crowd it'll be hard to set aside time for this. 11PM on a work night is NOT such a great deal, but maybe they'll regionalize it soon...
Smoke_me_a_Kipper @ Jul 8th 2009 10:46AM
I have only gotten 200 on a couple of right questions. Mostly 200 is an indication your WRONG. I can only do it on the "B" button, if the first two answers are incorrect I would spam "B" and hope I was really was right. The 200 answers are not the reason for the high scores. It's consistently answering fast & correctly, no skips and answering 180+ for each question. Particularly the questions that 90% get wrong, like the infamous Conan/Letterman question will get you major points in extended play. The other scoring issue is that crowd does not get the point for the last mob elimination if the one loses. The surviving mob does get the points.
TimeWasterXX @ Jul 7th 2009 9:56AM
To bad I'm a child account so I can't win any prizes. =(
Oolon Coluphid @ Jul 7th 2009 3:35PM
They need to have later episodes. I can't play before about 9pm PST
Rocketboy @ Jul 8th 2009 8:49AM
Later? It already runs past midnight for us on the right coast.
hockey_dude_124 @ Jul 18th 2009 4:25AM
