Sesame Street gives gaming the thumbs up
Thanks to the recent shift in video games towards introducing more movement in control, our favorite pastime has just gotten the thumbs up from the Joan Ganz Clooney Center at Sesame Workshop, which wrote, "Well-designed digital games show significant potential to promote children's growth and healthy development. They can foster skills and knowledge that help children with academic learning, as well as habits which contribute to better health."We're happy that The House That Big Bird Built approves. In turn, we'd like to remind everyone that reading is totally horse apples and completely F.P.O. (that's "For Poindexters Only"). So there.

Tries to think of funny Sesame Street joke...fails.
So when can we expect Elmo's Tap Dancing for Wii? With 80 dollar Tap Shoez?
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 6th 2009 3:26PM
As long as they keep that shit on the Wii where it belongs....
Markez @ Jul 6th 2009 3:32PM
I think 'where this stuff belongs' typically ends up being the console with the largest user base, which is why there was so much of 'this stuff' on the PS2 last generation.
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 6th 2009 3:42PM
Exactly. 'Cept last generation I wasn't bettin' on the lead pony. (no pun intended.) And I'm not this generation either. Seems to me they'll just throw together some sort of cheap thrills game for the kiddies that has you tickling Elmo with the Wiimote. Ha! Yeah, I went there.

Somehow I don't think "well-designed digital games" = shovelware. It'd be great if they made actual good educational games for all platforms.

How smart are they if they just figured out games help promote critical thinking skills?
Cody @ Jul 6th 2009 3:40PM

Wow, two fails in one comment - you think the Wii is the best gaming console, and you're also a spammer. Bonus for the annoying "...lol" at the end of your comment.
Cody @ Jul 6th 2009 3:49PM
As spammish as this spammer may be, Wii is the best gaming console.
Pretty much saved the gaming industry along side the DS.
SilverFireshot @ Jul 6th 2009 4:04PM

What? The article is barely bigger than the picture embedded in it. If reading is such a huge deal for you, just stick to YouTube and let the rest of us quasi-adults get back to reading our 75-word articles in less than a minute.

How many times must I slap you before you behave?
Bradwart @ Jul 6th 2009 5:31PM
Yes, Cody. With sales of 52 million 'mainstream' gaming consoles this gen, the industry needed to be 'saved' all right...
Teh Lup @ Jul 6th 2009 8:15PM
I seriously still have Oscar's Trash Race for the 2600....
biloxiblue @ Jul 7th 2009 10:42AM
Is "mainstream" referring to Wii or the other ones? I really do love Wii, but I just play for fun. My youngest son refers to himself as a gamer and so he chuckles when I talk about Wii, but he bought it for me, God love 'em.
