Why Two Worlds II isn't Two Worlds: The Temptation

The short version, from publisher Zuxxez PR director Joerg Schindler: "The Temptation had been canceled due to technical outdating [sic]. We use a complete new engine for Two Worlds II."
Dirk Hassinger, who runs U.S. publisher TopWare, gave the full story:
"After Two Worlds the dev team started an add on," Hassinger wrote. "Later this was too huge and became a full product (Two Worlds: The Temptation), but in the last year as the development went forward, we found the technology outdated and started a new engine generation from the scratch. Now it is a real Two Worlds II with state-of-the-art technology. Of course some ideas and story partly developed in the last couple of years, which could have been a part of Two Worlds: The Temptation (PC/360) and Revelation (PS3), will be used for 2WII, but it is for sure a different title and not a simple rename."
Well, there you have it. Is it weird we want to play it even more now?

So they cancelled one product to make way for another... right?
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 6th 2009 10:52AM
Looks more like Two (Human) Worlds II. Amirite?
The_Punisher @ Jul 6th 2009 11:29AM
Great, they're combining two crappy games to make....well, something that still sucks.
Access Granted @ Jul 6th 2009 10:56AM
Hope it doesn't suck like the first one! well it wasn't that bad but still... oh who am I kidding it was horrid.
Cj @ Jul 6th 2009 10:58AM
I played 5 minutes. Declared it worst 360 ever. How could a developer send out that POS?
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 6th 2009 10:59AM
I bought the first one for $10. Biggest waste of $10 ever. I think the framerate was somewhere in the neighborhood of 10fps? Just terrible.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 6th 2009 11:05AM
Yeah when I rented it and tried playing it, the first 10 minutes I shut it off and was ready to return it. The next day I actually started playing it though, and it was still bad but it maintained a certain level of bad the whole way through. It wasn't like Too Human or Enchanted Arms, where they were horrible from the beginning and actually kept getting worse as you got further in.
Duke @ Jul 6th 2009 11:50AM
It wasn't very good but I don't think it was as bad as people around here call it. It gave some mindless amusement and laughable voice work and more or less was just a mediocre and uninspiring title. I have played some far worse titles this generation.
Noxat @ Jul 6th 2009 11:57AM
A friend of mine absolutely loved this game. I must admit the cheesy voice work was hilariously amusing and the gameplay mechanics were passable, but the choppy framerate quite literally gave me a headache when I tried to play.
Arnie @ Jul 6th 2009 10:56AM
Looks decent. Will play a good RPG anytime. Just hope they have a much more robust testing in place this time.

"Is it weird we want to play it even more now?"
Yes, yes it is. The first game was absolute garbage. It tried to be Oblivion but online, and it wasn't even close to that. I disliked oblivion, but the difference was clear cut. You couldn't play Two worlds as much as you could watch your character and your friends jump around like nightcrawler on acid. I would say they might have learned their lesson, but the fact that they're making a sequel shows that they haven't.
MystileArmor @ Jul 6th 2009 11:36AM
You kind of lost credibility when you said you disliked Oblivion.
It's like asking a fan of The Petshop Boys for his/her opinion on the last Slayer album.
Duke @ Jul 6th 2009 11:47AM
So wait, did you like the last Slayer album or not then?
MystileArmor @ Jul 6th 2009 12:07PM
Don't know, but the Petshop boys are the bees knees!
Phil @ Jul 6th 2009 11:03AM
I played the first one on the PC. I don't think it was so bad. I did get the ultimate collection or whatever they called it and it looked like most of the bugs had been squashed by then.
It was no Oblivion, but it was an enjoyable 20-30 hours.
Frenzy @ Jul 6th 2009 12:56PM
@Phil: Dude, is that a Thexder avatar?? If it is...holy crap that's awesome!
JayVe @ Jul 6th 2009 3:46PM
Agreed! Kick ass avatar!
Phil @ Jul 6th 2009 6:35PM
Indeed it is Thexder. Good eye. Gamearts and Sierra brought me no end of frustration with that game.
JW @ Jul 6th 2009 11:30AM
I put in over 300 hours into TW. For me, the framerate was never an issue. I honestly think that some boxes ran it better than others which is why you'll see two completely separate takes on the game. The gameplay is all I cared about and it was one of the best to come along for the 360 in quite a while, at the time.
Now, if they polish up the voice acting and the online co-op, they'll have something worthwhile for the RPG people out there like me.
MisterSquared @ Jul 6th 2009 11:47AM
I just really hate their logo for the game. It pisses me off every time I look at it.
Blah @ Jul 6th 2009 1:59PM
ya me too, I just can't stand that font and the weird frame they stuck it in
RockinHerda @ Jul 6th 2009 11:58AM
the game wasnt that bad. well, it was, but it was still a lot of fun. i am still playing it to this day. if you actually look past its many flaws, there really is a nice gem there. trust me on that
whylekat @ Jul 6th 2009 12:29PM
Wasn't two worlds one of the worst 360 titles ever created? Yes, yes it was.. How the hell did it warrent a sequel??? Seriously WTF!
Sweetjohnnycage @ Jul 6th 2009 12:45PM
I'm sorry but ANY game with something called The Taint needs to be burned. Everything about the first game was horrifyingly terrible. Voice acting was an abomination, grapics were terrible, and it had to load during gameplay. I haven't seen a disc icon in the corner of a game since early PS2. I think the developers were living under a rock using technology from 10 years ago to make the original Two Worlds. And it wasn't just 360, it sucked just as bad on PC. I doubt this one will be any better. Shit, Gamestop let me return the game even after it was opened. They just told me to write "broken" on the reciept and gave me a full refund.
ChomskyKnows @ Jul 6th 2009 1:22PM
worst RPG ever...
izikavazo @ Jul 6th 2009 2:08PM
If there was ever a game that should really avoid name recognition it's Two Worlds. I don't think any of the people who bought Two Worlds are eagerly awaiting a new game.
Misfit Toy @ Jul 6th 2009 2:15PM
I remember being so psyched for this game...and then it came out.
One thing this game and the next Oblivion really need to update is inventory management. Despite what you think developers...your inventory management is NOT FUN!
Justin @ Jul 6th 2009 2:18PM
I hated the first game after playing fir 5 mins, disliked it after 1/2 an hour and by the time I had played it for a couple of hours I really liked it. Once I got to level 45 it was far far too easy and so got a bit boring.
For a dev's first attempt at such an ambitious games it was not that bad. The world was large and varied, there were some interesting stories and quests, the item and magic stacking was good.
I love RPG's and enjoyed the first, so I be getting the sequel.
Max @ Jul 6th 2009 3:22PM
If they fix the framerate, graphics, and voice acting, then i'll think about getting it. It will by no means be a day-one purchase like elder scrolls 5, but it is however one peg above fable, which i wouldn't buy if it was fable 3 was on ps3 and got a 100 average on metacritic
david.antonacci @ Jul 6th 2009 11:26PM
They killed one game to make a new engine and gave the game a new name. Sounds like a repeat of the first craptacular game that got delayed and delayed and delayed because the developers sucked and couldn't crunch out a decent game in a reasonable amount of time. So for all the time the first 2 worlds took, it sucked like a rushed game.
Clearly the dev team isn't any better this time around.
the.doctor248 @ Jul 7th 2009 4:15AM
Not to be facetious, but Two Whirled was terrible , so why do people care at all about the sequel?
