Is the drum kit above (to the right) what Guitar Hero 5 will be shipping with when it hits this September? We're not 100% sure, but a trusted source at our sister site Engadget sent in the blurry shot, leading us to believe it could very well be.
The new set bears a strong resemblance to that other full band music/rhythm game -- hey, there's even a lower bar support where the kick pedal could possibly hook on! Additionally, as Engadget rightly points out, the system controls have been moved in front of the pads. The back of the set allegedly features two kick pedal jacks and a "mysterious black mini jack" as well. We've asked for comment from Activision for confirmation of the set and have yet to hear back.

So..... Activision copies Harmonix yet again? That's a shocker.

Activision? Stealing from Harmonix? That's impossible!

Because people don't want to admit that he's actually correct. Harmonix can do no wrong, you know. (Even though people bitch about the DLC every single week because their Hannah Montana dreams still haven't been realized.)

In Harmonix's defence, the Japanese have done jack shit in North America (don't know about Europe) to cultivate their rhythm games. There were a few games release but the only major one I know of is Rock Revolution which did badly at retail.
I'm not a fanboy, I think there are things Harmonix could do better in RB2 like being able to change the difficulty of a song after making a custom setlist. right now, i lose the setlist completely, that or try 5 times to beat a song before raging.

I fail to see the big deal. A drum set looks like a drum set. Of course there are going to be a lot of similarities between the two. And the only things that are different between the World Tour drums and the GH 5 drums is the bar for the foot pedal and the cymbals.

But also notice the support legs. Even those look very similar to Rock Band's.
Not only that, but the placement of the controller buttons.
Okay, true talk. It don't think Neversoft is trying to steal Harmonix's thunder (with this drum set, anyway), but whenever they try to be different, it just does not end up working. This is why a lot of the "improvements" of the Guitar Hero franchise (full band, the vocal track differences in GHM, "band moments," character customization, constant DLC/DLC being carried over, and now this drum set) are really just them reverting back to the original Rock Band features. It doesn't take that much brain power to see this...

That's definitely true. But I don't think the same audience of people complaining about GH's lack of Rock Band-esque features are the same as the group wanting uniqueness.
I think that Neversoft/Activision need to take the time to start coming up with some unique features for Guitar Hero that actually makes the consumer want to buy Guitar Hero over competition. The "music studio," party play, and maybe the "touch pad" can be seen as a step in the right direction, but I don't want to shell out $60 for those things alone when I already own Rock Band, if you catch my drift.

Not the first time someone's stolen the idea for a guitar. Gibson made the Les Paul, then Fender was like "hey, good idea" and made the Stratocaster.

More like Fender made the Telecaster, then Gibson was like "good idea" and made the Les Paul, then Fender was like "better idea!" and made the Stratocaster, and then Gibson was like "really better idea!" and made the SG.

Actually... Les Paul made the Les Paul... and Adolph Rickenbacker was actually one of the first to market a solid body electric guitar, before even Fender. Gibson created a guitar mimicking Les's guitar, and presented it to him. He liked it an endorsement deal was done. Also, the SG was designed to be the 'new Les Paul' but Les himself saw it in a window at a store didn't like it, so they called it the SG 'solid guitar' instead, and he ended his endorsement deal.

Which is what I try and tell everybody! I respect Harmonix for what they've done. I don't respect Activision for what they've capatalized on.

....er....I think you mean Konami and their "mania" games were the innovators.

Agreed, Frequency and Amplitude were amazing games, and Rock Band is their modern descendent (and thus every other modern music game is by extension a copy). They weren't the first, but they really jumpstarted the genre.

Yeah, I'm sure Konami never intended their games to be all that popular. They just wanted to foresee companies stealing their ideas in a future time.
All those big ass arcade games were just props to prepare us for the coming of shitty wireless guitars that get $5 at Gamestop.

I have a feeling this is fake and that the supposed GH5 were more of a prototype of the Rock Band drums. But, I'm a girl, so I'm just feely sometimes.

Looks like someone just traced a blurry circle around the cymbals. I think they actually have the same shape as the GHWT cymbals. Take a closer look at that picture.
